Reglisse Noire

Reglisse Noire is a joy to wear. Why? Because it smells like sprinkles. That sweet licorice aroma that you get when you pop open the lid of a little container of sprinkles is the overall impression I get from this scent. More specifically, it smells like anijshagel, an anise flavoured sprinkle spread that you put on toast - a Dutch confection. Reglisse Noire obviously does have a blend of other ingredients, including a hint of fresh wild mint which does stave off any sugariness and plays on the more fennel-fresh aspects of the licorice/anise family. However they're subtle, adding dimension, without distracting much from the star of the composition - licorice. It wears as a sweet woodsy blend however, rather than necessarily a gourmand, again, I think, another testament to how well this scent has been put together. It's also so wearable and versatile, I can't see being unhappy with it at any time of year. If you think you don't like licorice, try this one. It will change your mind. As an aside, as others have remarked, I too wish that the bottles were slightly more practical. Splash and pump (I have the splash myself) are not as satisfying or easy to use as a proper atomiser would be. But the packaging is so darn nice that you don't want to decant into another bottle or sprayer. Providing the option of a screw top atomiser like the Lutens scents would be welcome.

A fragrance of great warmth and sensuality. Without being overly sweet, without being either overly resinous, a continuous sparkle of sweetness lives all the time on my skin, and the scent of licorice is gradually getting a sense of sensuality and purity, sympathy and kindness, that despite of being an eau de toilette, the notes are intense in the purity of this composition. Right now, I associate Noire Eau de Réglisse with a night of love, candlelights, silence, the poem, and petting. This is a scent that when it enters through the nose it makes its way into an inner world, expressing subtility and charm. It is quite possible that this scent can also be enjoyed by some men, as fresh and its sensual composition can be adapted to male tastes. In my case, being a woman, I am very consistent with this aroma. It's dreamy, relaxing and vibrant at the same time.

I love black licorice with a passion. And that is what this opens with- so satisfying! But what it evolves into is black licorice slinking into the background and only supporting the natural herbal sweetness without being too obvious. It is still unique and intoxicating to me at this point, and people who hate licorice find it nice, so it's one of my favorites to wear out. I get to bliss out on the black licorice phase in the car on the way to wherever I am going (I live an hour from everywhere), and by the time I get there no one will be offended. 100% second the first line from rschmidt65: "This is a lovely, natural smelling and easy to wear fragrance. It opens with a true to life black licorice and pretty quickly becomes grassy and herbal. Over time the vanilla and sweetness comes out but the herbal aspects keep it from going gourmand."

I'm very happy to have it, overfilled with breathtaking emotions) Réglisse noir is so appealing, fabulous, harmonious and delicious. I fell in love with licorice after visiting the museum of sweets, candies Haribo in Uzes, France. Rotella smells like this perfume, amazing!) I suppose that the beauty of licorice is well underlined by fusion of such notes like star anise, cocoa, mint and patchouli. Musk gives sensuality to this fragrance. REGLISSE NOIR is WORTHY your attention if you love licorice, even if you don't love licorice, in this perfume you will like it. MERCI! GIVEAWAY WINNER

Have had this gem for about a year and a half now and each time I wear it I find nose irresistibly drawn to it. I really do LOVE this fragrance. It's a very lovely warm comforting fragrance. My only complaint is the old fashioned bulb atomizer, which at first was charming, but I have gone through 2 of these atomizers and am now only able to apply as a splash. The manufacturer never answered my emails in an effort to try and get a regular atomizer...and any substitute atomizer I've tried to replace it with won't work. I think the fragrance might be too heavy/oily to work with an atomizer? Other than the atomizer issue, the fragrance itself is a definitely a treasure. sillage: 6/10 longevity: 7/10

179 I love this, but it had to grow on me because of the light watery note, with mint and licorice, which these notes create. It’s not aquatic, but cool, well blended, not too much of anything, a touch of vanilla and cocoa for sweetness, a touch of pepperiness, and a lovely star anise to create a mentholated light licorice. I have nothing else like it, though I’ve had more straightforward anise scents. This one is refined, classy. 9/10-great composition and soft-moderate lasting.

I do not have a bottle of this lovely scent. I might have to get a bottle of this soon! I only have a sample. The initial scent I detect is a very strong licorice/floral, not horrible but not great. I'm not a fan of the combo. However, after 5 minutes, the vanilla comes through and the floral subsides leaving licorice-vanilla goodness. On me it pretty much stays the same. I really like it. This is such a sophisticated vanilla perfume. Love it!

I'm not a fan of licorice at all but my god this is beautiful. The cocoa really tones things down & adds such a nice touch to the composition. Now add in the musk, patchouli, vanilla and vetiver.... HEAVEN! Projection is a good 4 feet & my only complaint is the longevity is a bit weak... still love it & will be buying a full bottle.

I received my bottle tonight, the fragrance is awesome ;o) I expected a sweet-spicy fragrance, but it's not sweet, it is somehow cold-spicy, anisy-peppery with smooth woody vanilla, radiant, light and black - like fresh night air. My respect to the perfumer ;o)) I applied it 30 min ago, still exploring.

I love anise, so what negatives would this one have for me?! I grow the plant, pick out black jellybeans to eat, and cook with star anise. Lol. This fragrance is a treat! It is not so strong that it will put off those around you. It is quite lovely.

This perfume is so beautiful and sweet. I actually discovered it because I smelled it on a stranger and had to ask them what they were wearing. Have been a fan of 1000 Flowers ever since!

Reglisse noire is a well blended natural scent that simply gives joy.... More aniseed/mint than liquorice....much more than aniseed/mint. A little bottle of Grasse magic, thank you!

FANTASTIC! This perfume is a must buy for any fan of black licorice. I adore it.

It takes an exceptional (and daring) perfumer to blend licorice and vetiver so boldly and exquisitely. Most perfumes that contain a licorice note use it to enhance other ingredients or to provide a slightly gourmand top note. But here, the licorice and star anise are the stars of the show! To my nose, Reglisse Noir is predominately botanical (except for the "ozone" and musk notes perhaps?). The perfumer, Jessica, works in Grasse -- the center of natural fragrance material production -- and this fact only adds to the richness and rarity of this scent. Before trying Reglisse Noir, I was very hesitant about wearing a scent that focused on licorice (I actually despise the taste of licorice candy), but the melding of licorice with musk, patchouli, and vetiver creates a spicy, earthy contrast that brings the fragrance out of the realm of "candy shop" and into the world of woods, grass, and fauna. Overall, RN is warm and distinctive. This fragrance would be equally compelling on men and women. I personally love wearing it in the fall, when the weather begins turning cool, and Halloween is just around the corner (licorice always makes me think of Halloween). Because it is largely botanical, the sillage and longevity cannot be expected to compete with synthetic perfumes. Having said that, because Jessica used such tenacious base notes, expect it to stick around longer than many other botanical fragrances out there (updated note: I dabbed some on over 6 hours ago, and it is still quite noticeable!).

This is beautiful licorice fragrance. My favorite so far, but I will still continue the search before commiting to a full bottle, and I will explain why. Reglisse noire is well rounded, smooth and inoffensive, silky smooth interpretation of licorice that smells natural and simple. It is well balanced that I don't smell much else besides licorice and anise, but in nature, with gentle herbal (coming from mint, ginger and patchouli), "minty" undertone. It's linear (which is fine), and holds on skin decent amount of time. If you are looking for a simple, slightly sweet and tiny bit herbal (whimsical) licorice, try this one, it's a beauty. However I like my perfumes to have a bit of a twist, at least one weird note or something "naughty", which makes fragrance interesting in a long run. That's the only thing missing here, but this velvety, relaxed take can be just as nice.

Don’t be fooled by this fragrance house name of 1000 flowers, Reglisse Noire starts out very masculine. In fact, I almost didn’t bother to sample because I thought it would be too floral, which it isn’t. The opening licorice note fades to what I call “cold” mint, which seems washed out, like an old mint found in a car seat or something. Usually, I love the smell of lemon and licorice, and I certainly love the smell of mints, but Reglisse Noire’s licorice fades too fast, and the weak mint smells plastic. The end result is nondescript and mediocre. I will pass.

Such a hauntingly beautiful, delicate, mysterious scent. It simply smells like an old abandoned dusty house with a pair of ghosts throwing licorice into their little ghosty holes. Love it. And let me say the original presentation was just gorgeous. Didn't even matter much when the sprayer of my bottle leaked like hell.

A warm, mature-but-not-stuffy, pleasant scent; it was my go-to for late summer and early fall this year. On me the licorice/anise and mint open, then it dries down to a spicy vanilla base. Nonthreatening but not boring. Great for meeting your SO’s parents.

really this is about the anise not the licorice; think of sniffing an Italian pizzelle; not really sweet but goes well with tea; a little white musk woven in and none of the notes prominent; nice but not stunning

I really enjoyed this anise/licorice scent but it’s an EDT, and I got maybe an hour tops. Loved the scent while it lasted—fresh and minty.

On me, nice, warm opening, spectacular 2nd phase of sweet anise, but sadly it morphed into a white vanilla. Long lasting.

Reglisse noire opens with a peppery note that quickly develops to a sweet liquorice that reminds me of Pontefract cakes. There are underlying mossing green notes from the Vetiver that contrast again the more spicy notes of Ginger and Allspice. After an 30-45 mins on the skin I am left with a gentle black liquorice which is the predominant sillage of this quite linear perfume. Would I recommend it to others, well if you're looking for an inoffensive unisex perfume that reminds you of liquorice confection then yes. Personally, I like a little more complexing and more longevity but this is EDT so we can't expect too much.

A brisk opening due to mint and pepper. The anise is strong but dry, I would not describe this as candy-like. It reminded me of shopping in Natural Grocers, tbh.

This starts off with a somewhat spicy and brisk opening of pepper and minty freshness. The licorice soon takes over accompanied with the star anise and ginger. The cocoa gets lost along the way and patchouli starts coming forward with vanilla. The middle notes begin to get tangled with the top notes, and when the base notes get into the mix it just becomes a mess. On my skin it becomes a melding of the main surviving notes of mint, vanilla, patchouli and licorice and it smells slightly earthy and medicinal. In the end it smells like a fragrance hospital sanitizer. The notes seem to oppose each other rather than work together. Hard Pass

Yuck.. The opening smells like I just walked into a Moroccan butcher shop. It's a mixture of herbs, spices and refrigerated meat.

This is a lovely, natural smelling and easy to wear fragrance. It opens with a true to life black licorice and pretty quickly becomes grassy and herbal. Over time the vanilla and sweetness comes out but the herbal aspects keep it from going gourmand. To make a comparison, I would describe it as Lolita Lempicka done by Annick Goutal. Really, really nice work. I will be buying samples of the rest of the line when I get my bottle. Edit: I realized after writing this that if I’m going to describe it as “Lolita Lempicka by Annick Goutal,” I should probably compare it to the Goutal that’s the most like LL, Mandragore. It’s been a few years but I would say the main chord of Reglisse is pretty similar to Mandragore, a light, natural herbal smell with prominent anise. Mandragore is pretty linear so imagine it with a huge black licorice top and a minty vanilla dry down and you’ll be pretty close.

Just got my FB, so let me tell you about it. First-the packaging. This beautiful bottle, with it's vintage style atomizer, comes to you in a beautiful box crafted of Canadian cedarwood. It's painted by hand and smells wonderful!It has a batch number and a certification from 1000 Flowers stating it has been made of the finest raw materials and formulated by hand. Now, on to the wonderful juice inside...first spray is a blast of black licorice. NOT a nasty black jelly bean scent, but the scent of dark smooth rich black licorice found only in the finest gourmet candy shop. On me, this is the scent that lasts. You do get a touch of mint, and the warmth of cocoa and patchouli. But licorice is the star of the show! A most unique and wonderful scent!!

Few perfumes touch the exquisite magic of this composition. Simplicity and understatement are not quite the hallmark of the otherwise flamboyant Gourmand family. But Reglisse is a shy Gourmand. If you want to smell good, feel great and stand out at the same time while not coming across strongly, this one's for you. It begins with a light whiff of Shiso moving ever so subtly over to the spices and then a wonderful sinful dry-down of ever so yummy licorice candy laced intricately with Vanilla and Chocolate (not the cloyingly sweet chocolate - nothing in this perfume is too sweet). I am constantly smelling it as I write :)

Juhu i finaly got my bottle off Reglise Noir in the mail today . Im so greatfull to fragrantica and Jessica for giving me the chance to try this perfume , I am one off the winners in the give away.. very pleased i am trying it one right now. it is Unik and a bit herbal on my skin.. a bit darker and less sweet then i imagined. not shure it is the right thing for my skin .. but will explore and try some more. thanks so so much

"Hmmm..im about to catch a plane, what should i wear?" 1000 Flowers. Yeah, it's that delightful. This doesn't smell like 1000 flowers more like 9 Chinese Star Anises. The licorice isn't as dominate as you might think. Mint and patchouli are the unsung hereos here. This is a spice factory but in a mellow spring time way. An easy choice as a signature scent for those that are fans of oriental vanillas.

I just receive my present from 1000flowers and fragrantica! This is a fantastic perfume!!!! Spicy and elegant-classy! Love the bottle and the white pepper top note...! The packaging also is very beautiful like an old fashioned cigarette box! 1000 bravo to 1000flowers from me!

A transparent woody composition with a moderately sweet accord of anise and licorice and an overall fresh, sort of minty vibe. Nice but not my type. Fans of Lolita Lempicka original EDP should take note. Rating: 6.5/10

completely put off by the licorice smell. I can't wear it in any capacity. Attempted to a few times but I gagged at the smell. be warned!

I love this scent for winter and fall. I have had 2 bottles of this and adore it. It reminds me of an adult version of Good and Plenty.
