Rule of 72

I received this as an outlier in five samples, where at least two were of more interest to me. However, on first spray I was taken by how beautifully blended the woody notes are. It contains many of my staple notes; oud, saffron, patchouli & leather yet smells nothing like anything else I have with combinations of those. I would say that this fragrance doesn't move much as it dries down, retaining that warm, smooth elegance that envelops you like a hug when you first spray it. The Guaiac wood here, to me, sits atop everything else, casting a vanilla-y blanket over everything, yet not smothering. It has been the only fragrance that I have been asked what it is recently, both for it's pleasantness and it's unusualness. I am looking forward to the autumnal weather kicking in when I feel this will come into its own.

The Rule Of 72 from 27 87 by Gaël Montero is an absolute power move. There is a bright spicy opening which leads directly into this grounded floral atmosphere that is slightly sweetened by Montero choice addition of Thai Oud. This evolves rather quickly from the spiciness and floral aspects of the opening to these dark facets of smoke and leather in the dry down which make this a very masculine fragrance in my opinion. This fragrance is captivating and at the same time polarizing due to its wild nature. Gaël Montero is one to keep your eyes on because his trajectory is remarkable.

I’ve read lots of reviews here and no one is mentioning the smell of incense all over this is dark mature and classy ... longevity if you apply on a night time should keep the person next to you busy and you will have a little hint in the morning just to remind you of the night before

Very similar to Interlude by Amouage. In spite of it is a smell I really like, it is hard to see me wearing it. I think it is a great scent, but does not suit my style for its complexity. I will keep the sample for revisiting when I want to smell something opulent.

I watched a YouTube review and decided to purchase a small bottle from their website. On my skin I'm really getting the Oud and some Vetiver. It's definitely a fragrance for the Autumn and Winter as that's when it will carry the day and you will appreciate the notes more. I wouldn't say it's unique as it does remind me a little of Oud For Greatness however, the Oud isn't as strong and it is more wearable which is why I'd say it brings more to mind Haltane. Overall it's a lovely fragrance to wear in the colder months IMO. I'd give it an 8/10

Very unusual woody scent with lots of green vegetable type of freshness. I feel fennel and sometimes aromatic and kinda pickled (like a dill and vinegar??)). Very strange, but I don’t dislike it. It also has quite a strong smoky facet, which I like a lot. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Not exactly a brand that goes out of their way to make samples readily available, plus there's been some YouTuber hyperbolizing, so I get the vibe that 27 87 wants you to blind buy their products. Don't do that. This is good, but to me the pricing is at odds with what you're getting. It's definitely potent enough and sticks around for long enough, but after a promising opening, the scent goes a little weird on me. There's a savory aspect underneath everything that I'm not overly fond of, and it leans just a bit bitter and burnt on me in a way that I don't really care for. I think this is probably a skin chemistry thing, so I'd encourage anyone interested to try it and see if it sits better on them. Just don't go all in on a bottle until you do that. It didn't take long at all for me to discern that I did indeed like this but that it just wasn't for me personally, especially at its current price point.

Bold, fresh-spicy leather and barnyardy oud. I call scents like this "testosterone bombs". I don’t actually like tying fragrance to gender, but it describes the vibe perfectly for me. With earthy, herbaceous vetiver, patchouli, and plenty of dark woods alongside, it’s a very assertive composition. Still, for everyday wear, it’s simply too much. Expensive leather jacket closed in a bottle. I feel like it manly. Rich, sweet and earthy at the same time-leather. This should be on every leatherhead 'to-sample' list.

This is a very masculine oud and leather scent. Unfortunately I don’t like this on my skin, nor on my partner’s skin.

Bitter leather with oud and a hint of cardamom. There are many perfumes like this. To me, it smells exactly like Ombré Leather by Tom Ford

In my opinion, the opening smells like a very slighly sweeter JPG le male.

Absolutely nothing about this has feminine traits. Smells like paint and industrial glue. Let me scrub this off real fast

Very heavy on the woods, leather and vetiver. Smells rather resinous to me. Not feminine at all. Very strong. Try first.
