Up The Apples & Pears

Took me a good while to come around on this as it genuinely was not what I expected. That isn't to say it was a bad surprise, it was quite refreshing. In not so many words, I was purely taken aback. Now, as 2018 has come to refreshing start, I've never felt more clear headed. This was my third scent for the year and I've nevet felt more comforted. As someone who enjoys whiskey, this IS lovely. The apples and pears are definitely noticeable, but they barely take the centre stage for me. They're stewed, sitting on the back burner as I take a swig of an uncomplicated, throat burning whiskey. Gin I wouldn't have picked up if it wasn't listed, and woods seem to come from perhaps a SSOTPE base? Some vanillin, ambroxan and iso e? Could be wrong there, I have no idea if I'm honest. What I do have an idea of is how good this scent is. Going on the must buy. Reminds me a little of Eau My Soul. Perhaps there was the same base? Unless a new one was formulated for EMS.

So I'd not worn this since 2018 until yesterday when I chose to finally use the rest of my sample. You can't get this anywhere in Australia and it's so irritating. This thing is the bomb! It smells like a corner pub but isn't entirely fruity to me. On me it's mainly all about bread, beer, whiskey, and what the brand seems to describe as "white woods". It's still an acquired taste type of fragrance to me, but when you want to smell like a dirty pub... this gives that, and then some. Trust me, that is totally a mood that I've had from time to time. There's honestly nothing like it! As I said four years ago, the base of this and EMS do seem to be similar.

Unmistakeable smell of apples and pears but not overly sweet. These are fresh fruits with their accompanying tartness. I feel like Ive just picked one and sunk my teeth into it . Ive accidently chomped on the core and a pip. I can taste them. Its not quite ripe but a little tart and dry. Is this the affect of the whiskey and hops? I can also detect wood notes in the base. This is no sweet apple pie and so most definitely unisex. It would be lovely to wear on a warm summers evening. Moderate sillage and longevity.

A sweet and generous perfume... a spring air, an afternoon drink a good drink with a good book, the air is fresh. This scent is very beautiful, the strong note of the initial apple is Turns into a soft, lightweight background in the drydown, like a melody that gently whisperes you and keeps company... I love this scent, it's great! Sillage: 7./10 Longevity: 8./10 Scent: 9/10 Overall: 9./10

Reminded me of an Herbal Essence/Garnier shampoo from the 90s. Also oddly enough the bread note comes through on my skin... with apple, whiskey, and woods. If I didn't know the notes I wouldn't be able to decipher it but knowing the notes it's easy to pick out the scents. Interesting and not bad, I'll probably use the sample up but wouldn't purchase a full bottle. Not great sillage or staying power though, definitely a wrist to the nose scent and gone within an hour. It also weirdly reminded me of one of like a mix of kllian brandy on the Rocks and l'heure Verte... kind of? Agreeing it's not a sweet perfume and could be unisex, I think I would actually like this on a guy.

As I've said in some other reviews of 4160 Tuesdays, I find their fragrances very polarising; the ones I like are among my favourites of all time, and the ones I don't like, I really dislike. I thought the notes of Up The Apples And Pears sounded wonderful and fascinating, but I'm afraid it turned out to be the most awful fragrance I have ever tried (maybe it's my skin chemistry, and it would be entirely different on someone else). All I could smell was very bitter and overpowering white musk - it was utterly evil! I did try to persevere, but it hadn't settled or changed at all after two hours, when I did my best to wash it off, which wasn't easy. With a big apology to Sarah and the 4160 team, I really have never smelled anything like Up The Apples And Pears, and never want to again.

It's just a better clone of Kilian's Apple brandy on the rocks...except that fragrance sucks and this is only slightly better because the fruit in this is more noticeable and the dry down of this is better than apple brandy on the rocks. Same style fragrance it's just boozy apple although I don't like either of them really. So if that's your cup of tea, go for this one over apple brandy on the rocks

This is quite interesting. The apples are quite shown and specifically the green apples with hints of pears. Sweetness is presented calmly with traces of boozy notes. Classified as sweet fragrance with a sharp effect somehow.
