4711 Acqua Colonia Myrrh & Kumquat

As ever, these neat little fragrances do pretty much exactly what it says on the box, at least in terms of their composition. Well, I could do with a bit of "harmonising" which is said to be the effect of Myrrh and Kumquat but so far it has failed to materialise those promises. Never mind, I actually bought this (retail, even, with a little black Friday discount) simply because it smells gorgeous and I have no regrets! The ingredients are simple but play together well. Obviously the kumquat makes for a cologne-like opening that would fit all seasons alike, although it is a rather unusual citric note which sets it apart from from those usual EDC topnote suspects such as mandarin, bergamot etc. It may be a little sharp at first, but never sour. There is an undercurrent of dry warm spiciness spreading out like a soft rug... Actually I find this scent wears well in winter, when you crave something a bit lighter or look for a fragrance to layer with heavier ones. I layered this with myrrh heavy Yves Rocher Voile d Ambre and it was gorgeous together. For an EDC concentration the longevity also on clothes is rather astonishing. As can be expected the kumquat gives up sooner than the myrrh, but that isnt a big deal for me. It is a good component if you are looking for a versatile inexpensive layering tool or an allrounder cologne that avoids the stereotypical cologne notes. Most definitely unisex.

Remember those tiny itty bitty little bottles of 4711 you could buy years ago? Well I have a set of the modern original that contains this little one. It’s late spring and coming into summer as I write this review in New Zealand and today I thought I would try this one. It’s fresh, it’s a wee bit fruity and as the fragrances fade away over time I put on a neutral body lotion before applying this after I had shower. I really like it and it’s pretty. It’s not overwhelming but it has a slightly musk note to it that seems to blend well with my body chemistry. Ideal for this time of year and in the summer too. I really like it and are now on the search for a nice bottle of it as I can see myself wearing this through the summer and into autumn. It is light so you can douse yourself as often as you need to without it being overwhelming or too heavy. It’s definitely a daytime fragrance and is perfect for both genders. Unfortunately some of the old favourite brands like this one seem to have shot up in price in New Zealand for some reason so I’m pleased I got my wee set before it went up again.

I just got a set of mini bottles of 4711 colognes. Wish I'd had them sooner, because they are excellent for honing in on notes and deciding if you like them. I suspected I liked myrrh, and this proves to me that I love it! I dig the kumquat as well, it's a softer and rounder citrus scent. This is entirely unisex, which normally turns me off as I prefer very feminine. So I am experimenting with layering using this one. Add a touch of sweet floral and you end up with a very sophisticated scent. I'm extremely pleased with all of these. They are realistic dual-note scents, but they are cologne strength so you need to put quite a bit on and/or reapply. To me, these would fit easily into the Acqua Allegoria family of colognes, moreso than Joe Malone. To me they feel fresher and more realistic somehow. Less synthetic. YMMV.

This is a beautiful Cologne. I spotted it on sale, so though it’s very reasonable at full price, I got a fantastic bargain and I’m extremely pleased with it. I don’t especially enjoy the first contact, which is reminiscent of citrus gin; however that dies back in minutes, to leave a light, warm, mellow dry down. It is as soft and inoffensive as EDC suggests, but as mentioned previously, for its formulation, it lasts an impressively long time on fabric. It’s an unusual scent and, I would imagine it would be an ace for layering, though I haven’t tried. I wear fragrance according to my mood, rather than by season. That being said, this does feel absolutely perfect for our mild Autumn here in the Southern Hemisphere topics.

What a delightful fragrance! This is a beautiful softly blended citrus that doesn't get weird or sour on the skin. It's semi-sweet freshness has an uplifting quality. Don't let the Myrrh note scare you, it's the softest most tender resinous offering and perfectly balances out the scent. It smells chic and effortless, perfect for warm weather & is surprisingly long lasting for an EDC concentration. Totally unisex & appropriate for all ages (even children). This would be a great gift, or for a guest bathroom, room/linen spray, you name it. I tested it before buying, but I believe it is a very safe blind buy if you are interested. A wonderful new addition to my collection & one of my favourite citrus scents of all time.

I love woody resins like myrrh, but this combination sounded so bizarre that I almost did not order it. I am glad I did, though. CK Euphoria was weak and boring in comparison. This is not at all sweet, and is the most truly unisex fragrance that I’ve ever smelled. It smells very fresh with a lovely, long-lasting resinous, woody base. It is my favorite of all the fragrances currently in my possession. This is appropriate for any setting, including the office, as it is neither overpowering nor musky.

Although this is not a realistic Kumquat scent and is quite sweet in the opening, it settles down quickly, so it does not become cloying. Overall, it is a unique and pleasing sweet scent and is not synthetic. It lasts longer than most 4711. I suggest layering with Ambroxan to increase projection, but you need to reapply throughout the day.

Nice and rich. Bordering on gourmand. Not exactly linear. The gradient does shift, but it lands on your nose blended. It undulates between more citric and more resinous, with some sort of fruity cupcake peeking through between the shifts. I really like it a lot and the resins seem to make it last longer than your average 4711.

Imagine Dior Homme original and Sculpture Homme by Nikos had a baby out of wedlock and sent it to an inexpensive German boarding school. Handsome, quiet, well behaving child. Although not looking exactly like any of the parents, definitely resembling both at the same time.

If Dior Homme in the past would have another flanker, this one should be part of it. Not as lipsticky as Dior Homme, maybe Dior Homme Sport's flanker

Gorgeous. The only 4711 that I have tried that has some sort of performance. Luckily it smells great. I would describe it as an ambery citrus.

I love this. Really sophisticated without being intrusive. It is a unisex fragrance, and my hubby likes it as well.

An elegant cologne that is super inexpensive. Smells more expensive than it is.

This is by far the longest lasting fragrance in the whole 4711 line. It isn’t my favorite though. It’s more masculine than unisex, very resinous, the kumquat is obvious at first but it quickly fades away leaving the myrrh as the sole star of the fragrance. As it dries down, the scent becomes mellow and less harsh, more attractive. Again, I’m surprised and impressed by the longevity of this cologne.

Very pleasant. I was looking for something not overly floral or fruity, and while the kumquat had me nervous, I wanted the myrrh notes. Bought it untested and spritzed some on my pulse points before heading to work. It lasted a decent amount of time - about 4-5 hours. Citrusy in the beginning, resinous in the end. Kept getting little whiffs of it every time I moved.

Bought this during a clearance sale with very low expectations, knowing edc won't stay long, but I can actually smell the myrrh. After about 30 minutes, the myrrh drydown becomes much more noticeable, leaving a warm resinous scent that's surprisingly satisfying. For a 170 ml bottle at clearance price, 100/10. Doitsu no kagaku wa sekai ichi!

Short-lived tart citrus and warm resin. Linear but really quite cosy and somehow familiar, like a brown sugar Old-Fashioned with an orange garnish. A 'cheap cologne' worthy of your time and money.

Little weird, but interesting creature. Myrrh and Kumquat is all about, as the name implies, these two ingredients. The kumquat smells more like a sweetened orange juice to me, and when myrrh comes in, it becomes sweetened resinous orange, with some strong floral facets that makes it lean decidedly on the feminine side of things. There is nothing offensive in this scent, but I was hoping for a sharper opening and a darker character. On my skin it performes rather well - I can smell it the day after - and it remains in the air quite a lot, making it an excellent air freshner. Solid for the price, with good quality, but not what I expected and not totally my kind of fragrance. It's only a decent ok as is. Bottle is cute and follows the traditional 4711 style; batch code on my 50ml is 2348, manufactured in Aug 2018.

Another blind buy mistake based on Fragrantica rating reviews (>4.3). There is a slight orange creamsicle vibe in the opening which I like but that fades rather quickly. The drydown is ok, not sweet, something citrusy remains in it. Overall, it reminds me too much of some kind of orange-peel chemical cleaner. I like it in the air but less so on my skin. Maybe I'll use it as a car freshener. The original 4711 is MUCH better.

Bought based on reviews and disappointed. Uh. I expected that expensiveness, I guess because of myrrh, but my nose gets strange fruity fragrance. Gets a little bit better after time, but it's a no for me.
