4711 Magnolia Eau de Cologne

Waxy Spring Buds to Voluptuous Floral Magnolia Blossoms... There's a slight sting in the opening that other reviewers have also mentioned - that may read as bitter citrus but to me it's a waxy blend of freesia, jasmine & cashmeran. That settles quickly and we're into the beautiful, fluffy magnolia, with a hint of citrus in the background that's softer and sweeter now just accenting the magnolia, with a faint shampoo-soap vibe alongside. This gets better and better as it dries down, as if the waxy spring buds were unfurling into voluminous, voluptuous magnolia blossoms, becoming sweeter in the sunshine. Throughout the drydown, I catch reminders of other magnolia scents, but overall this leans more floral than golden, citrus or fruity. This has average performance for a spring-summer wearing experience with a lovely soft sillage, but could be worn year round as a softer floral - the sillage is EDT level, and the longevity is EDC level as expected but might improve with dark storage. It's a love for me. Enjoy! Update 07/30/24: Sprayed this on this morning for a side-by-side comparison with Mojave Ghost Byredo, because something about this scent reminds me of Mojave Ghost. I don't know what I was thinking, they aren't similar, and Mojave Ghost is woodier from the start while this starts out more floral, but the magnolia is done in a very similar way. Each time I try this I like it more. Update 05/07/25: Sprayed it on this morning, and wow! It's turned into a beautiful, fresh magnolia. The musky, woodiness has retreated and the magnolia has come more forward. After it starts to dry down, I can appreciate the citrus tinge of magnolia, which is still captured here but in a less aggressive way than can sometimes be the case with magnolia perfumes. Amazing. Love it.

I find it a good everyday office scent if you want to smell feminine, but not in a juvenile or overly sweet way. It’s clean, fresh, and flowery. It’s approachable without being overly obvious. Update: I’ve been experimenting with it and I only like it more! I found it to be a perfume that doesn’t perform well too close to the skin or trapped in too many layers of clothes, but it should instead be used in a very airy and light way. If I make a cloud with it and walk past it, or if I put it on my curtains and leave the window open, it is the most amazing smell ever. The fresh, first flowers of spring coming and flying around you. I first thought this would be a nice office scent, but it actually doesn’t perform so well in static environments, it needs to breathe. Now I understand why the bottle is 100 ml and so affordable, it is supposed to be used as a cloud of happiness, freshness and life. It marks really well the wake up phase from a long and dark winter into a beautiful, blooming, but still chilly spring time. I definitely recommend it! When used properly, this is divine

This opens fresh and tart, with a hint of orange sweetness which gets sweeter by the minute, there is also a light and delicate floral touch which also feels a bit soapy. It dries down sweet with a touch of orange and flowers which is nice. I love that there are no sharp or synthetic notes and that the fragrance is very soft and delicate - very feminine and cheerful! Vibe wise it is like waking up in freshly made bed next to an open window were trees are blooming, it is still a bit chilly but the morning sun is warming your cheeks.

It smells like... White silk bed sheets. It's the feeling you get when you wake up in a beautiful spacious bedroom in Paris. And it feels just too good to get up. Your lover is still sleeping beside you, Breathing slowly the air infused with the magnolia tree peeking from the french window. Everything is crisp but warm. Like taking a shower with an expensive soap after lovemaking. And the slow weekends you have with him.

I am honestly surprised at how strong this is, given that it is an EdC. I am mostly smelling magnolia, freesia and cashmeran. For my taste, the cashmeran is a bit too strong, but I guess this is also why sillage and longevity are above average. I suggest that magnolia lovers give this a try because the magnolia note is nicely done and the performance compares to a weaker EdT.

Oh how beautiful: A floral 4711. I love it. The magnolia sits just about right on the other 4711 notes. Some of the bitterness of the original has been toned down, but the DNA of the original is still present, but more of a side kick rather than the main event. I love how well blended this is. So fresh!

4711 Magnolia Eau de Cologne - do not underestimate this fragrance. It is a delicious mixture - a harmony of white flowers, an airy, ethereal, well-composed scent, the scent of a great successful morning.

Too hot in the UK at the moment....the weather that 5711 was made for. Have this one and assorted other floral editions around the house/in the fridge.

It smells like a shower gel, in a good way. It is fresh, floral, feminine and soft. Good for everyday use, inoffensive.

Over a year ago, I bought it blind, and did not blow my socks off, reviewed as 'To me not a magnolia scent, the slightest. It's more about jasmine, a little powdery. It is actually a good scent but perhaps not for those who expect the genuine magnolia scent (fresh, slightly citrusy and delicate).'. Put the scent away and fast forward to today, I sprayed, and it's very different to what I experienced above. It's fresh flowers now, even a bit creamy. It's curious how it changed, was not aware that Western frags may also benefit from maturation? So now it's a very elegant fresh floral and much closer what could be identified as magnolia. Flabbergasted.

Very fresh, soapy floral scent with minimal synthetic notes found in a lot of the newer florals (which are often too sweet also). I have to be in the right mood for this as it can feel too mature/old lady.

After spraying: it really smells like saucer magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana) - cold flowery fragrance. With only the hint of original 4711 EDC. Like a walk on a rainy spring day - you stop under a huge magnolia tree and see plenty of flowers, sitting on branches like white doves. The ground under the tree is all covered with petals. After half an hour: cologney, masculine note gets stronger, I can scent dry, woody, nutty note of powdered oakmoss (dry like hazelnut) and aftershave. It's definitely unisex. I love the first phase.

just terrible Normally I adore magnolia scents, but this is more like a cheap 80’s toilet spray that I can’t remove neither from my wrist or from my memory I thought it has been left in the 80’s well, it’s back for a revival. My husband just came in the room And guess what he said, I smell toilet spray. Well this one is a goner
