Requiem

Trying to get my head around this one. When I can smell it, it’s beautiful - boozy vanilla enveloped by warm, cosy amber. It has a bright, almost citrusy pink pepper opening, which settles after around ten minutes. Gets carnal/ dirty/ animalic as it dries down. My wife thinks it’s very sexy on me and her eyes practically roll back as she puts her nose to my neck. But I swear this has performed differently every time I wear it. First few times the performance was not there at all - could only smell it if I put my nose right up to my skin and then it was gone after 2 or so hours. I wore it the other day and it was beastly. Then today it’s a little more subtle. I wonder if 1) it needs more time to macerate 2) it is sensitive to temperature. Either way, if/ when it gets restocked I will get a 50ml bottle as I don’t have an animalic, sexy amber & vanilla scent in my library and this (when it’s projecting) is an absolute banger. EDIT: performance is constantly strong now. I’s an awesome scent. Kinky Suave. Mozart would’ve dug this ;) To me it smells nothing like Babycat.

ATH is an indie niche house and gets dogged for being similar to other stuff. If he rebranded as a clone house he would be dogged for having terrible clones that smell nothing like the original. He can't win with you guys xD At the end of the day there's a huge bias against his stuff in the community, either from Americans who are pissed off that its difficult to order from an indie UK brand with limited resources (no shit) , or people that just have a problem with his choices on how he presents himself or his sexuality. So many people that say his frags are clones, sound unbelievably stupid to anyone that has put their nose on the two. If this smells almost identical to Babycat, or Addicted to Angels' Share to your nose, then you're genuinely making it up or have a super underdeveloped nose. Be so for real. If you have a problem with people taking a scent profile and doing it their way, then you lowkey shouldn't buy any fragrance made in the last 10 years as everything is a clone by those standards :p

This is really quite nice! Very incensy, resinous kind of vanilla, but also almost citrusy in the opening. Vaguely reminiscent of Xerjoff's Lira, but then it gets....dirty and the incense makes itself known. My gf even picked up on it as a key facet of this fragrance. I just can't seem to decide if I want a full bottle or not, shame it's a limited release though, really don't see why Aaron keeps doing those. Maybe for FOMO or maybe cause its a failed formulation of the Noir pour homme that he wanted to make some money off of? I love the house but the constant releases, re-releases and name changes gets tiring and just makes the house lack class. Wish he would slim down his range of offerings and only release the best of his work, we don't need a + version or extreme of everything!

@gbvfx I got a sample of The Omniscient Mr Thompson the other day and am smelling it side by side with Requiem as I type. Personally, I think that apart from the fact they are vanilla forward scents, they are very far away from being almost identical, though obviously this is just how I perceive the scents and therefore your comparison is equally valid. Mr Thomson smells like Babycat to me. They both have a leather/ suede note that really puts me off (there’s no leather note listed in Mr Thomson but I pick up a leathery, musty, slightly acrid note). I really dislike leather/ suede accords in perfumery so maybe that’s why I’m very sensitive to it.

Requiem is an amazing release, the opening has crazy projection and the longevity is superb. Nice smoky vanilla, opens like a more incensey homme with a little bit of dirtyness, then dries down to a really nice vanilla, if you love homme + babycat type fragrances you will love requiem, one of my favourite fragrances from Aaron, requiem is stunning I honestly don't think it should be a limited release

This will get you compliments. Shame it's already discontinued. I know comparisons are a sensitive subject here, but for those wondering what this smells like: - Almost identical to Penhaligon's The Omniscient Mr Thompson. - Very similar to Givenchy Gentleman Reserve Privee Either way - great smell!

@ChicClique I should say I was going by memory, so if you're smelling side by side I'll take your word. I remember OMT having that initial pepper/sesame blast which is super distinct - this had that same smell

Absolutely beautiful, love ATH fragrances but this one is something special ❤️ Looking forward to discovering the others in the series at the Manchester soon.

Not sure if I go nose-blind to this or what, but I feel like it's a very gentle projector. Not as "in your face" as Aaron's other works. I like the spicyness and animalistic darkness, but I am getting a cumin note that I don't like too much. I also don't pick up much of the vanilla like others are praising here. All in all I'm not quite sure how I feel about this so it needs more testing. Until now it has been alright.

Great release from ATH. Definitely not as dark as I was expecting, although it’s definitely a much darker step from his usual style. Not difficult to pull off either but definitely not a dumb reach as some of his fresher stuff. Requiem has a slight citrus in the opening with the amber almost like the opening to a lot of Versace fragrances that’s fades fairly quick. Scent isn’t completely linear changing as it dries down but it doesn’t stray too far. Becomes a slightly powdery, dirty, vanilla and to me has an a slight menthol minty-ness to it similar to Amouage Enclave (dried down). Overall good blind buy. I’m glad I was able to get it at a good deal before scalpers go nuts.

I cannot find anything special about Requiem no matter how many times I take the bottle in my hands and smell the underside of the cap. It smells generic, and cannot see what is dark about it either. Still, congrats to Aaron for a new series of fragrances.

I’m starting to think Aaron Terence Hughes might be operating more like a clone house. Almost every release feels like his take on another niche or designer scent. This one in particular smells almost identical to YSL Babycat, just with a few subtle twists. Supernova = creed aventus Addicted = Angel Share Hard Candies and sluts = JPG Legend & Guapo= Dior sauvage Icon = Invictus Requiem = YSL babycat

Supernova smells nothing like Aventus (except that they're both citrus and ambroxan forward) and Guapo smells nothing like Sauvage. Maybe you can argue they're in the same category, but they're nowhere near clones... it's like saying a Miata looks like a Mustang because they're both two-door sports cars. Lazy take.
