Rouh Al Aoud

Another winner from Abdul Samad Al Qurashi. Rouh Al Aoud is pretty different from most of the fragrances I've tried from this firm as it's probably one of the *easiest* to like in their range. It's quite a complex and multifaceted blend that, while being supposedly made out of only pure oud oil, it's definitely not. It's a proper composition...and a very good one, I would add. I get four different phases here. It opens with a catchy spicy-oud accord that feels somewhat clean. There's the freshness of the spices (which might include some saffron) and the smooth leathery-woody aroma of oud. The oud here is of the sweeter / softer kind as opposed to the barnyard-y one. Mind me though, sweeter as in slightly fruity. No sugar. The fragrance then slowly starts to morph into a super radiant rosy / waxy / sparkling middle phase that clearly winks at classic / old-fashioned western perfumery. This phase goes on for quite a while until the oud note re-starts to remark its presence giving birth to the classic middle eastern *rose-oud* theme. WOW! This would be already enough to declare Rouh Al Aoud a big winner but it's not over yet... With time, the oud takes over the rest again and, together with smooth musky undertones and spices, opens the door to an endless and superlative woody drydown that's definitely more similar to the opening. What a ride! Now, the nature of Rouh Al Aoud would make of this fragrance one hell of an option for both oud-novices interested in exploring classic arabic oils and oud-aficionados looking for an everyday type of oud without giving up on the complexity of these kind of blends. Versatile, immediately likable, entertaining and even educational but, most of all, very very good. Rating: 7.5-8/10

This Attar is amazing, and the presentation is absolutely out of this world with that black hand cut crystal. The notes on fragrantica is not listed completely. Yes it has Oud but there are other things too, when I smell it the opening is a strong saffron which follows into florals and very faint spices and a hint of rose, the dominant smell is saffron which you will get throughout the life of this attar and in the dry down its where it shines with that beautiful woody oud and mix of rose and saffron. Rouh in Arabic means soul, which translates to the Soul of Oud, and it fits the description perfectly. I wear this when I am by myself doing my work or on my PC and each time I turn my head I get an amazing smell. The longevity on this Attar is more than 12 hours and even more on clothes but it sits close to your skin because that is how Attar is supposed to be, it should be sophisticated and not loud and obnoxious. Although a lot of people say it has been discontinued, but if you are travelling to middle east you might be able to score this bottle.

I applied this in the morning, and it is an excellent light daytime oud scent. No fears wearing this to work. Very people-friendly with beautiful oud notes, but without the usual 2-hr required waiting period before being seen/smelled in public. I put this one on and walk right out. No mystery here, straightforward yet gentle, and not in your face. Nice mid and long drydown on me but still seems to keep changing notes like typical ouds. So it's essentially letting me wear oud without the "mess". This is nothing like ASAQ's pure ouds or even Sadine and Heritage, which are excellent but heavier incense-rose fragrances for nights and for more serious oud lovers. Unlike @Adam's Oud, I thought this would be a great oud for beginners. Very light and with no harshness at all. I wear this one out with my friends without fear. Nice long drydown but still seems to keep changing on me.

Smells like a cleaner, soapier, less savory mushroom. Classy and extremely likeable fresh oud with zero fecal facets. The official ingredients include oud, rosewood, sandalwood, and you can tell that there is an unlisted touch of saffron. If there are florals in here then I can't honestly tell you which ones because it's so well blended. The presentation is like opening a secret treasure. Excellent performance. Overall, great stuff.
