Royal Amber

Since there's no pages for these yet, I'll just leave them here... Amber Jewels Lord, this is so good... for better descriptions than my own, there are some pretty great ones on basenotes from about a decade ago. To me, it’s beautifully marine, animalic, mineralic, raw—but never too much of any. As I found everyone else saying as well, it truly is reminiscent of the smell of the sun-baked sand of a beach, salty ocean spray in the air, and luckily, no seaweed to be found haha, making it smell very pure. It does also conjure images of the deep sea, giant lapping and undulating waves above, the haunting sound of whale cries echoing up from the deep below... I can hear them clearly now... There’s also definitely some citric aspects reminiscent of lemon and bergamot, some spicy facets that might read as saffron, cinnamon and maybe even ginger, and at the same time a deep, dark undercurrent of something leathery, tarry and smoky—which some read as potentially oud, others as castoreum. In any case it’s such an incredibly nuanced and enjoyable blend. As others have noted, after some time a traditional amber accord begins to arise, along with some more woodiness and spiciness as well, but the original “true” amber notes never fully subside. Woowee. This stuff is awesome. Just sniffing the super-saturated applicator from the top of the bottle is amazing. I personally think a scent like this would appeal to most, it’s mesmerizing nature being much more powerful than it’s animalic one. Likely a little easier to wear for men however. To the uninitiated or unrepentantly Western, it might come off as “too Oriental” or “bazaar like,” but to those seeking an amber a little more true to form, it’ll likely be an exploration and adventure not met with regret. Sillage intimate to moderate depending on dosing—longevity incredible on skin and fabric alike. I love the vibe it imbues, debatably even moreso than Reina del Mar which I originally said this about it definitely has a cool Poseidon/Lord of the Sea aura about it. At around $50 for 3g, I consider it really quite the steal. Bravo, good sir, bravo!!! ... Aged Royal Amber As I said in my Amber Jewels review there are some much more enlightening descriptions over on basenotes from about a decade ago, but I’ll try to do this glorious scent a little justice. Mentholic and a bit balmy upon application, but soon opens up like an intensified Amber Jewels—pure sun-baked beach euphoria. Seems to be made a bit more polished—less animalic and spicy, and perhaps with some interesting slight tobacco nuances as I believe was noted by one other. It also seems quite a bit lighter to me—the deep, dark leathery undercurrent of Amber Jewels still present but significantly less influential, for now. Still the same citric and spicy connotations, with the addition of something herbal to my nose, perhaps eucalyptus or camphor. After some time that tarry and mineralic leviathan of ambergris hiding in the base rises again, revealing itself to be even more immense and influential than in that of Amber Jewels, in exchange for some of it’s spiciness. Sillage similarly intimate to moderate, longevity excellent. For $150 or so for 3g, less expensive than the cheapest Sultan Pashas—it remains an excellent deal. Bravo, good sir!!!

BEAUTIFUL! Salty ambergris plus a very faint cinnamon note, etc! Beautiful!

This is especially fresh leather-ambrey, a bit sour at the opening with a dose of raw tobacco and lightly bittersweet floral and fruity saffron. In this you can also perceive Lutens' amber herbalism, myrrh, oud, sandalwood and a bit of the elegant Bel Amber of Jacques Fath. Fairly discreet and easy to wear, I consider it only masculine, close to the skin, with no big evolution and with a final dusty a bit boring compared to the other amber blends of this line. There's more besides ambergris here ,but this note is a slight minority or is not quite "sexy" for my taste. All this concerns the extract parfum spray version. Obviously it is less strong and faster in development but it is not the sillage or the longevity or even less the quality the problem. But the story, the journey and the transport that I miss here. Here I miss the happy ending... I was expecting only Ambergris and little else and this has me a bit 'displaced ... The finish reminds me of the skin of children and that particular smell that you have by opening a bag of chips. I will use it as a neutral veil on summer evenings to remind me of distant sea breezes. Not a second purchase for my curious and inexperienced nose. the 100ml bottle is beautiful but the plexiglass cap leaves something to be desired...

This has to be the most raw smelling fragrance I've ever come across. I've never experienced true ambergris before so this was a new experience for me. I smoke a pipe and usually stick to the vanilla aromatic blends but now and then I'll smoke an english blend. These typically smell spicy, leathery, etc. Upon my first application of this fragrance, I was immediately reminded of opening a new tin of english tobacco. I thought, " this might be a little to exotic for me", so I let my wife and daughter smell it. They both liked it and said that it reminded them of leather. I also get a smoky smell, which again reminds me of the pipe tobacco. I'm still very much on the fence about this one. It's the only fragrance I've ever worn that I felt a little self-contious about, only because it is so "raw" smelling.

Went to their Oxford Street shop. I said to the sales assistant I was looking for a perfume with amber, vanilla and a hint of patchouli and NO oud (can’t stand it). She sprayed on my hand Royal Amber and first thing I smelled was oud, then oud and oud and oud. No amber, no vanilla, no patchouli. When I asked before leaving how much, she responded £145... Awful smell, too middle-eastern oriental.

animalic, raw and potent.. this is amazing when mixing with sweat like when you are at the gym, its mixes with your body's chemistry and lasts very long time. the perfume oil, spray and extrait all are long lasting. I woke up the next day and the smell was still on my skin
