Taif Roses

This is a very potent oil to dab on your wrist, inner elbow, behind the ears, at your neck or at your temples. I am not a floral person, generally appreciating orientals and sweeter perfumes or those that are unique in some way. That's where this one steps up to the bat. Obviously, you must appreciate the taif rose. It is said that this particular fragrance contains the extract of 12,000 taif roses. In other words, you Must Love Taif Roses. The first aroma is of course pure rose, a delicious, pure, rose bush. You are nestled amongst a bed of roses, surrounded by the ethereal, heady bouquet. It's creamy, smooth, perhaps you can even imagine the morning dew in the essences of Taif rose. And then it sweetens slightly, just ever so. The oil stays this way for about an hour. Then the magic begins. Suddenly, I felt as if I could smell the wet earth the roses were planted in, the leaves that had dropped and mixed in with the rich soil, pieces of branches that had fallen to the ground and begun to decompose. This was such a rich, decadent odor yet very real. Nothing seemed synthetic. As I felt I had my hands in this rich soil and was inhaling the richness of it, suddenly, the Taif rose came back to wrap itself around the entire perfume. And that's how it continued to stay for hours. A mixture of reality. This is purity, not to be taken lightly. This is to be appreciated when one has the time or inclination to savor a perfume for what it truly is about. As an aside, I've mixed it with oud and I find it works very well.

I recently visited the ASAQ boutique in Bahrain and picked up a small bottle of Ta'if rose attar. They have various qualities and I went for the second best since the very best is super expensive. The second best is still very expensive. It is a very beautiful rose. Everyone knows what rose smells like, so I will not go into a description, but if I should try to pinpoint this I would say; semi-sweet and waxy. It is long lasting with quite good projection. Unisex as rose is often considered a masculine scent in the Middle East.

My review is for the First Rate 1500. Imo its a beautiful, fatty, mildly minty rose. Very, very fragrant in a good way and aldehydic. As it dries down it gets lighter, softer almost velvety like in texture. In the air it flows like fine silks against a light breeze. God bless Taif, Saudi Arabia and the hands that care for the lands. I'll be getting my hands on the Excellent 3000 version next.

You wish you could somehow bottle the beautiful surprise you found in this secret sunlit corner of the garden. Guess what? Your wish has come true!
