Green Cedar

Out of all the scents I've tried which list cedar (which is fair amount, as I have been searching for a great cedar) this is one of the very few that actually have a prominent and natural cedar. If you have smelled actual cedar, in wood or essential oil form, you will find that same cedar here. It is mixed with cardamom and magnolia, which adds a light touch to what would otherwise just be dry woody cedar. Depending on the day, I notice these notes more or less, but there is always that great cedar which sticks around for the life of the perfume. The biggest gripe I have in mainstream cedar notes is that more often than not, it seems to be a synthetic approximation, which I am guessing is Iso E Super. You will not find that complaint here, just a natural and honest cedar note. This is a perfect summer cedar scent, as it is not heavy in the slightest. The main criticism is I wish it had a bit more projection, and the short lived longevity. It smells good enough that I wish it stuck around for 12+ but it is more like 4 hours at little more than a skin scent. This could be a plus for someone looking for subtlety, with a sensitivity to strong perfumes, or is wearing it for themselves and not to garner compliments or make a loud statement. If you like natural fragrances I would highly recommend getting Abel's discovery set. I find this one mixes pretty well with Red Santal, and also White Vetiver.

I hadn't realized that what I've been looking for all this time was a pure and simple musky cedar, only lightly adorned with the ornamentation of spice and aromatics, giving it flesh and atmosphere. Green Cedar fits the bill, beginning with a freshly cut wood opening accented with cardamom oil. A current of angelica root oil and Ambrettolide (a naturally extracted upcycled isolate) imparts a supple, vegetal muskiness, underlining the woodiness of Green Cedar. The cedar here breathes, dryly exhaling from my skin like the heat from a sauna. The skin scent is so satisfying–⁠I find myself tracing my arm with my nose and taking in the therapeutic sensation of the cedarwood oils used here. After all, this is a 100% natural perfume, and a really good one at that, so much so that one may be convinced that it is mixed media. In fact, a naturally Ambroxan synthesized from clary sage is used here, to great effect, elevating and fixing the other natural materials. I really dig it.

A pillow soft cozy cedar scent with a whispering cardamom. It somehow has a subtle powdery quality. Perhaps it's the twice distilled Texas Cedar. I do recognize the Atlas Cedar as well, it's the backbone of this fragrance. I really dig it. Unfortunately the longevity is way below average (on my skin), say less than 2 hours before it becomes a faint skin scent. That's not acceptable for the price you pay. Apart from that tho, it is a beautiful fragrance. Together with White Vetiver, my favourites of the Abel Odor line. ETA: I’m now on my second bottle. There’s a piercing angelica note that get’s quite outspoken on my skin. It takes away from the wearing experience for me. Having said that, on my wife’s skin this doesn’t happen and I really love it on her. I get more of a soft ambergris note in the air, really nice.

This is an utterly exquisite + natural rendering of cedarwood. 'Green cedar' is beautifully balanced and rounded/creamy with the magnolia. A sumptuous earthy - birchy note initially and velvety drydown that's sexy and alluring. For me it conjours wafts of bark of the most aromatic cedarwood tree, in warm weather. I would have immediately committed to a FB if the sillage + longevity had been a little better. But for now I will just content myself with luxuriating with my 6ml tester + see where it ends.... (Though I have a feeling I may weaken - it's that luscious)

Really lovely if you enjoy wood fragrances: clean and fairly light. I got a generous-sized 6ml mini bottle of Green Cedar free from Abel (presumably as part of the promotion for their repackaged and more concentrated line) and I like it very much. I will probably weaken at some point and get a full size when the mini is used up - they are a bit spendy but 100% natural fragrances do not come cheap. The cumin note that other reviewers mention is fortunately so subdued as to be almost undetectable on my skin, which is a good thing as I really dislike cumin.

An interesting scent. It very much reminds me of Santal 33. Spice and some woods. But this has cardamom and cedar...It's more interesting than Santal 33. Plus, no dill note like with Santal 33. The all natural ingredients tend to leave longevity lacking, and that is what we have here. I have sprayed multiple times, and completely lost the scent at 6 hours. I get maybe 1-2 hours personal area sillage. Nothing revolutionary but fans of Santal 33 should give this a sniff...especially if they want the fragrance to have a bit more personality.

I've never found such a great *true* cedar scent. I had a cedar box as a kid that I put my pokemon cards in (lol) and this smells EXACTLY like it. The cardamom is the second strongest note after the cedar, that and the magnolia lend just the perfect amount of spicy and floral balance so that you don't just literally smell like cedar chips. I don't really think the longevity is that bad, sillage is ok...it is a little pricey for what it is, but if you're looking for a true natural cedar scent, this is the best one I've found.

Probably one of the best renditions of true atlas cedar on the market. Straight up green, aromatic, and light, much like raw atlas cedar oil. One of my favorite ingredients, atlas cedar, rarely gets to shine in perfume as the wood-shavings-scented juniper-family "cedars" from Texas and Virginia usually are desired by the populus, but here Abel pays tribute to the real deal. Fresh, light, and truly the scent of a dry forest, Green Cedar does not dissapoint.

Very pleasant, very natural pine with cardamom and guaiac wood. I don’t get the magnolia here but it’s a nice accord nonetheless. An improvement on the quality and naturalness of Comme Des Garcons woody, minimalist, linear scents. After sampling all of this house’s offerings, there isn’t a bad one in the bunch (although as an Iris lover, Pink Iris was a disappointment, but it’s in no way a bad or foul-smelling perfume). But, ultimately the performance was an issue for me. My husband, compared to me, has a sensitive nose and can smell things long after I think they have completely disappeared. So, to be fair, my requirements and standards for a perfume’s performance are probably higher than average. But, on me, these Abel naturals only last for an hour or 2 with little to no development and I can’t see myself enjoying them by respraying throughout the day. Your mileage will vary of course and if you happen to be the kind of person who slightly dreads spraying perfume on your skin because you find many of them overwhelming and far too potent, Abel might be the house for you. All of the scents are lovely and modern and Tasteful with a capital T, and IMO they are all safe blind buys in terms of pleasant, easy wearability. (Ok, maybe not Cobalt Amber which can divide people on whether or not the amber is too sweet.)

Very lovely tangy-aromatic take on cedar, to my nose EXTREMELY like a softer, more natural-smelling version of Aesop Hwyl. Loved Hwyl and so I also loved this ... for the distressingly brief and quiet time it spent on my skin. Properly wood-resiny and sharp, very much like freshly-sawn real wood - so it definitely lives up to the hype as far as 'fine natural ingredients' go. But performance is almost pathetic on me; a vividly, genuinely gorgeous first burst, with a glorious cloud of cardamom and extra nuances of floral detail, lasts no longer than 15-20 minutes; a more monochrome, toned-down but perceptible cedar aura hangs around for another 3-4h; it doesn't plump up much, even when resprayed, and it's completely Game Over by 6h. The price is high enough for that to be a serious disappointment. Like a bowl of porridge instead of a proper lunch - it might be the eco-friendly, responsible choice but it's just not going to get the job done. Writing this made me go check if cedar is a hardwood or softwood: soft, and that's apt, because this Green Cedar just crunches down into fragile splinters under almost no performance pressure. Big letdown for something so initially seductive.

Very nice blend On me this is a warm scent, a touch heavier on the cumin note than I would typically choose, but it does not overpower, and works with my chemistry to produce one of those “smells like you but better” overtones. The cedar and guiac balance it to keep things fresh and interesting. I alternate between Green Cedar and Grey Labdanum from Abel depending on my mood and environment. I keep coming back to this one on rainy days for comfort. Very rarely with a 100% natural fragrance have I said “wow I smell good!” hours in, but thanks to Abel’s masterful blending, a whole new world of natural perfumery is being opened up to me. Longevity is very decent for a natural. Edit: After about 6 months I came back to this one after finding the last remnants in the bottle sitting in a dresser drawer, and holy moley! This one improves with age! Getting even more of the woodiness coming through, and it seems altogether smoother/creamier as well. Maybe it has mellowed a bit. May need to pick up another bottle soon

I really love this. Green Cedar is a beautiful, truly unisex cedar. Cedar is prominent and realistic, but it's soft and airy. Think fine cedar shavings or a sauna made of cedar wood. The magnolia is more subdued than that note tends to be, but it functions to sweeten and feminize a scent that would otherwise lean masculine. Cardamom adds the right amount of warmth. It's a well-blended and quietly sophisticated fragrance. I get the complaints about longevity, but I've found that this is a trade-off for more natural perfumes. It's a quiet scent, but it has average longevity in my opinion.

As it sounds. Fresh, green and cedary. One of the best realised of Abels range if a little one dimensional (I feel like mixing it with others - maybe their golden neroli or pink iris to make it more interesting). I've not found a problem with longevity. I've recently been trying out a lot of Floris fragrances and compared to some of them most Abel's do well. Certainly lasts quite a few hours on me at least. All in all good, and a boon for those of us who some artifical ingredients affect badly, but not great

I’m convinced that Abel perfumes are fleeting beauties, I got about an hour before this 100% natural scent faded away. Cypriol oil is dominant in the first 20 minutes before turning into a natural cedar perfume. I really enjoyed the time I spent with it, just wish it was longer.

A lovely cedar scent that stays intimate on the skin, instead of overpowering the immediate environment like some woody scents. I don't get the opening notes of cardamom and magnolia, just a rich cedar that reminds me of forests which is surprisingly nice.

A simple and charming cedar scent. Not bad, not awesome. I do have to point out how accurate and natural it feels, I'm just not sure if I want to pay $200 Canadian @50ml to turn myself into a walking tree. Definitely overpriced

Beautiful scent reminiscent of CdG Kyoto...Unfortunately it doesn't last or project very long on my skin or clothes.

Very dry cedarwood, reminded me of comme des garcons hinoki.

I purchased a sample of Abel's Green Cedar after reading many positive reviews. I understand that the entire fragrance line is unisex. When I first sprayed it on I thought, oh no...this is too masculine for me. But after about 5 minutes it died down. Unfortunately, it continued to decrease in sillage. I've applied it 3 times today to try to keep the smell. Every time it's pretty much gone after about 2-3 hours. The website says it concentrated but it doesn't last on my skin. Maybe it's just me?? I have 2 more samples to try. Maybe they'll last longer but I'm not holding out much hope for that.

On initial spray this was giving a strong Aesop vibe - very green, natural, woody and genderless. Whilst it's not listed as a note, my nose detected a cumin-y almost armpit element for a moment. My biggest complaint is that for me the fragrance doesn't last at all - I spray generously all over and it lasts maybe an hour. This might be the worst performing perfume I've ever owned.

I should have read the reviews more closely. On my skin I got an intensely cumin opening that was very off-putting. It mellowed after about an hour to a faint cedar scent, and was completely gone by three hours. Shame as I was most excited about this one, but surprisingly loving their Cobalt Amber (even as a non-amber lover)

Oh not a fan... I got the sample kit and frankly I kinda hated them all... Extremely masculine and loud with a dominant note that never tone down. Too harsh for me and a bit boring Imo but could be ''classic'' I suppose...

Very green. I prefer my cedars more like danse sauvage or january scent project.

There is some armpit-like skankiness of the fragrance, especially in the opening which is a huge turn-off. The worst in the whole collection imo.

I'm loving this natural perfume line so far. It's rare naturals have some oomph to them as far as projection and longevity goes. But the bottom on this lasts for days on clothing...a really great cedar. I'm all about frags being unisex, but this would tend to lean masculine in most people's eyes. Now DARE I SAY...and I'll surely get flack for this...but I was spraying Aventus a week or so before I tried this on a test strip in my office, just to have as a background scent. ...In my opinion, if one is looking for a natural that has an Aventus and/or Molecule01 woodsy vibe, this is IT. Will be on my wish list, among others from this house. Very happy with my samples, some serious talent here.

I really like this house's DNA. Each of their fragrances I've tried so far have shared a heavy dose of clean, musky, linen-like Ambrettolide, which extends throughout the life of the fragrance. The affect of the DNA makes the wear of their fragrances feel effervescent, radiant and translucent in nature, where notes sparkle and pop with a salty crystallized edge. In the case of Green Cedar, Abel's signature DNA is paired with Cedar, and to my nose, a very clear magnolia flower. The composition is uncluttered and minimalistic, with an understated simplicity that feels both natural and timeless.

Goes on like real cedar for sure, but with that cumin edge some cedar has. It’s probably the cardamom and the cedar together. I don't love cumin. Green Cedar stays true to this through dry down. But for cedar fans, it is a true cedar and cedar sawdust fragrance. It has warmth and softness, but it’s still right on the edge of “new Sauna” to me. Would maybe be a good blender.

🪵 Points for name relevance, as this is indeed a VERY green, turbocharged, bitter, earthy cedar of a certain gravitas. I cannot smell magnolia, nor guaiac woods at all. I 100% agree with the pencil shavings previous review. While this is definitely not for me (it literally hurts my feelings sampling it on paper and fabric) I can see the artistry behind it.

Wow this is the most realistic cedar fragrance I’ve ever smelled. Smells exactly like a plank of cedar wood. I had purchased byredo super cedar and it has just a whisper of cedar compared to this. Can see this working well in any kind of weather. As others have mentioned, longevity could be better.

Truly unisex. Love the complexity of this fragrance, it continues to evolve throughout the day and the dry down is the best part in my opinion. Magnolia and cardamon really adds that juicy softnes. Fantastic scent!

On me it's basically straight up pencil shavings. I can't smell any of the cardamom or magnolia. Fortunately I love the scent of pencil shavings so I'll gladly wear it.

Smells like when a man tries to cover up BO with perfume. Bit cuminy, earthy/sourish. Not disgusting but not pleasant on me at least.
