Colonia Ambra

This is a beautiful ambergris-centered fragrance. There are different qualities of ambergris - and different concentrations of tincture - and I wouldn't be surprised if they used real tincture of black ambergris (lower quality), since they specify "ambergris tincture" in the note list. If not, I would guess they at least used the higher-end ambergris-like molecule (IFF's Ambergris T. Olifacc), since the smell here does not look like the cheap and sharp usual ambergris aromachemicals (ambroxan, cetalox or cachalox) you can find in many designer frag (ie. Dior Sauvage) It opens beautifully with the typical citrusy-woody AdP signature blast, and then morphs quickly on a sharp ambergris supported by a hint of rose. The drydown is still ambergris focused, but it gets rounded by a noticeable sandalwood note and a blend of labdanum and vanilla. This one shares strong similarities with Colonia Oud in the drydown, with a fresher profile (ambergris). As for performance, I previously read that some reviewers were disappointed, but it works very well on my skin. Indeed, I get equal performance to Colonia Oud (that unlike other reviewers, is not a beast on my skin): that is a moderate/good projection in the first hour, and then a moderate to low projection in the following 3 to 4 hours, before settling as a skin scent. Like for Colonia Oud, I can still spot Colonia Ambra as a subtle skin scent after 12+ hours. My preference goes to Ambra compared to the Oud, since I think Oud's opening is less interesting. That said, you really have to like ambregris, since Ambra is more linear than Oud (the latter evolves more with time, and the drydown is warmer and more luxurious than the opening). Should you look for something to wear during Fall and Spring days (and possibly Summer evenings) that is more unique and fresh, go for Ambra. Should you like for something to wear during Winter days and Fall/Spring evenings, that is more woody, warm and formal, go for Oud. My preference goes to Colonia Ambra, because of its higher wow factor, and because the Colonia Oud opening is more common (usual designer oud frag "wet woody note" - no real oud in this one). In either case, you can't go wrong, just a matter of preference. Note: ignore the reviews stating that it smells synthetic or has poor performance because: A/ each skin react differently B/ each nose perceives things differently C/ statement like "it's synthetic" makes a sense only for someone who has directly got his nose over a vial of real ambergris tincture (probably very few - if any here). Sample and judge by yourself! (AdP is pretty mainstream now and can be found easily in many dept stores)

The original Acqua di Parma 'Colonia' fragrance featured sparkling citrus notes in the top married with an aromatic herbal accord of lavender, rosemary, and lemon verbena. Floral heart notes of rose and jasmine intermingled with warm sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver and amber in the base. The result was a classic and timeless fragrance which embodied the elegance of the Aqcua di Parma brand. Using the original citrus based 'Colonia' as a launching point, 'Colonia Ambra' takes us on a journey to the warm and musky air of coastal beaches. Here 'Colonia' and the Italian tradition are blended with the deep sensuality of ambergris, an ancient essence evocative of faraway worlds and times. The opening citrus is still present, with zesty orange and bergamot full of life. A heart of cedar wood, rose and patchouli follows, melding gently with the hesperidic top notes. The real centerpiece of this creation is the warm and enveloping base notes as rich ambergris, sandalwood and vanilla combine. Upon application, the wearer is cocooned in a sensual amber and marine accord. It is extremely comforting and exhilarating to wear, yet at the same time sophisticated and well-refined. Taken from an official tester bottle Group: Woody Aromatic Top Notes: Orange, bergamot, petit grain Heart Notes: Rose accord, cypriol, virginia cedarwood, patchouli Base Notes: Ambergris, sandalwood, cisto labdanum, vanilla, musk There are no oceanic notes!!! I guess this is the power of persuasion. If someone tells you this cologne contains marine notes, perhaps 8-9/10 will smell them! I get no such smell. Instead I get a rich citrus up top (i.e. not sparkling) that is more clean then fresh. Next I get a warm earthy middle of patchouli and velvety rose. Then the ambergris starts to kick in. This is not the Creed ambergris, this one is much more earthy. I get mostly darker sandalwood, ambergris, and musk out of this to create an overall effect of earthy wood. I get similarities between this and ADP oud. As with the rest of the line, the quality is noticeable and the perfume lays rich and thick on the skin giving of a sophisticated aura. Not super heavy projection but definite sillage and longevity! I will revisit this one for sure!

I already own several bottles of Acqua di Parma, I was interested in trying Ambra. I just bought a bottle and this stuff is really different from the others. When I sprayed this juice on my skin the notes were dancing. Besides Ambergris this juice gives a deep honey/patchouli vib ending with a hint of smokey/woodsy base. Water notes are listed but I'm not able to pick it up. The musk notes certainty gives it warm tone. Longevity and Silage is excellent lasting 6-8hrs if I spray it 2x. I'm able to detect the aroma at least 1ft away after it's settled. Final thoughts, Kudos to ADP, this juice is a real attractive fragrance they used high quality ambergris. A lot Purfumery's add either vanilla or oakmoss to give it that warm/woodsy aroma. ADP didn't overlap different notes which would of decreased the intensity of Ambergrism The only thing that I'm disappointed with is that I didn't buy the large bottle. Try it for yourself and let the fragrance settle before you give it two thumbs up or down. This is DEFINITELY worth two thumbs up in my opinion. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you want to get the (decently) natural ambergris bomb experience as opposed to the ambroxan bomb experience, this may be your best bet going. But dont wait, its going for about twice the price i paid a year ago. Imagine if acqua di gio profumo was made in the 80s....im kind of serious. It doesnt smell like kouros or polo green but it has this extreme classiness like most adp fragrances. I love this stuff straight up, but if marine and ambergris is something you avoid, act accordingly because this is both, more so the latter. I think even the latest prices are a steal for this fragrance considering how it performs (beastmode, legitimately) and the quality of the ingredients. I also feel like this is an easy signature scent for all weather.

A blind buy at a great price for this quality. I tossed up between the oud and Ambra and glad I chose the latter. It is so aquatic but not in an ocean water kind of way. It is like the shell of 60 yo tortoise covered in sea barnacles. Clean seaweed floats nearby in large amounts and over this the ocean breeze carries musk. Ambergris is special and such is this. I have the 150ml and just love to lather it all over my clothes and body. For those who don't like it, I win by getting more personal space. Often I find some people become obsessed unable to pinpoint who or what it is. I actually think this can be worn day or night in any season. It sits beautifully over leather clothes.

Yes, VERY much like Intensa Oud. Not an exact copy... but the aromachemical AdP used here to simulate ambergris must have a very similar structure to the one used for their Intensa Oud. I have Colonia/Intensa Oud. And I wouldn't buy Ambra until I run out of the Oud. And I probably will. I do like that slightly fresher accord perhaps from the musk and "marine notes" (whatever they are supposed to represent!). But tastes can drift over time... both are great. With either Ambra or Oud, you should test before you buy. In fact, I recommend getting both to sample and live with them for a while. Btw, Ambra longevity is excellent! I think it may be a little better than Intensa Oud.

So ive reviewed this in the past, and love it. But a wee bit ago i got a vintage bottle of cool water from the early 90s. Suprisingly one of the things i was impressed by is how actually excellent the ambergris accord is considering its age and its reputation as nothing special...maybe one of my top favorite ambergris approximations. This actually has a similar ambergris accord, but perfected. It is definetely higher quality than cool water, dont worry lol. The rosy leather vibe is amazing also in this. Tl;dr is that this has one of the best ambergris accords around. The marketing when this was released claimed an unspecified amount of real ambergris...but who knows

Like a store of wooden furniture in the south, the air is humid, and i enter the Store, AC is on and i see good antique Wooden stuff that has been found in the ocean. It is ambra, Sweet, marine, animalic, dirty, yet classy and non offensive. On the contrary of some other reviews i don’t find it synthetic.To love this, first you need to understand the ambergris (Ambra is not about amber!)..takes a while. The presentation is fantastic, and the flacon is also beautiful. But there’s just one criticism; the cap is Unnecessarily too tight That made me unintentionally take out the cover of the atomizer..longevity is indeed satisfying and sillage is quite normal. 7/10

@Dark-X Then is a good thing that I'm +40 because I love it! If one has to be that age to properly wear this perfume, then I would say that's one of the pro's of turning 40. I agree, this feels like a leather perfume, and it's a very nice one. I also agree is a luxurious scent and that it is for more mature men. I only wish it had better performance, perhaps the new eau de parfum version will be an improvement in that area. Why didn't I buy it the day I bought Sandalo and Leather at a discount? Answer: Because I'm an idiot; that, and because my wife was next to me.

I absolutely love this fragrance! In the past few weeks I've decided that Acqua di Parma is my favorite house, unfortunately taking the crown away from Floris. I still love you Floris! LoL This is such a warm and comforting fragrance. The notes listed on my tester bottle are a far cry from what is listed here. Top: Orange, Bergamot, Petit Grain Middle: Rose Accord, Nagarmotha, Virginia Cedarwood, Patchouli Base: Ambergris, Sandalwood, Cisto Labdanum, Vanilla, Musk It also says that it's a "Woody Aromatic"

I've had a long standing love of ADP Oud but due to the cost I've not committed and I've always had an eye on the ADP Leather so for me this "Ambra" is perfect and I've bought a 180ml bottle. After my first wearing I found myself thinking why was I feeling so good yesterday? Then I remembered that smell, Aqua Di Parma have really nailed it for me. Longevity is good/average Sillage is low/average which is as it should be for this cologne.

Very nice! It has some similarities with Colonia Oud, but this one is more mild and "pretty". Fresh notes on a sweet ambergris/musk base with hints of soft creamy vanilla. It's totaly irrestistible! Quite uncommon as a Colonia scent, this is an oriental fragrance. This is the most unisex of the Concentree line, and can easily be worn by women too. First Oud, then Leather, and now this! Where will it end? I'm very impressed!

I really rate this ADP Brown bottle Ambra. It is my third in this line after the legendary OUD and equally fantastic LEATHER, and I warrant this example different enough to justify having all three. This is Musky, rich and luxuriant, a mature and classy fragrance, and one that I personally found instantly accessible, a real love at first scent (albeit I already had a relationship with two of Ambra's cousins!

rating: 6.5/10 I read so many reviews about this perfume and I decided to give it a go buying online since it's not available in where I am located. I really like the smell but unfortunately it's a big disappointment for me that it lasts only 2 hours on me and all my friends said that they could not smell any fragrance on me at all. It is weak on me no matter in longevity and sillage.

Absolutely dreamlike for men. At first, I could only smell the rose and was concerned about not enjoying it because of that, but the rose aspect tends to vanish a little and there remains an incredible woody scent that I can't help but sniff on my wrist. It is veey expensive so not for me now, but it overclasses most other masculine perfumes for my tastes.

It's 2015 I love Acqua di Parma fragrance.they are gorgeous! Colonia Ambra is very good with great longevity and silage..it is My favorite perfume It's near to oud colonia but different, A powerful masculine fragrance..excellent .masterpiece interesting smell..great stuff.. It's a fantastic one of my most complimented fragrances when I wear it

P.s. someone mentioned rose...to be honest i never thought of rose or smelled it originally, but now that you mentioned it i cant un-notice what you mean haha. You could even say the vibe is rose-leather in a sense, but its not the whole of the fragrance to me, i get alot of marine and ambergris

I concur 100% with the user "desordenado" -- "old paintings" was the first impression I got from Colonia Ambra as well. It is old, musky, piercing, pungent and strangely alluring at the same time. Definitely animalic, more like fur than cured leather, with a sparkling tingle on top. As it sometimes happens, the first sniff entailed a resolute no-no, but then the curiosity got the better of me and I found myself returning to this olfactory goodness. What I especially like about it, is the relative lack of sweetness. On one hand, it means that we are not dealing with a crowdpleaser here, far from it. Do not blind buy this fragrance. On the other hand, it adds to the originality of the scent and lets you enjoy the specific salty-sweet ambergris muskiness without the plethora of additional notes that are usually put in the more crowdpleasing aquatics. I mean, this thing is raw! At the same time, I get an impression that you'd have to dress up for Colonia Ambra to acquire a certain gravitas and balance the primal instincts that this fragrance could elicit. BTW, reading some of the reviews, I'm surprised that the animalic ambergris note (synthetic or not) is being constantly mixed up with the oriental amber note. It's not Colonia Ambra's fault that it can't size up to some of the greatest *amber* fragrances. You're comparing apples with oranges. *** After a full wearing, I have to update my review. Unfortunately, this didn't work well on my skin+clothes. I didn't get the sexy animalics vibe nor freshness, more like a stale pungent odour. Had to wash it off. Sorry. Goes to show that you have to thoroughly test fragrances in real life to appreciate the real effect, not just the aesthetic of the notes. It really matters, whether you spray it on the wrist, chest, clothes, hair or blotter. I tested it on my forearm, but wore it on my chest area and it smelled like whole different thing. Of course, ideally you would wear it a few years and then post a review, but that's a bit unrealistic.

Interesting. There are multiple perspectives you can take on this fragrance but let us talk about smell first: SMELL -opening can be off-putting; if you are the type that needs to have a pleasing opening to your fragrances, you may not like this -to my nose, opening smells like a mix of dried paint and fish oil; it's not as bad as it sounds but it's definitely unusual -as the scent dries down, it becomes more refined & I pick up on a rose-vanilla-soft wood accord that significantly (but not entirely) calms down that "dried paint/fish oil" accord Perspective#1 -on the niche fragrance scale of agreeable to disagreeable,this veers closer to the agreeable side -so it has a certain appeal to someone who is looking for a unique & signature scent that can still be perceived as friendly, albeit unusual at times Perspective#2 -have no clue if it's real ambergris in this fragrance; is this just a marketing ploy by the house? -if there's real ambergris in here, is it responsible for that unique "dried paint/fish oil" accord that has an underlying warm sweetness to it? If so, you can say that you now have exposure to what real ambergris can smell like and how much it can differ from ambroxan Perspective#3 -ultimately, the scent can come off as linear - the smell doesn't go through perceptible twist and turns -therefore, it forces you to decide if you like that mixture of the 2 accords (dried paint/fish oil accord VERSUS the rose-vanilla-soft wood accord) -it's an EDC and so it always has soft projection AND yet it's long-lasting and can regularly be perceived throughout a FULL day's wear; this is a good thing because if this was a projection monster, the unusual nature of the smell would veer away from "artistic restraint and refinement" to obnoxious aggressiveness One more thing: this comes off better when you are in open/outside environments - there is a soft aura this scent creates around you that mixes well with fresh/open air. No sea fragrance at all! Ambergris! Soft, warm, golden, a little rough. It smells like antiques, no smell of old and dust, it smells like the museum, which displays paintings of the Italian Renaissance. Definitely it`s a smell for me. I got it right after first trying. Surprise speeches about "who can wear this?" Slightly stricter and colder than Oud AdP. And definitely finer and thinner. From a series of Blu Mediterraneo unfortunately I was not thrilled. *** Still here musk lurks on closer examination. Most likely this is it gives light chillness which at times from skin condition is able to transform into the smell of sweaty beast. As a result: a warm, velvety, amber fragrance with age, highbrow, musk coolth of the Zoological Museum. Pyramid, as usual for new flavors, contains not all components: Top: Orange, Bergamot, Petitgrain, Rose Heart: nagarmotha (cypriol, nut grass), wood of Virginia cedar, patchouli, ambergris Base: wood sandalwood, cistus, musk

This is a warm, hearty amber fragrance that expresses the main note well with a heavy dose of vanilla. I don't detect any of the citrus notes opening notes, as I didn't find that this opened with more acidity or brightness than the rest of its life--it was nicely consistent. Ambergris may be present. At the higher price of the oud/amber/leather group, greater projection is expected, and Colonia Ambra delivers somewhat, though this is no powerhouse (in fairness, it's still described as a EDC but in my estimation, ADP uses EDC liberally). This is too new for the fragrancenet market so it's still only available at its retail price, which isn't bad. Fans of amber and vanilla should explore this, but at the current price ($220 for 100ml), I'm not sure with its longevity and projection, which are decent but not great, it's a worthwhile purchase. 7 out of 10

Ambra forms another fragrance more in line Acqua di Parma: Ingredient Collection. The opening does not feel fresh, from the beginning a musky character faceted woody reminding me very much to his sister Oud but without the leather and the soap base note here made it smoother better match the final result is printed. The centerpiece of Ambra basically is the chord of ambergris combined with wood and rock rose, which produces facets animals, dry and slightly salty, but never smell the sea. However, it still seems somewhat synthetic and artificial by the note of ambergris (Ambroxan) so obvious, undisguised and simple. Still, the resulting aroma is original, wearable and it's nice. The duration is very good and well planned. an ode to Ambroxan. Rating: 5

An Italian art! How amazing! This is an Eau de Cologne concentrate, so we cannot really talking about it as a heavy hitter, it is a skin smell without any beast mode sillage, but smells phenomenal. About 6-7 hours pure high quality gently ambergris journey with orange oil at the beginning, just a hint of cedar and rosewood notes in the middle and vanilla at the end. Super sophisticated fragrance with the classical AdP presentation. Luxury smells for men! I just adore it!!!

This fragrance smell so good it's a shame projection and sillage are under the average range. That said, If you like aquatic fragrances and if performances like those of Millesime Imperial by Creed or l'humaniste by Frapin are not an issue for you, you should try this. It's a beautiful, easy wearable, non offensive casual scent that you can easily rock to the gym or to the office because longevity is fine.

Salty, leathery amber. Strong, loud, & woody. Has a luxurious & mature feeling to it. The leather is as strong as the amber. Could've easily been called "Amber Leather" or something of that sort, despite the lack of leather in the notes pyramid. Honestly, not something I'd enjoy wearing personally. This is more +40 years kind of fragrance. Like.

Leather, dark, smoky, hints of cozy amber sweetness. Not typically my type of scent, it's too strong, smoky, and leathery...I prefer a lighter, brighter scent along the lines of the original ADP Colonia or Mediterraneao lines. Very good quality tho, smells natural and comforting. Scent: 7 / Sillage: 8.5 / Longevity: 9

This cologne is something else! It's definitely a more mature scent, warm and slightly musky with this interesting salty note that I wasn't expecting. Lasts all day too which is a huge plus.

This is stunningly good! Definitley for a mature man (45+). When I get old I'll be wearing this lol.

A fresher, more wearable version of Acqua di Parma's Oud. Don't trust the name.

I smell leather but it's too sharp

Ambroxan Overdose (Francois Demachy, 2015) Scentrack: The Chemical Brothers - Dissolve As a part of Acqua di Parma Ingredient Collection Colonia Ambra is supposed to be dedicated to precious materials of amber or ambergris. Ambergris is very rare whale vomit, which under the influence of the sea and sun is transformed to the beautiful musky and salty odor. Of course, there is not enough of real ambergris to meet the demand of the perfume industry, and the synthetic molecules are used instead. Although it is marketed as the celebration of the most precious and luxurious ingredient, Colonia Ambra is an ode to Ambroxan, a synthetic ambergris molecule. All I can sense on my skin is strong synthetic musky, salty and fresh odor. Nothing natural or rare, just one-dimensional musky odor with shady woody and oudy nuances. Like a slight, airy evolution of older Colonia Oud. I was really shocked that Acqua di Parma released their own version of Dolce & Gabbana Intenso. I expected some lighter, ambery gentleman's cologne. Colonia Ambra is one of my biggest fragrance disappointing. Simply, not recommended synthetic entity. Rating: 3/10

Wasn’t a fan at first. Like the previous reviewer it just smelled strange to me. Nothing conventional about it at the start. Not even the citrusy opening. But the mid and dry down is where this fragrance shines. Can’t even describe the fragrance but to me there is something extremely comforting about it. Total opposite to the oud or leather which those can be loud and sharp. Not this. Ambra is musky, fresh, smooth and original.

Typically 90s. Start fresh, sweet, watery with citrus, violet leaf, roses,woods and generic musk. It gets worse on the bottom when the skin warms up and to my nose remains mature,flat and overly synthetic.I really think I hate ambroxan. Perhaps the most annoying of this house. Great during the day, for the gym or outdoor activities. For skins that devour perfumes. The price?? blasphemous.

Acqua Di Parma fragrances and I just don't seem to gel. Maybe it's my skin chemistry. I've tried several and either they don't last very long and/or just don't smell good. Ambra is the latest example. I had high hopes for this based on other reviews and the notes composition, but sadly it's a rank fail for me. Something in this just smells rotten.

After trying out Oud, Leather and Ambra (I owned FBs of both Leather and Ambra) I have to say that only Leather is worth mentioning and is pretty good. Oud is no oud at all, it is a bland norlimbanol bomb and Ambra, whose having I regretted deeply as I bought it blind, as I thought that after Leather it should be a great Amber based fragrance. Sadly, Ambra was also very, very bad, a norlimbanol and ambroxan bomb with no character at all, smelling very synthetic. I am very dissapointed in this house and will not buy from it again. They have exceptional design of the bottles and packaging, the story is great, but the substance is lacking. If anyone from AdP bothers to read these comments - focus more on substance, because this way you are not going to finish well. It seems to me that they are not even using ingredients that should be there, I certainly did not detect most of the notes that are listed, and in Ambra I am very sure there is no ambergris (I know that it is extremely rare that any perfume has it, however, if you compare exceptional ambers like TF AA or Profumum Ambra Aurea, this is far on the other side of the scale, pretty worthless). And for the price they are charging, it is a "emperor is naked" story. As I see that AdP as a house does not use famous noses to make their scents, it also says a thing in itself. It looks like their marketing team is involved to create bland, lifeless fragrances that should appeal to rich snobs who are looking for something a bit better and with a bit more character than your usual designer fragrances. Moving to the scent itself, it is barely appealing at some moments, very generic, and the strong synthetic notes persist 99% of the time of the duration of the scent. For that reason I cannot give it more than 2/10

Warning, scent lovers! This is amber, as in ambergris, not amber as in amber. This is NOT an 'amber-coloured' scent. Thankfully I don't get much 'blue' in this, despite its 'marine' quality. I mean the blue that smells airy and maritime, and which dominated scents in the 90s/00s. I don't like those scents. So if you're into 'blue' scents, or 'freshies' as they're sometimes called here, then this is not the one for you. That said, this is remarkably fresh - but it's not that airy Issey Miyake or Cool Water type of thing. It's fresh, animalic but not Kouros-y. It feels "rooted, " masculine, and honest, and I really like it. It's a straightforward, masculine scent, linear (not a criticism). Suits all occasions and seasons including work/car journeys, but going well beyond being just one more "generic designer work scent." It's very distinctive and unique, without being 'wacky' or 'challenging.' I like to think of scents in colours - I like amber scents. But this isn't an 'amber' scent like, say, Gucci Pour Homme original, or Lagerfeld Classic. It's not 'warm and spicy' as many amber scents are. It's fresh, dynamic and open, but yet very 'grounded' and 'tied to nature'. It's 'amber' because it's based on ambergris, not because it's amber coloured. Perfume Parlour also do an amazingly good knock-off for a tenner.

An interesting fragrance. I love it. Ambra definitely grew on me. Upon first spraying and testing, I couldn't get the idea of some fancy, vintage wooden furniture out of my head. It smelled too linear, sharp and musky. I gave it another shot a few days later, and ever since, I've been loving Colonia Ambra. Colonia Ambra starts very sharp, with citrusy and aquatic-type notes. Very quickly, sandalwood and patchouli peek through. The result is a thick, sharp, dense cloud of Italian refinement. Soon after, the ambergris (or ambroxan) can be detected. Subtle, but present. In my opinion, this is what makes this fragrance have excellent longevity on my skin. There is a hint of the Creed DNA here very late in the dry-down; Sandalwood and Ambergris are the likely culprits. Main notes to my nose are: citrus, sandalwood, patchouli and ambergris. This ends up smelling very rugged yet somehow smooth, and those around me seem to love it. Longevity is at around 12 hours, projecting for 4 hours. Chic and sharp.

Acqua Di Parma is one of my favorite brands and I have nearly 15 of them including all from the brown line. I didn't mind this one at first and thought it was decent but never wore it. I tried it again yesterday for the first time in 3 months or so and had to whipe it off. It's not good at all and by far the worst AdP I've smelled. I've smelled them all and can honestly say there isn't one I don't like until now. This smells like an old woman and isn't masculine at all. It's very cloying and kind of sweet. If you're looking for a darker Acqua Di Parma definitely get Sandalo. By far the best one out of this line. I would take Mirra or Ebano over this as well.

I think I'll have to buck the trend on this one, as I'm a big fan. This is one of those fragrances which garners polar opposites of opinion, some dislike it, whilst other love it. It's a little sweet, I like it in cooler temperatures when I want a change from leathers and ouds. I'm getting rose, cedarwood and sandalwood. Having smelt real ambergris, I can't say I'm getting that, but I'm getting a very pleasing fragrance either way. It lasts a good 8 hours on my skin and that's in cooler weather.

For the first two hours, the salty and animalic "ambergris" note conflicts with the gorgeous musk base in a somewhat unpleasant way that folks have been comparing to the smell of an ancient oil painting. But in the drydown on a hot day, the notes ultimately blend into a rich, almost gourmand musk. I have a sample and will not be purchasing a FB, but for those who find the opening off-putting, I do suggest giving this a little time before scrubbing. The drydown is phenomenal.

Smelled this today: I was surprised, I am not super well versed but I can say that it was an amber with a fresh top, bergamot? and definitely featured a surprising hint of patchouli in the amber-y base. Didn't try it on my skin so I am not really capable of making longevity or sillage comments but I am a terrible person to test longevity on anyway. It was interesting and it certainly smelled good. I'll have to have a deeper test before I think about buying though.

OK. Let's say I just came from Rome, and I love shoping in Acqua di Parma boutique in Rome, and have already bought many of their perfumes. So this time I bought the Ambra. It is really perfect, but....it lasts only half an hour. I was so dissapointed, because I paid 172 euros for 100 ml. Instead I should have gone back to Oud, as they belong to the same line, but the oud lasts much longer. I don't like such an expensive fragnance ending in my wardrobe at work.

I do not get where folks state it is Colonia Oud without the oud. The is a wonderful, simple fragrance that stands out on its own. Divine simplcity combined with subtleness of the the scent make this a masterpiece of elegance. Alluring and sexy, capricious and sublime....that is what this fragrance is. No earthiness whatsover. Gorgeous from the get go and the dry down is great. I would imagine this is what elves out of Tolkien would smell like.

Over all, a disappointment. This is Colonia Mirra and Colonia Oud mixed together and toned way way down. It's my least favorite of the three, with Oud in second and the discontinued Mirra (unfortunately) in first. This leans feminine and simply does not perform. I would recommend this to an older woman who likes the women's offerings from Creed. If you are a man and you find Mirra, GET IT.
