Bacilicò

I have the eponymous Acqua di Taormina and as I enjoy that, I thought I'd try another one from the line and so I picked up Bacilico. It's rather lovely. It opens with a moderate, almost strong sillage, and you get a herb garden with lots of green, especially basil. There's a strong patchouli in the opening along with hints of wood, what appears to be an almost licorice-like note, and a general feeling of something which is at once aromatic, fresh spicy and, above all else, herbal in its overall feel. Gradually the licorice-like note transforms itself into lavender and the woody elements begin to play a bigger part compared to the green notes. However, that basil and patchouli combination remains the dominant theme throughout the life of the perfume. It doesn't take long for it to calm down to a moderate sillage and it becomes a skin scent after about three hours or so on me. I'd say it lasts about five or six hours before it vanishes. I would choose this for spring and summer and early autumn as a perfume to wear during the day. Would I recommend it? Definitely - if you like your green, herbal, fresh perfumes. Will I get a second bottle? I doubt it because I think Guerlain do this sort of thing better with their Herba Fresca from the Acqua Allegoria line and I'd choose that over this for another purchase. But the experience makes me more inclined to try yet another one or two from the House as this small outfit is more than a one hit wonder. So, Ficuviddi or Petra Lavica will be next up, probably around Christmas.
