Glie - Elixir Rural

I blind bought this based on the notes, the reviews, and, well, the bottle, which caught my attention immediately. I have only the travel version, but I will gladly buy a full bottle of this, because this is not only an olfactory experience, but also visual. I would love to see the process of creation. To the fragrance – at first, it reminded me of a rusty nail and dirt. Not the cloying patchouli one, but sun-dried on a piece of polished wood. Lately, I realized that I enjoyed this smell during my art classes when I was a kid. The exact moment, when you are in the classroom in an old building, the teacher brings the fired ceramics you made last week and now it is time to put a pottery glaze on it, so you start opening various colors of glazes in the old glass jars and the smell is just heavenly... Earthy, rusty, grounding, but somehow uplifting. My bows and immense admiration to this man and this creation. Please do not ever discontinue this.

i have to contain my excitement but smelling this was a visceral sensorial experience. this is descending from the tea and spice cabinet, animalic, ambery, topped with thin dried blood orange slices. imaginary smell of starched handwoven linen sheets stored in the cedar chest —french lavender bud crumbs falls out when you unfold them. i don’t yet know why it’s so good but this may be one of the best thing i’ve smelled in a long time. instantly soothes my nervous system. had to do a comparing spray with ormonde woman which i had a big crush on and lives in the same universe but glie hugged it into oblivion. time worn folk art wooden birthing chair next to ikea stackholmen. i am madly in love.

Almost fainted smelling this. This is strikingly good. Angelica is prominent, delivering a peppery and green tone that bridges the herbal coolness and the warmth and powderiness underneath. A touch of eugenol adds vividness and volume. It bears some resemblance to Heart of Darkness by Providence Perfume Co., though it feels less austere and instead more soothing. Evokes an impression of a sun-dried canvas jacket that has been stored in the wardrobe for some time. A transparent and subtle note of dried fruit is also present.

It is very green. I think its pretty mossy and kind of dark. If you want to smell like a swamp witch, go with this one.

This immediately brought me back to being 9-14 years old and having to spend every weekend serving during mass at our local church. If you’ve ever stepped foot in a Roman Cahtolic sacristy you would recognize this scent immediately. It’s impressive how much Glie manages to smell exactly like church incense while having no incense, frankincense, or myrrh notes listed. It’s not a bad smell though I would quickly get a headache if I over-sprayed. I will say I wouldn’t consider Gile a green scent – it’s too smoky or resinous for that. Would likely perform very nicely in winter weather.
