Modest Deux

Ok you definitely have to let this sit. I got this perfume almost 2 years ago. I had immediately used it and to my nose i didn’t like it because it smelled too much of patchouli, but at the same time i got so many compliments saying i smelled sexy. I didn’t get it but because of that i decided not to give it away and let it sit. Turns out i didn’t touch it till 2 years later, you definitely don’t need to let it sit that long but after revisiting it, my god this perfume is soo good. I’m pretty sure the notes on fragrantica are listed incorrectly, but at first spray it’s super fruity but not in a fresh sweet way, in a dark syrupy sweet way. So yummy! I don’t get much rose (basing this off the afnan listed notes) but rose does typically pull super green syrupy on me, probably explains why i smell that here without the green. I definitely get jasmine but it’s not in your face or too much of that dirty jasmine smell, patchouli has died down so much i barely smell it. I also get a slight soapy smell (if you guys have ever used lux soap the rose version it smells a little like that) After letting it sit on skin after 15 min If i close my eyes and just smell it, it smells like a bouquet of flowers that was dipped in a berry compote and you put it in a vase in your bathroom and you take a nice bath. I’m really enjoying this scent, i wouldnt use it during warmer weather but im looking forward when the temperature cools down, i wonder if what im smelling now is specific to the temperature here which is pretty warm right now, would love to do an update when it cools down and compare what i smell. Edit: i still want to note this fragrance is still very heavy and sweet, the soap smell i get is soooo slight but i enjoy it bc it kinda cuts the heavy syrup scent, i assume this is the white musk playing a role here

I have to agree with another review on this fragrance: there is nothing modest about it whatsoever! When I initially bought it, I didn’t think much of it upon first test and there it sat on my vanity through the hot summer months... I pulled it back out to try once more now that it’s cooling down where I live and holy sh*t, this definitely needed to marinate for me a little. Upon first spray it was a delicious chocolate-y berry concoction that immediately made me perk up and take note. On the dry down it, on me skin, it turns into a thick, mouth watering honey-like scent that had me sniffing my arm over and over, then settles into a similar gentle honeyed vanilla with a hint of incense that keeps it from being cloying, yet makes it sexy as hell. And that girl projects and leaves a trail. My husband did a double take looking for the source of it upon entering the living room. This is sexy, alluring, and in your face but in a way that says “move closer.” Definitely not one I’d wear to the office, and this coming from someone who has zero problems wearing perfumes to work that most people would call night/date/party scents. For me this is the one I’d keep for those special occasions, because the way it reacts on my skin is definitely not modest whatsoever. It’s also not one meant for hot weather, imho, as it can already be intense on its own and heat only strengthens perfumes. Heat may make it cloying, so preferable fall/winter. I would say for gourmand lovers and anyone whose skin chemistry plays nice with sweet scents, this may be a gigantic winner. It’s also so incredibly affordable, which is a huge win.

It gets frustrating when there is conflicting notes, most the time I trust the brand. This is twice I disagree and my nose agrees with fragrantica’s notes. I got this late August. We had a surprisingly early cooler night for football, so I wore it only a week after receiving. So, my husband has not been able to smell any of these fragrances I have bought this year bc of long covid. On the way to the game, he scared me to pieces when he excitedly burst out, “YOU SMELL LIKE CHOCOLATE”! I ask if he was sure, not cherry, all I could smell was red berries, heavy, sweet cherry. My daughter chimed in, yes Momma, you smell like chocolate cherries, it is strong, but smells really good. So are we all crazy? I am wearing for review today, scanning notes & reviews. I smell cherry & berries & chocolate. Then the vanilla mixes in with what smells like cinnamon, then quickly the patchouli mixed with gardenia. The florals are barely there, the patchouli owns the base. The musk is not heavy, it is all blended smoothly now. It is sultry sweet & spicy. This smells so good, it has gotten darker since I got it. I first thought I could wear on a Summer evening, no, not here in our humidity. I can do nights in early Autumn, then days until mid Spring. It really messed with my head last time this happened, but because my entourage smelled it too, I am more confident I smell cherry, chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla & patchouli. And I LUVVIT 20/10

I bought this in January as an early, fun, Valentines Day gift to myself! Lol. I had read nice reviews about it and I thought it would be perfect for the occasion! Modest Deux does not disappoint even a classic fragrance lover as myself. I’m inclined to and enjoy many Middle Eastern fragrance houses but I’m not exactly a gourmand lover as I find the sweet oppressive, but this lovely fragrance brought out the delicious notes but left the killer sugar notes in the kitchen! Thank heavens! It’s a lovely Raspberry-Strawberry jammy forward scent with soft decadent cherry in the background. Dark chocolate and vanilla play beautifully in and through the berries adding a lovely layer of richness. Patchouli and musk are oh so lovely grounding the fragrance with their subtle nuances and making all of the notes sync perfectly with each other. A brilliant piece of fragrance art that stays with me longer now than last month and has come into itself since resting for a few weeks! It’s cheerful, bright and sensual. I would wear it anytime except on hot stifling humid days of summer. Would make a safe appreciated gift. 🎁 Addendum: I need to point out this fragrances only downfall is its sharply pointed cap. Take care when taking it off and putting it back on the beautiful bottle. You could unintentionally hurt your self. 😉🌹

Warning:this has to warm up on your skin& im glad i waited 3days after my bottle was shipped,so it could settle perfume,because the first day i tried this&sprayed on my skin it only smelled of a weird floral,3 days later an hour after being on my skin it started as a floral fresh gourmand&then changed into strawberry 🍓 chocolate floral&while staying fresh,then into a sweet berry chocolate&not overly sweet,its unique,im glad i didnt write this off&gave it a few more tries on my skin different days&times,its more nostalgic to me in a happy way,like im at a picnic at a park,sunshine strawberry fresh flowers&chocolate blended smoothly,it just has to warm up on skin this perfume,at least on me,this goes away&comes back as skin warms up,ill try this in hotter weather to see if it changes,for now in my opinion this is a casual cute happy scent for me,lasts over 8hrs on me,good blind buy. Unique&different for an affordable scent🌷🍓🍫so cute&feminine lasts on skin~update March 2023~now that weather has warmed up this is so much better in the spring it's mainly tart strawberry cherry dark rich berry&chocolate now,in the best sexy bouncy juicy fruity Feminine dark&lovely forest fruit way♡fresh dark juicy tartness with chocolate love it,not too sweet just perfect now,totally a L♡VE,wow!
