Silver Shade

This is probably the most underrated and least discussed SMW clone. Al Wisam Day is touted as being the "best" and sometimes "better" than SMW, and it's an excellent fragrance in its own right, but something about AWD keeps me from considering it on par with Creed. To be clear, I don't expect any $20 or $30 clone to really be on par with Creed, but I'm seeking one that exerts maximum effort on all fronts for its price point. Enter Ajmal Silver Shade. This fragrance is interesting. I purchased it for $20, but a few years ago it was roughly $60 (demand continues, supply has opened up). The bottle is beautiful, silver frosted glass that fades to transparent at the bottom, with a heavy in-hand feel. The road to understanding Silver Shade cuts directly through its top notes. This opens with a radiant citrus accord with crisp lemon and lime shimmering through the first five minutes, and this citrus is beautiful. At this price point, citrus accords tend to smell "grey" and synthetic, with furniture polish elements wedded to kitchen cleaners, but Silver Shade's citrus smells juicy, expansive, natural, recognizable, and I have no doubt that the perfumer used very good materials, probably a bit beyond the norm for something this inexpensive. As the citrus decelerates, the blackcurrant emerges. It's the same blackcurrant chem used in all the other cheap clones, but again, the perfumer takes it to a different level. Where Al Wisam Day goes overboard with shampoo-like rose ketones, and Derby Clubhouse Blanche gets noncommittally sweet, and Sun Java White gets incredibly blackcurrant focused, Silver Shade conjoins the currant with wonderfully subdued violets and violet leaf. There are other floral notes, but they're sheer, delicately rendered, only slightly sweet, and incredibly well blended. This fragrance is well done. There are some who knock its longevity, and I also sense that this is a weak point for the scent, but here's the thing about SMW and its clones: they're very "high pitched" fragrances. Olfactory fatigue sets in fast, and tends to stick around for hours. I recall having difficulty smelling my sample of SMW after just thirty seconds on skin. It's possible that this is what happens with Silver Shade, and given its lighter note profile, full of sunny citrus fruits and clean green notes, I wouldn't be surprised if longevity is actually good. All things considered, if you're saying Al Wisam Day is the "best," you really ought to check out Silver Shade. It doesn't have a "metallic" element like the Rasasi, its citrus smells natural, its blackcurrant isn't that sweet, and its floral drydown is restrained and classy. Al Wisam Day is a terrific frag. Ajmal Silver Shade is better.

First encounter with this fragrance: When I first sprayed it on, in winter, on cold skin, the fragrance has a metalic-citrus feel (like some "blue fragrances" in the cold), maybe because of the noticeable violet leaf. That violet leaf then mixes with the florals, the musk and the sandalwood to give it a creamy and cold feel. There is a refreshing fruity note in the background (maybe the black currant) that stays from beggining to end. On a different wear, I came out of the shower, hot and moisturized skin, and sprayed this on. The metalic feel was barely noticeable and a powdery fresh rose was complimenting the citrus and violet leaf combo in the beginning of the fragrance. The dry down ended up more creamy and somewhat citrus green on this second wear. Performance was more than I expected, but I can't say for certain after 2 wearings. Anyway, got a full day out of this on the first encounters. For people on the edge when it comes to buying this - if you don't like musky florals, stay away from this. I personally enjoy this very much! Will get back on this review when the weather warms up (I think this would be great in the summer. EDIT: Been wearing this in different conditions in the past year. Here's the thing: - if you wear this in the heat (over 25*C) this will smell of a salty-musky lavender with citruces and a bit of woods and sweetness in the background; very classy, but also can be worn casually - if you wear this in the cold you will get a metallic funkiness that is unpleasant The fragrance is very linear. Performance is great, lasts all day on me, but never projects too much and after 3h gets very close to the skin. Hope this helps! Cheers!

I've only worn Silver Mountain Water a few times and this was back at the end of 2016 from a 5ml sample. Due to this I have only a superficial impression of it. I have however used up almost 100ml of Rasasi Al Wisam Day and about 20ml of Al Rehab Silver. This Ajmal seems closer to how I remember the Creed. It's thinner and crisper than my Al Wisam Day and has a more watery metallic accord than it. Seems to me to occupy the space between the Creed and the wholly and ridiculously inexpensive Al Rehab. I find the Rasasi to be have rose and the Ajmal to have juicy blackcurrant. The Ajmal dries down more powdery. That said, they're all close. The performance on my skin of the Ajmal is equal to the Creed and Rasasi and superior in all respects as you'd expect to the Al Rehab. Money well spent. I personally prefer this to my beloved Al Wisam Day. The notes suggest that it may suit warmer weather more but I personally preferred the Al Wisam Day the Ajmal has now replaced in cold weather. The frost made the Rasasi really sparkle and I'll be very interested in seeing how the Ajmal behaves in the cool. For now though I'm using it in the improving warmer weather and it's fine and suitable for that.

Hi team, Was as curious about Ajmal as I was about Creed's SMW so I made a blind online buy. No regrets. I don't have many unisex frags, probably my second after swiss Arabians oud abyad (which has taken me 8 months to warm up to). This is a much easier genre and fragrance by comparison. Main notes I get in the opening are mild citruses and soft florals. The jasmine in this is my favourite. 30 mins in, all musk and black currant. Drying down to the base, it gets heavier in a soapy way and is really florally fresh. The blend is incredible and so beautiful. I could wear this in summer with a white button down and I'd probably rather wear this to do yard work than any other neroli or jasmine fragrances I own. The only similar fragrance I have to this is azzaro chrome pure, but that's much more focused on citrus and tonka. Performance is wonderful, it's a comforting floral scent with a nice soft woody backbone. I feel like I could share this with anyone over 30. Love it

So I got CDNS years ago, and I despised it because of the inky metallic smell, I never smelled SMW older batches. I just got this for 11€ and I feel bad that hot days are gone now because I would rock this on the high heat, this compared to Sillage, is way more toned down on that inky note it’s more round. Pleasant citrus at the top, light powdery floral and airy on skin but present and has a lovely musky base, slighty sweet slightly woody. 7.5/10 on first impressions. Would choose this instead of Armaf Sillage every day of the week, the reason; not every fragrance has to be “beast mode”, and I think that’s where armaf ruined their own. Silver Shade is an example of that.

A familiar profile with more fruit, musk, and florals. I really like it. I also get a hint of a sweet aquanet 80s hairspray smell that I adore. Performs well. Full bottle at decant price. So just get it. It's at the front of my shelf. This profile never gets old, and this is a unique twist. Much love It got old and redundant. It's room spray deodorizer now. Smells pleasant. It's wearable still. I like this style and have so many others I prefer. I used to wear cheaper freshies and spend on the darker winter scents. Now that I've gotten into better quality fresh scents it's hard to go back. Whereas the cheaper winter frags are more forgiving and tolerable.

Ajmal's Silver Shade is a great Silver Mountain Water alternative. The ingredients smell like they are very high quality and they smell very natural. Silver Shade smells like SMW, but with a stronger citrus, florals in place of the green tea note and a minimal ink note. In place of the green tea, there's rose, jasmine, iris, violet leaf, and plum. I find Silver Shade to be on the same level of quality as Rasasi Al-Wisam Day. Silver Shade smells of a higher quality than Al-Rehab Silver and Armaf Derby Club House Blanche. This was another successful blind buy, great stuff! It also reminds me a lot of Xerjoff Mefisto

Floral take on Silver Mountain Water. Or may be it's just a twist by Ajmal. But whatever, this fragrance is great. The drydown speaks class, quality and luxury. Club de nuit sillage is also good, but the florals and that inky undertone shines in Silver Shade more Vibrantly. Smooth, rich and airy florals. Just amazing with above average performance. 7-8 hours of longevity. 2 hours of good projection.

Compared to Al Wisam Day (rounder, sweeter, and creamier), this is fresher with a metallic hint, making it closer to SMW although with a Middle Eastern twist—an Oriental muskiness that could be interpreted as "oudy," which gives it more character, but at the same time less wearable and not as easy-breezy as originally intended.

Bought a bottle of this for myself, my wife loved it so much that I have to share it with her now and I don't blame her, this is one clone that I would actually recommend over SMW just because of the price difference and the quality you get for the price. For a sub $15 price, this is just incredible.

Metallic citrus with an iris-dominant musk. Smooth yet biting, very fresh but still distinctly sweet. I like this a lot, layers well with SMW, but can also be enjoyed on its own. Lasts around 5-6 hrs on the skin, best suited for warm weather and warm weather only.

What a nice surprise. A fresh and juicy scent that's perfectly balanced. I can't stop sniffing my arm. For the price this is an absolute steal and no brainer. Stop trying to compare with anything else and just get it!

Excellent scent. I was an early adopter and had to hunt it down, so I treasure it more that others. It sits a little too close to the skin but the scent is cool and refreshing. Great SMW clone.

The metallic note is very close to SMW with a touch of floral notes. The projection and longevity is decent for the price. A good inoffensive everyday scent.

as everybody says is a good copy of SMW and yes its almost identical with good performance . its good plus its cheap but will made and the bottle is cool

It was the best dupe until Club de Nuit Sillage came out—This one has too much character and derives a bit from SMW.

In terms of smell, this wipes the floor with Armaf CDNS.

Not my favorite SMW clone, however this is a NECESSITY for me! It's not really that close to SMW on its own, but it layers extremely well. Specifically, it layers well with Al-Rehab Silver as well as Armaf Derby Clubhouse Blanche. (Separately, not together). 1 spray of this for every 2 sprays of Derby Clubhouse Blanche, and the combination is THE CLOSEST thing to the real SMW I've tried. Once the top notes subside, I freshen up the Derby Clubhouse, but Silver Shade lasts much longer, as a base for it. Layering with Al-Rehab Silver is very nice for extremely warm days. The combination is very airy and ozonic, but not too close to the real SMW, and yet it's one of my favorites for warm weather; specifically layered together, as I don't love either of them individually. If you can afford it, the best standalone SMW clone I've tried is the newer batches of Rasasi Al Wisam Day (which is usually $50). I don't personally find CdN Sillage to be that close because there's a strong ambroxan note in its base that really ruins it for me. The best clone on a budget on its own, would be Derby Clubhouse Blanche, although it's performance isn't the best. Silver Shade has a nice spicy patchouli-like base which departs from SMW, but it does smell great, again, especially layered. Hope this helps someone!

I like this well. It reminded me of something clean and citrusy Calvin Klein would make except perhaps more complex and lush but also a bit riskier. The "color" I got was the color of water and the image was something like being on a fruit-scented airliner. (There is a metallic quality at times.) The clean, lemony/citrus scent lasts quite long compared to much I've tried. The musk here isn't too heavy, but it is there. I should add there was a brief period right after the opening that was pretty chemically, but overall if you're looking for a long-lasting citrus scent, this seems like a good bet, especially for people outside all day who can't reapply. I'd wear it again.

This is a good clone of SMW. Not really very accurate but one of the best. There's a nice touch of rose and jasmine which I like. But overall it feels quite close to the original. Longevity is moderate. This is not a strong scent that some youtube reviewers say. Sillage and projection are moderate but after an hour or so it stays close to the skin. My favourite clones of SMW are Pure Silver by Karen Low-Geparlys Parfums, Ajmal Silver Shade and Brown Orchid Blanc Edition by Ard Al Zaafaran house. The last one is not accurate but has mouthwatering citruses especially at the opening which I like.

Very sharp, clean burst of lime in the opening followed by a floral notes. Aside from a little musk, I'm not really smelling the other base notes listed. The lime and floral notes are the most existing, so I don't think this one leans more masculine. I think it sits right in the middle of unisex. The only time I see myself wearing this is light clothes, nice weather, maybe a relaxing day outside. It's not for me to wear to work or to the gym. It's alright, it would be alot better if the woods mentioned had more of a presence.

This fragrance is anything but citrusy. I donot get any citrus notes. Initial notes are metallic, slightly floral and something more(which i donot know, what exactly it is), but extremely fresh. But the floral notes become very prominent at dry down, especially the rose. It also smells very soapy/powdery at drydown which i find a bit feminine, yet very fresh. The metallic note might give some people headache. Good cheap fresh fragrance for summer with above average projection, sillage and performance.

Ajmal Silver Shade was recommended by Nikihl from 'Exotic Scents on YT. I really like it,but I find it a quality juice with some real depth which was a nice surprise.Very close to Creed SMW I get notes of plum,violet bergamot and black currant. Later I think I smell a bit of jasmine and then it turns to my nose a bit more flowery with a note I can't identify. Very nice overall with good sillage and longevity and I only have a 10 ml sample.

I agree with usman ali, this is a good copy of creed's silver mountain water but with a citrus note at the start. After you have smelled silver mountain water you won't be able to pick up the citrus note. Though it may not be of the same quality as silver mountain water but it is really good, specailly for the price it can be attained for

Simply put, this is a great cheapie that smells fresh and clean. I've never smelled Creed's SMW (or all the other clones), so I cannot compare, but on its own Silver Shade is very nice. Unless you're a very picky fan of SMW, this one is fantastic as a substitute that's relatively cheap and has better than average performance.

As all reviewers have noted, this is a very good copy of SMW, although there's a lot more citrus in this one. While it's no substitute for SMW, it's a very good alternative at a fraction of the price - I paid USD 10 for 100ml! The bottle is also very well made. Longevity is good, I get around 5 hours with moderate sillage.

Very loud and different smell. Gives you the feel of perfumed metallic notes. Must have keeping price and performance in mind. Some people might feet it harsh in opening, but once it settles down, it gives you good whiffs. Fragrance: 8/10 Projection: 7/10 (For 2-3 hours for 2-3 feet) Longevity: 9/10 Value for Money: 10/10

Smells fresh and kinda ok after you let it dries down for about 30-60 minutes. Not a fan of the top note because of its metallic and tangy smell. Edit: after a few tries, the dry down is actually pretty good, still not a fan of the opening though.

Citrusy floral musk done well. I like the light whiffs that you get throughout the day from your clothes. Perfectly unisex and great for hot, humid days. The metallic note is toned down if you spray it on your clothes and not your skin.

i can see why people are saying that is smells metallic, i cant say i found it, but the drydown has that tinch of camphor.

Bueno! mi primera review en fragántica, básicamente por que cuando me he decidido a empezar justo me ha llegado esta fragancia de Notino despues de ver unas cuantas reviews y estar en pleno verano. La salida que tiene esto en piel, me huele a perfume de mujer 100%. Cuando pasan unos minutos, ese perfume de mujer desaparece y nos quedamos con un olor al gel "lactovit". Es un "buen olor" para estar en casa, no se yo muy bien si me lo pondré para salir a tomar algo o estar con amigos, pero si estoy en casa tomando algo en la terraza o trabajando etc, quizá si me lo pondría, por que en lo personal, el olor del gel lactovit me gusta. Seguiré haciendo pruebas y actualizando según me digan la gente de mi alrededor.

The opening has a sort of weird metallic spiciness to it that's interesting, but I don't love. It doesn't last terribly long. The dry-down is really nice, though. Very citrusy and fresh. Performance is pretty good. Update: I still like this, but less than I did at the beginning. While still being very masculine, it’s very floral. I get quite a bit of the rose note, and it can qet a bit cloying. It’s nice, but I think it’ll probably make its way to the back of my shelf soon.

Somewhat disappointed in this one. The opening is PIERCING (but maybe that's the point?) and there's a note in here that makes my nose burn. Maybe it's the ambroxan? Longevity is also not there for me, definitely not EDP caliber. All the comments about a metallic smell are certainly correct. This is something a robot would wear. Great presentation, but I think Rasasi's Al-Wisam Day is the better fragrance. It's smoother and less synthetic smelling.

Way to flowery for a typical man scent. The iris powder also hinders it somehow. Smelling it close to the skin, you can sense the synthetic nature of it. No doubts there for me unfortunately. May be an ok unisex which you can give it to your adolescent daughter perhaps, but that's it. As a man, I cannot wear it.

I used to own this one a few years ago, ended up selling it as I thought it smelled too feminine. Fast forward to the present day -- my taste has developed. I've opened up a bit more to florals, Iris in particular. So now after retrying this, I appreciate it a lot more. Its not as refined as SMW, nor is it an exact clone, but it doesn't need to be. The quality is still great, its a bit synthetic, yes, but the scent alone is wonderful. In all actuality this is a lot closer to Agrumi Amari di Sicilia by Bois 1920, then it is SMW. The addition to Iris, plum and violet leaf is simply refreshing. I love it -- repurchased a bottle immediately. There's a new bottle design, I figure a reformulation took place, my old bottle and sample are from the old formulation. Will update if I notice any differences. EDIT: Unfortunately, the base is riddled with ambroxan. The cheap, rust smelling kind, not surprised considering the price. Shame, because this could have been a masterpiece without it.

I had high hopes for this one sins i love Silver mountain water . But this is so screechingly sharp and musky. With a ton of metallic smell . I can hardly detect anything else then the Oudy Oriental musk and the metal not. yes there is some floral notes rose mostly and off course the citrus i was hoping for , But its all drowned in the metall sink and musk. And this oud musk never goes away . I have problem with this kind of musk and also oud so this will be hard one to pull of for me. It is InFact unisex . i can easely see a woman wear this as well . Just not for me .

When I first fell down the perfume rabbit hole, I binged every Top 10 Fragrances list out there. Creed Silver Mountain Water kept popping up, but my wallet staged a protest. So, I chased the hype with Ajmal Silver Shade. Big mistake. It greeted me with sharp metallic notes and synthetic screams. I wore it to the office a few times, trying to force the love like an arranged marriage gone wrong. In the end, I dumped the sample and my faith in Ajmal both into the abyss.

I don't know what happened if it's my skin chemistry, a crappy tester or Ajmal reformulated this one but I tested the latest version in a newly opened store in my place and it's not the one I used to love. It's straight from the bottle not one of those mini-testers they give away. It turned into lemon pledge meets Forest Interlude after an hour. Still an absolute clinger, no question about longevity.

To be succinct, this is a clone of Silver Mountain Water WITH a "urinal cake" smell added to the mix. That must be the civet note I see listed here on Fragrantica. It left my collection for this reason - Silver Mountain Water has always been a little artistic or slightly daring to begin with but to add a pissy undertone to it - it makes it unwearable for me. Female here, this is the most masculine scent in my collection right now. The metallic scent in the opening disappears quickly in an hour and the woodsy and powdery accord reminds me of 80's Avon Forest interlude in the drydown.

this is a bergamot fragrance with a little bit of SMW tingling in the background. The opening is very sharp and the Drydown feels synthetic but pleasant. Longevity is good on clothes, doesn’t stay on my skin for long.

Basically just scented water. Performance not satisfactory. Have a 10 ml decant, not gonna buy a full presentation.

Not a big fan of this one. This frag is a big blast of citrus and metallic iron smell. Feels cheap.
