Azlan Oud Saffron Edition

One word: Potent.....Perfect for winter.

Rating: ⭐⭐ (2/5) While Al Haramain usually hits home runs with their Middle Eastern DNA, Azlan Oud Saffron feels like a swing and a miss. It attempts to play in the same sandbox as the famous saffron-heavy niche fragrances we all know, but it stumbles in the execution. The Profile Breakdown The Opening: On paper, the mix of Fig, Saffron, and Violet sounds sophisticated. In reality, the fig adds a milky, green sweetness that clashes with the metallic sharpness of the saffron. Instead of being "airy," it feels cluttered and heavy right out of the gate. The Mid & Dry Down: The Incense and Dry Amber middle notes lack the "sparkle" found in higher-end blends. It leans heavily into a medicinal, almost "dentist office" vibe that never quite settles into the skin. The Performance: Despite being an Extrait de Parfum, the "Beast Mode" projection many crave is replaced here by a dense, suffocating cloud that lacks the elegance of a well-balanced scent. Why it doesn't work for me: Confused Identity: It doesn't know if it wants to be a fresh-green fig scent or a dark, resinous oud. By trying to be both, it loses the "wow" factor. Synthetic Edge: There’s a distinct synthetic "rubbing alcohol" note that lingers far too long, overshadowing the cedar and musk in the base. The "Clone" Trap: If you're looking for a smooth BR540 or even a refined Oud, this feels like a rougher, more "plastic" version of better alternatives like Amber Oud Ruby. Verdict: If you value technical precision and high-quality oil concentrations, this one feels unpolished. It lacks the "gravity" and clean performance of a true top-tier fragrance. Hard pass.

#1100 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I had previously purchased Al Haramain's "Azlan Oud Bleu" and thought it was a nice scent, but like all blues, a moderate performer. This is much stronger than moderate initially, mostly a blast of incense and saffron, which kinda comes across like walking in a field of sagebrush in hot, dry weather, but the dry down is nothing but cedar. Somewhat reminiscent of Asdaaf's "Madj al Sultan" and Agatho Parfum's "Giardinodiercole", but those scents don't dry down to a single note like this does. I don't hate it, I'm just sure I'll never reach for it. Car pool, elevator, small office safe but I wouldn't bother. An unsuccessful blind buy for me.
