Lyra

This is lovely and cozy and buttery. Longevity and sillage are 8/10. I got this for like $20/1 ounce bottle on eBay. Blind buy like most of my purchases. I've only ever had one problem ordering from eBay, a fake Tom Ford and I got my $ back. I order perfumes from eBay all the time. I know people are scared to use eBay but just check the rep of the seller first. Anyway, back to this stunner. It's lemony and creamy. Powdery. I almost get a buttery orris note bit I don't think there's orris in the notes. Definitely amber n vanilla. All the notes I love are in this. I could see how someone could call this an "old lady smell" but IMHO, even if that's the case, I still love this. I haven't smelled Shalimar lately so I can't review on it's similaritoes. This will be getting a lot of wear from me. There's a strangeness at the first spray but let it dry down n it shines!! I really love this one. Edit: I finally figured out what this smells like at the opening before dry down. Lemon Pledge. But once it dries, wow. I just bought 2 backups, that's how much I love this!!

This is for sure like the love child of Emeraude and Shalimar. What it shares with both is the citrus overdose + linalool/rosewood note into a cuddly cloud of coumarin and vanillin and and amber accord. Additionally, there are wisps of Shalimar's leather here but, as other reviews have stated, this is much lighter. This also definitely has some of the greenness (oakmoss? maybe more of an herbal facet?) that I think distinguishes Emeraude from Shalimar. This is so beautiful and wearable! I note it's also before Roucel began his variations of the theme that became Musc Ravageur with Helmut Lang Cologne, Le Labo Labdanum, L de Lolita, etc. Perhaps a rehearsal for that sequence? I would say this does have a slightly more "vintage" aura than those. If pressed, I'd compare this most closely with Emeraude. If you love this idea/genre and find it for a bargain, snap it up!

Love the smell. It's indeed in the line of Emeraude and Shalimar. In Lyra the citrus makes the powder more fresh. Unfortunately i will have to spray generous because the longtivity and projection is moderate. But it's definitely a beautiful vintage and old fashioned powdery perfume. ♥️😊

Thankfully it's much more Emeraude than Shalimar except the powdery undertone has more of a sharp citrus note. Nothing burnt-rubbery about this at all. Lovely, really, incredibly easy to wear.

Intial rich citrus and floral notes dry down to a long-lasting spicy base. I love this sensual, warm fragrance. It's well-balanced and exotic.

I love this perfume when I owned it back in the 90's. If anyone knows where I can get it, please let me know. (other than ebay)

Sour & Sweet Rosewood. I dunno, but when i first applied it i got "Shalimar's" vibes somehow! it has that sweet tender rosewood with some sandalwood, and lemon. I get iris mingled with vanilla and some cedar. The colder the more transformation i get! it begun "Shalimar", then went quite sour with lemon, bergamot, and neroli, then after few minutes the tonka, vanilla, and cedar hit back with the mild woody sweetness & gone quite impressive adding amber to the scene. I'm not sure if i'm detecting any roses or jasmines. Quite impressive indeed. One of my friends in here in fragrantica told me that Alain Delon's fragrances are all mild except for "Iquitos", "Lyra 1", & "Lyra 2", and now i realized why he mentioned those blends. Beautiful blend indeed. Edit (27th Dec 2020) Today, i got back to my "Shalimar" sample that i bought from perfumed court and i realized that i'm still unaware what "Shalimar" is! i mean i sprayed it on and btw it's the vintage Shalimar but they didn't mention from which era so i assume it's from the 80s, but still i can't define what this blend is about! It's just too light mild sweet with a combination of notes that i barely can't define because of their weakness! So regarding my above statement that Lyra smells like Shalimar is (so far) false. Lyra is just an incredible powered up rosewood vanilla, & amber iris ylang rose combination. It's like a silky white thick cashmere with a touch of mild lemon, tonka, & musk. It combine both the 80s powerhouse and 90s clean yet sweet era. Remains one of the prettiest blends i have came across. Now regarding Shalimar, i need to find out what this blend is about! i am already searching for a decent vintage bottle that sums up the blend for me once and for all (70s or 80s vintage bottle) cause i can't keep up with the hype around it while i can't define or fetch a decent bottle.

This was not a love at first scent. First impressions left me markedly unimpressed, and I was certain there was no real way to write a review on Shalimar's blushing sister. Between Shalimar and Emeraude, Lyra does seem to squeeze into middle-child space. I suppose it was the challenge of putting forth this perfume in words, and subsequent skin tests, that has led me to a place of platonic love. I'm not sure the exact moment, but suddenly it seemed I finally embraced its softly coy demeanor. If ever there would be an ode to Iris perfume, this would be its solid competitor. A sensationally fine, downy powder envelops, and without awareness, calmness emerges. One does not even realize the juice sprayed is wet, there is so much talcum about, and having owned both Emeraude and Shalimar, it's difficult not to to jump to comparisons. But as we reach the heart, we are lifted weightlessly into a dry down that is utterly, and matronly ethereal. While the other two summon forth deeper animalic notes, sent aflight with the shadows of smoky incense, Lyra soars on vanilla wings with golden amber gilding. A lemony benzine flings open the blinds and allows the sun's luminosity to bathe those still sleeping. My baby's awake, rolls over and touches my face. As we gaze into each other, our bodies softened with sleep, the warm glow of sunlight-quenched love, so full of the day's promise, bastes our skin in honey hues. We can't help but smile at each other's fortune. In that moment, so perfectly fetched, we find inner peace. That is what Lyra represents to me. Serene nothingness, spent securely with the ones you love, and the sweetness of simplicity.

This fragrance cannot be described without making references to Shalimar. They are like sisters, and most fragranticans know the scent of Shalimar, which makes it a little more easy to put this one in words. Lyra is the powdery, sweeter little sister of Shalimar. By powder, I mean the old sophisticated expensive make up powder. Smells very chique. The vanilla is a little more prominent, but the drydown is more of sweet wood. Don't get me wrong, it's in a 'exotic-sunny-flower' kind of way sweet, not candy like. The opening is a little sharp and medicinal, and triggered my seasons allergies. Oh well, it is more of a past-summer / sunny autumn type of scent. The vanilla in here is ice cream like, very soft and yummy. A pinch of spices comes up from the skin and a powdery coating with sunny, warm woods make a super blend. The whole body may seem for some a little too vintage, but I, who is not that into vintages, really like this one. Very strong as well, only one spray is needed to go with a normal sillage and lasts for ages. Other fragrances that don't smell alike, but share the vibe are: Dior Dune (warm sand), Elie Saab le Parfum (summer evening) and even the 'antique' edge of John Galliano.

14. november 2014 The review is for 1 spray wrist test from the vintage 30ml spray bottle of EDT, that has never been opened before. I wonder why noone has ever compared this perfume to the great classic - "Shalimar"??!! To me it smells very much alike, maybe bit fresher, just like the legere version (nothing light in projection in here however) or vanilla version of Shalimar. This is a sandal-bergamot bomb, opens up with a hint of vanilla and neroli, spiced up with a bergamot and citrus accors, and later turns into a more vanilla-iris combo, but ends up as a Shalimar dupe: strong powdery, very "french" as they would all it, scent. One tiney spray has a huge projection and great lasting power. I also own a 15ml parfum bottle of it, and the parfum is more vanillic, but much smoother and doesn ́t turn so powdery on me (still it has that powder smell in it). Stays on quite sweet and lushy, more rose in there, than in EDT. I rrally prefer the parfum to the EDT, but i enjoy the EDT as well, since i can ́t wear Shalimar at all but Lyra is quite wearable on me. I own all 3 Lyras and IMO the very first one is the classiest of them all.

Few perfumes get my approval at the first spritz, but this lovely mix of spiciness with the roundness of the vanilla coming through from start makes me sink back in absolute comfort. I generally don't like citrusy perfumes, but on me, the bergamot and jasmine are the strongest of the top and middle notes. The lemon is in there but only to influence the other scents. As the perfume rests and lands, the sweet basenotes of vanilla, tonka bean, musk and sandalwood become oh so clear. I was lucky to find it at a second hand store for a cheap penny. Lucky thing some shopkeepers just don't know what's good...

Really lovely. Yes, Lyra has a lot in common with Shalimar, which I love. But it is lighter, fresher, almost a Shalimar Sport. A reviewer on Basenotes commented that the Lyra formula was tweaked by Maurice Roucel to create Musc Ravageur. Lyra never really caught on, but Musc Ravageur became a hit.....Hmmmmmm.......

Lyra is a pretty, feminine spicy amber fragrance that dries down to a powdery spice. It performs lovely and wears very easy. It’s slight beastie so 1-2 sprays not so indirectly will cover you nicely thru day. Pleased with this blind buy☺️

Definite Shalimar vibe. I sprayed too much so for a few minutes it smelled like petroleum and tire. But over time, that smell dissipated, and I get leathery slightly smoky vanilla. Did not get citrus opening notes, and I am not sure I get floral. The smoky leathery note is still dominant and am hoping the vanilla shines through more prominently. Update: 08/18/2023. I layered with soft slightly sweet vanilla, and the combination works so well.

I now have the edt and 30mls of the parfume extrait.the edp remains elusive.i prefer Lyra to shalimar although i have loved shalimar since i was 9 years old.the leather citrus and civet are not there.it is a strong perfume the edt lasts for hours but it has a gentle core powdery very special.any shalimar lover will be intrigued by this perfume although it is not a cheap subsitute more like a vintage shalimar edp.it took me years to rediscover it.i tested it maybe 16 years ago from a sample someone found thrown out in the dock area in my home town and i found it again through fragrantica.sentimental value.if you try it you wont regret,its a shadowy classic.

My daughters name is Lyra and I have already gone through a full bottle of Lyra 3. This is actually very similar to Lyra 3, only 3 has a fresher/aquatic aspect to it. Lyra has a smokiness to it that makes it unique. I got this in a lot of 4 minis (which was way cheaper per ml than a full bottle). One for me, one for my Mum and I might save the other two for my daughter if they last that long!

I still have an old bottle from an exchange with my aunt. I don't love it but I don't hate it too, I never put it on now. It's an elegant, french perfume. It's a rather strong perfume. Citrus prevails in my opinion and it's too much present, giving a 'sour' impression. Perfume lasts long.

To me this one is among the best female fragrances I know. Lots of character (as with every AD scent). Lingering for long hours on the skin or clothes of your loved one. Fresh, feminine, floral. A classic!

I had a bottle of this when it was first released and I loved it. Too bad it's gone now. I found it warm and soft, very romantic, but certainly not heavy; you could definitely wear it in summer.
