Albert Nipon

I find this too be quite an animalic oriental. I do pick up hints of cinnabar, opium and some utlra skanky jasmine/musk. It's slightly boozey; It's almost like a cognac or campari and coke. It reminds me of Paris in the fall for some reason. It's very 80's; a very heady juice like the comtemporaries of its time. It eventually mellows out into a mossy, woody, musky skinscent; blending well with ones own personal secretions magnifiques. I think it's sexy and daring and not for the faint at heart. This one will turn heads and some noses for better or worse. The oak moss is detectable too. So it has a chypre feel no doubt. I wear this around the house and sometimes when I'm feeling loud and dramtatic, to the clubs. For an intense night of debauchery I layer this with an Rasasi's Amber Oud or an amber oil by Nemat(Liquid Amber or Musk Amber.) At home, when I'm feeling in need of comfort and pampering(to read a book in a most lux manner or to nuzzle up with a special someone in bed; and not just on my pulse points...) I layer this with an edp of choice(DK Gold or Pacificas Spanish Amber) it tends to make the floral accord, in this case the jasmine, creamy, soft and like cashmere. Layering also brings out this lucious saffron accord in Nipon, which I love, love love. *This review is for both the Vintage Parfum and the Vintage Eau de Toilette. The parfum really is just a more intense concentration of the edt. There's not a real difference between them other than what I mentioned.

Dark brown juices nearly always offer an instantaneous love for me, and AN Albert Nipon is no exception. Lovers of Youth Dew, Ultima, Mink & Pearls, and Herbessence should easily enjoy this skankfest, with the wonderfully anachronistic, demure bow. If this is your first foray into the vintage chyprientals, be warned: you must adore balsamic resins, large doses of savory and warm spices, big whiffs of animal musks, and bitter, bitter oakmoss. Expect something incredibly rich, but not at all sweet. I think this is seasonless and can be worn day or night, but if I wear this at night, I'm gonna choke those around me by spraying to my heart's content. Do I need this, AND Youth Dew in my collection? Absolutely not. Do I REQUIRE more bottles, now that I've had a taste via the dredges of a dusty, lidless, timeworn bargain obtained on Ebay? Yes. I think I've even seen this in a drugstore near me, I'm going to have to go buy up everything they have left, if some other smart local person with excellent taste hasn't beaten me to it!

The Short: I ♥ Albert Nipon. This is sultry sweet. The Long: I love this deep rich liquor base. Gorgeous. Dark wood, spice rich, floral, and oak moss dry. A touch of Rose and Carnation to lighten it. The citrus top is short but, my bottle is also vintage-1980s so, I am pleased it still has the top note. This is a treasure. The dry down on this is intoxicating. It ends up close to the skin, powdery, and softly sweet. Lasts 12+ hours. I especially love it in winter and fall under my coat. The warmth blooms this fragrance and I can smell it and enjoy it. This is pre-2000s perfumery; a spicy floral woody potion. Beautifully blended and a quality product. Note: [If you don't like this type of scent in general, do not buy this.] Some examples are Youth Dew, Cinnabar, Ciara, Anne Klein II, Tabu. This is not the same scent but, it would be easily sorted onto the same shelf.

This is gorgeous. I have a small vintage (1980's) bottle of the parfum. Always one of my favourites. Quite a bit more subtle and softer than Opium and Cinnabar, both popular at the time, it's cozy, warm and comforting. Delicious drydown. I only wear it in winter and fall, so in love with this. Not for lovers of fruity, syrupy numbers, that's for sure ;)

@ Phantomias ... I don't get that "medicinal" note at all. Everything about this is delicious, just not as outspoken or powerful as Opium and Cinnabar. I do find Cinnabar a tiny bit sweeter than Opium though. But Nipon is a treasure. I just bought 1/4 oz. of perfume on eBay, never opened.
