The Libertine

The first associations I have are strong, dark licorice and anise. I can see how this can bring up memories of absinth or ouzo or pastis or any other anise drink. After a few moments the cardamom, cashmere and inscence show up and the fragrance gets a bit calmer and more intimate in a way. I really like, that even at its calmest and cuddliest, the Libertine still maintains the edge of its dark licorice and incense. I love balmy and smokey fragrances and am very cautious when it comes to gourmands, since I often find them to be to bright and sweet for me and my nose. This perfume however, showcases dark, grown up candy framed by inscense, cardamom and that beautiful cashmere. It is very wearable for me and I love it!

I love it - I went looking for a licorice fragrance. This oil comes in 3 phases... first, the distinct black licorice. Then an hour or so later, a warm honeyed smell, perhaps the cashmeran/cardamom/incense. And then comes this salty brine smell, I’m guessing the ambroxan. So it’s a very interesting fragrance with chapters, and I believe the name is fitting, and recalls both the work of Marquis de Sade and the song Libertine by Patrick Wolf. Sophisticated and unique.

Incredibly sexy. Opens with intense licorice notes, like ripping open a paper bag of scotty dogs, but once it dries it's grounded with an intimate, sensual aura from the cashmere and incense. Masculine, but with character. I can't help but be obsessed.

Very attractive perfume. Strong licorice notes that veer into star anise. Reminds me of those little spice packages that go into pho. A slightly masculine take on a gourmand.

The only licorice fragrance I have used is Brin de Reglisse from Hermessence, which I found weird and wonderful. I feel the same way towards Libertine. This is a wonderful statement fragrance. The licorice in this is warm and sweet without being cloying. On me it is a fairly solid licorice fragrance. Its dry down is licorice. I don't smell anything else but I do not have the most discerning nose.

The licorice note is EXTREME at first. oh my god. pure licorice for like 3 feet. but after 15 minutes it fades into a more ambient scent. more skin-like but sweet. if you combine it with their tea layering note you will smell like a lush.

It smells like the drink ouzo and /or absinthe, and it reminds me some of the candies. And maybe some of the menthol scented cosmetics. It is a really pleasant scent. After a 20 minutes it smells like clean, freshly washed dresses.

Got this as an extra sample. I do not like it at all. It's too masculine and reminds me of the cologne my father used to wear before my mother made him stop due to it aggravating her asthma. I'm not one for candy-type perfumes anyway and the licorice definitely hits you from the moment you open the bottle.

Eau de Indian restaurant. I used to work at an Indian restaurant as a hostess where I spent my days breathing in glorious temple incense and munching endlessly on the candied fennel seeds that were meant for the guests. I hated working there, but I loved the smells and tastes! So I’m happy to have access to the intoxicating smells of fennel and incense without having to do the work. Nostalgia aside I think this is a really lovely scent to wear, pretty gender nonspecific, and just addictive. How you feel about it will probably depend on how you interpret licorice. My mind goes to yummy candied fennel seeds.
