it's such a fresh floral. it smells like walking through a rose garden as someone cuts off the roses to hand them to you. very pretty and balanced.

CreepyKid's review below is spot-on when he says this smells like 90s shampoo; it is a tidy-yet-comforting scent that is reminiscent of one's best friend's parents' house circa 2002. It feels like a modernized, gentler version of an old-school green floral like Cabotine Grès. The longevity and projection is in step with most others from Alkemia -- not the strongest, but pretty decent considering it's an oil. Folks seeking a more straightforward rose might be disappointed with The Lover Tells of the Rose, as the green aspect outweighs the floral. Conversely, however, people that normally find rose cloying and stuffy will be pleasantly surprised by this one. Would recommend for situations where you want a frag that's inoffensive yet distinct.

I've had a sample of The Lover Tells Of The Rose for about two months now and after wearing it a few times I've come to the conclusion that it smells like the original Clairol Herbal Essences rose hip shampoo from the 90s/early 00s I used in high school. It's a fresh clean and wet rose with some herbaceous undertones and dewy notes, that said I don't exactly want to walk around smelling like vintage hair products. The perfume is great as far as it's longevity and everything else is concerned, it's just that first few hours of smelling like shampoo isn't my thing being a guy. After a few hours it turns into a sweet powdery rose that's really enjoyable but at that point it's a skin scent. I may buy a full size someday just for the nostalgia and novelty.

I don’t think the perfumer divulges the exact notes but this smells like a chypre. The rose is bold in the opening and is clear throughout but after the drydown I get something like oakmoss or whatever it is that makes a chypre smell a little earthy. My husband said it smelled like “his Greek aunt at a funeral.” It definitely has an old lady vibe but I like it. I wear it just for me, whether he’s a fan or not. It works in the spring and summer but I think it might also be great in the winter. So far I’ve worn it in the daytime while gardening, but I can see it as a night scent too. It’s so natural smelling I like that it complements my being outside interacting with plants.

i love this one- makes me think of spring. it's a spicy green rose, as it dries down you get a lot more of the tea notes as well as something super powdery. given the fragrance notes it is exactly what i had expected and i respect her for that

Beautiful, green, rose smell. This doesn’t just smell like the flower, but the whole rose bush. It opens very green and settles to a lovely soft, pure, rose smell.

This opens as a wonderfully fresh, green, rose. More powdery on dry down. One of my faves from Alkemia.

Out of all of the Alkemia fragrances I tried, this one was my favorite. When you first apply it, it is a refreshingly clean and addicting rose scent. The first thing you'll catch are the green notes; it's as if you have an entire rose bush on your wrist. This immediate scent is why I like it a lot, but unfortunately, the green notes fade quickly and I was left with a sort of vintage and dusty rose scent. I wish that the freshness of the fragrance stook around, cause the lasting scent is far too mature for me.

I found this to be a very accessible, friendly floral fragrance. Unfortunately my thoughts are, 'nothing special'. I've smelled lots of perfumes similar to this one before, although it's beautiful, and it dries down to something more powdery than I'd like. Reminds me of my mother's bathroom; rose scented talcum powder, lemon verbena lotion, room freshening spray that's vaguely green and floral.

Initially green and fresh, quickly drying down to a powdery, papery, old ladyish rose. it evoked memories of those little rose shaped soaps my mom's friends had in their bathrooms in the 80s. pretty easy to wear, kinda boring. not my favorite.

i'm not sure if there's something up with my sample but i don't get these notes at all. i wore it for the first time today and it's powdery in a baby wipe-y way. i really get nothing interesting, although a friend did compliment me on it. i got it a week ago so i'll see if it just needs to macerate and come back to it in a few months. but as of now i'm pretty disappointed :(

Which is to say: the weirdos who get it, get it. And those who don’t, don’t.

Ooooh this is such a lovely rose! Bought the EDP after having samples. I wish the green notes lasted longer but it does dry down to a yummy rose faintly powdery. I’m finding it even nicer in this hot weather. I’ve tried two Marly roses and both are nice but do not compare. Annick Goutal rose absolue is also lovely in a sweeter way. This is fresh and also deep. Glorious.

In the bottle, it's lovely fresh greens and delicate rose with an edge of lemon verbena. After it dries the lemon verbena disappears and I can almost smell a bit of warm but very gentle spice, until about 20 minutes later when the whole thing turns into a powdery floral on my skin with very little of the original freshness remaining. Not unpleasant but sadly not for me.

This smells EXACTLY like a flower shop, or a flower arrangement for a wedding/funeral. Definitely a very authentic smell but not one I’d wanna wear.
