Orris Wakan

due to its refined scent, I have waited until the good weather to start enjoying this Omani gem. I bought the box of six Amouage attars at Harrods last December, along with Leather Sadah, the exclusive Harrods attar. I had never had an attar, and I imagined a fragrance that would fill the rooms I passed through. In no case has it been so. I guess I had to understand what the concept of an attar is, it's not about invading everything, but about enjoying it from intimacy. Enjoy the fragrance as if it were the stele of our skin. Orris Wakan is beautifully intimate. It's for staying at home and enjoying a movie and a bottle of wine. It's for when you know that only your partner will enjoy your scent... Amouage has other perfumes that you can apply and leave the party, but for me, Orris Wakan is not for that, but for when you come home and you know the party starts inside

This is so simple yet so divine. Such an ethereal and heavenly scent of orris. Orris Wakan is my 2nd favorite next to Vanilla Barka (I mean, come on lol)... but this deserves all the praise. It sits so perfectly on skin and never gets animalic, which I think orris dominated scents have a tendency of doing. I feel a clean reset occurring in my aura when I wear this.

Bitter sweet orris root scent with a touch of sandal woody and musk. Simple but very enjoyable and very different from all of the attars I came across. I fall in love with this one, try it and you may fall for it too.

The weirdest attar I've ever experienced. It lacks the DNA of an attar, Amouage, or even an oriental perfume at the same time, but it smells lovely. If you love iris, this is for you.

I too call 'meh' on this. For a supposedly 'Arabian' perfume brand to re-release attars, and for the attars to smell like this, it's a disappointment. That's not to say that this doesn't smell nice, because it does, but there is NOTHING remotely Amouage about this. I remember being in the Amouage store/factory in Muscat, and asking the staff about the attars (I have about 2 or 3 on my list at that stage), and for them to tell me that were discontinued, never to come back, was disappointing. But for them to change their minds on the attars, and release attars like THIS, is even more disappointing. That Amouage jumped the shark and became a westernised brand ignoring their roots is clear, but to have attars come out, under the Amouage name, and for them to be like this, is quite sad. Disappointing and sad. The fact that attars like Bahjar, Asrar and Al Mas are discontinued, and yet THIS one is being sold, is, well, it's ridiculous.

I call "meh" on this. To me, it smells like a stripped down version of the violet/ionone/sandalwood accord in Santal 33. The sandalwood here definitely smells more sandalwoody and oily than the Le Labo, to be fair. It also only has the faintest hint of the vegetal/weird dill note in the Le Labo too...which actually makes that scent far more interesting. It's definitely a wearable skin scent--as in it kind of evokes the smell of slightly sour, musky, idealized skin--but not distinct enough to warrant the price!

0.7ml vial from the official sample set, via the Harrods website. Powdery white floral with earthy, vegetal undertones and a little soapiness. On its own, this one just isn’t for me at all. I hope to find some context where I can layer it with something else. I’ll keep playing with it.

Expectations are high with an Amouage attar. With a long history of excellent compositions including homage and tribute, the prospect of new Attars is intriguing. What do I want out of an attar? A complex tobacco, rose, oud or incense. Something intimate but with personality. Things that Amouage have excelled at in the past. Amouage have used perfumers like Dominique Ropien (responsible for the night and promise), and Julien Rasquinet who created the moon. Putting together these great noses with a brand like Amouage, you would possibly expect something more rich and potent than what we have received in this attar line. Overall the new set is pretty tame in comparison to Attars of old. Possibly made for greater audience acceptance or maybe regulations prevented some ingredients. However. There are some gems. And this is one of them. Orris butter, Orris butter and more orris butter. Well rounded, warm and yet bright and very woody. Amazingly I swear i smell fig later on - a very multi faceted scent and unexpected. Terrific quality and beautifully wearable. This one is stellar work. Bravo.

Very wearable, easily likeable, and perhaps the lightest offering from the set, profile wise. Feminine leaning and beautifully smooth. Soft and creamy from the sandalwood and orris, with a sweet powderiness that almost feels nuanced with some sort of indolic floral that give the attar plenty of lift and a pinch of green-faceted "freshness" in a sense. Wonderful creation, but perhaps not what one expects from an attar.

Very natural yet slightly musky orris, very linear but beautifully clean even if a bit earthy. Only worth it for iris lovers in my opinion, as it's done in a generic western style that's more fitting for a spray bottle. Source: 0.7ml Official Sample Date of Purchase: October 20th, 2024

Powdery orris with something a bit animalic.. is it indol jasmine or ambergris, i am not really sure. It’s more of skin scent.. I think I like it!!

Only tested this on a blotter, but my first impression is raw carrot, slightly bitter.
