L'Eau Scandaleuse

My experience with this is different from most here. Opens with a BLAST of artemisia (the brand lists davana, but it smells like regular artemisia to me), its bitter-green effect amplified by a bit of cypriol. Then there’s a smooth, just slightly pungent leather note, and yes, the tuberose. She’s creamy, she’s realistic, she gives the perfume a lovely lift. There is a peach-oakmoss accord here that accounts for the comparisons to Mitsouko. But it doesn’t have the smokiness of Mitsouko, and the oakmoss is less strong. L’Eau Scandaleuse is greener, more bitter, more animalic than the Guerlain grande dame. The other perfume it reminds me of a little is Naomi Goodsir’s Nuit de Bakélite, with the artemisia-tuberose combo. But this goes in a different direction with the other notes and is also much more wearable. An hour in, L’Eau Scandaleuse becomes mostly peachy tuberose with beautiful leather underneath, but there are still those hints of green bitterness that make the perfume so unique and addictive.

tuberose and leather, hmm....At first I thought it's gonna be a "beauty and beast" kind of floral-animalic perfume, but it's not what I imagined. The opening tuberose blast like firework to your face, possibly sweetened by fruity notes, along with subtle inky tone. But this is not a floral perfume, it quickly transition into a dry, slightly salty leather base. If the it's the flower that got you in, the leather is what make you stay. Sometimes I can perceive a charred cacao or even chocolate edge in the leather. Although the castoreum is listed, luckily it doesn't muddle things up. As time goes by it only makes the leather richer and thicker, it almost developed a gourmand aspect with tuberose. Overall, a perfume worth having.

Such a fierce, elegant perfume! When dabbed from a sampler this has a quite strong tuberose, but when sprayed from my bottle the tuberose is more a background feel and the main impression is a bitter leather - I completely get the references to the smell of a (concept of a ) painter's studio - turpentine/white spirits, oil paints, leather seating. From some angles it's slightly horse-y, as in the smell of stables, including the smell of dry soil or turf. My partner loves this on me; for my part, I'd enjoy it more if I could (also) detect the sweetish tuberose that comes through in the sample.

This is so gorgeous! I received a sample pack of the four current AL offerings and I'm impressed with all of them... I've always wanted to like Cabochard but have never managed to keep a bottle for more than 6 months. L'Eau Scandaleuse, on the other hand, is everything I hoped for Cabochard but could never find. To me, L'Eau Scandaleuse is a waxy leather with gorgeous fatty aspects from the tuberose and grounding earthy notes of oakmoss. After smelling this I don't feel compelled to search for vintage chypres anymore. If you're a fan of vintage fragrances I recommend trying this whole line.

This was a must try for me after reading Kafka's review and it was love at first sniff for me. I have no idea why this is isn't a more popular fragrance - it's absolutely amazing. Opening with a heady wiff of white flowers, it starts deepening over time into a spicy, supple leather with just a touch of floral, nectared sweetness to offset the richness of the dark notes. Love it! While I can see a man wearing this confidently for sure, to me it reads like leather pencil skirts and sheer lace blouses: undeniably classically feminine, undeniably seductive and more than a little provocative.

I have a soft spot for animalic chypres, so take this with a grain of salt, but this is genuinely very good. Think Bandit's structure: prominent artemisia and castoreum, then add a green, slightly bitter tuberose on top. That's roughly what L'eau Scandaleuse smells like. If you usually dislike tuberose, this might still be worth trying (the castoreum keeps it dry and unisex rather than floral-sweet, and gives it a vintage feel). Given how much perfume prices have jumped in the last few years, it's also a fair deal for what you're getting.

WOW!! im not a fan of Tuberose! but this blend makes me love it! the tuberose leather with beaches, ylan ylang, lemon, and animalic notes! quite interesting and very charming from the first sniff. It might go feminine from first sniff but turns a bit masculine with the animalic ylan ylang note as later it turns both ways (feminine-masculine) back to back each and every second i sniff my arm. Very captivating and requires sampling.

a very pleasant tuberose. Not annoying but resilient. Good longevity and sillage. The smoke is very pleasant as it is not intrusive and does not last long, it would have been nice if it lasted longer. I do not feel the leather and the animalic note. 9/10 A male tuberose.

marvelous. actually not a leather and tuberose perfume but to me it's more a smoky perfume with tuberose. really different. a different tuberose. the note of peach is also noteworthy. excellent performance. 9/10

A classic floral Chypre here, when you see Tuberose, Castoreum and leather listed in the notes you should hold on to your hats and this is precisely what this fragrance makes you do. The opening is a blinding stinky musk which emanates at the beginning but soon vanishes into a sweeter floral tuberose. This then dirties, offering up some very special, floral qualities for folks who love that sort of thing. The middle section is a stunning leathery, tuberose with hints of the animal, I haven't experienced the base properly yet as it hasn't dried all the way down but speaking from experience of this kind of scent it will last FOREVER! When it finally does settle right back I predict any floral sweetness will dissipate leaving behind a musky castoreum. Brilliant, classical stuff again, just not something I would wear, who knows maybe one day I will change my mind?

L’eau Scandaleuse has a vintage vibe, a full assault tuberose bomb. Slightly indolic in the opening before turning to equal amounts leather and tuberose in the middle. A few drops lasted for hours. In the right hands and using quality ingredients, I can understand the appeal with this particular combination of heavy, dirty notes. It’s not my style but I respect it and will not be casting a down vote. If my review or any of the reviews below sound appealing, give it a spin. This is not a fragrance for the shy or inexperienced.

I am tired, so I’ll keep it short and say - this is a weird one. Reminds me of Boadicea the Victorious’s Complex, but with some added dark peach notes. A gourmand agrestic. Definitely has the vintage vibe, as one reviewer noted below. I hadn’t read any reviews before spraying my sample, and my first thought was “smells vintage, have I smelled this before?” Totally weird. Not floral on my skin. Not bad, just not the usual. I like it. Would I buy it? Dunno. Time will tell.

A 'classical' floral-leather-cyphre in the vein of Bandit, Knize Golden and even Rien. I tested it side by side with Knize Golden and they are strikingly similar. Eau Scandaleuse is perhaps a little bit more floral in the beginning but the dry-down is the same on my skin. I like Knize Golden, in fact it is one of my favorite fragrances. But I had hoped Eau Scandaleuse would be something original.

L’Eau Scandaleuse by Anatole Lebreton is pure BDSM. A commanding, bitter camphorous undertone sets the tone, as fatal tuberose sprawls across a leather bed. A boudoir peach softens the tension, while an old-school animalic touch lingers, evoking raw sensuality and control.

Great leather. Accomplished composition. I don't get as much tuberose as in Adjatay for exemple, this is all about leather. As much as I like some oumph in my leather, this is more than I can take. Fabulous stuff, I just can't wear it.

Love the opening. A nice dirty leather with some prominent castoreum. It doesn't hang around for long though, the drydown leaves you with a clean soft fruity floral. With the name I was expecting a bit more scandal.

The raters are insane on this one. Why so many dislikes? This is high class fragrance.

Some suggested L'Eau Scandaleuse might be a suitable alternative for the long-discontinued Histoires de Parfums "Tubereuse 3 Animale." I never experienced "Tubereuse 3 Animale," so I cannot make any comparison. I wanted a tuberose-centric perfume totally unlike any other tuberose fragrance I recently tried. And I've recently tried around two dozen. To my nose, many of the most popular tuberose fragrances are iterations of Carnal Flower or Fracas. I find many tuberose fragrances bitter, wet, sharp, indolic and very very GREEN (something I dislike). As an aside, one of the ONLY tuberose fragrances I own (and love) without the green, water, sappiness is Amouage "Love Tuberose." Creamy, thick, dense and semi-sweet. L'Eau Scandaleuse opens with tuberose, some leathery notes and VERY noticeable castoreum. This fragrance is not sour but it certainly isn't sweet. The perfume is an animalic, dark, brooding and semi-dry tuberose flower (more blooms versus the entire plant). In short time, the tuberose notes become more noticeable and stronger. The initial notes move into the background somewhat. The emergence of artemisia and nagarmotha add a slightly mentholated but non-camphorous accord to the fragrance. This phase of the perfume's performance is a very welcome change from the usual "moth ball" aroma of many tuberose-centric fragrances. Wears as a rather indolic tuberose fragrance with a bit of ylang-ylang on a base of oak moss. I can easily see either a man, or woman wearing and loving this fragrance. Fragrance is okay but definitely not a like, or a love.

this is an old-fashioned fruity chypre with some notes I personally find foul. it smells of purple grape kool-aid and waxy, makeup-y iris and violet. underneath there’s a soft growl of leather, oakmoss, and animalic castoreum, just like Jolie Madame or Bandit or the original Miss Dior. Over time this leather base gets louder and comes to predominate, landing in a soft, buttery, vintage-style iris-leather place with a touch of peachy warmth. I think I get the idea with Anatole Lebreton now — he goes for bold, borderline-offensive compositions that push the limits. Bois Lumiere is extreme honey, Racine Carree is extreme iris, and Eau Scandaleuse is an extreme violet leather. now, if you are a violet-leather person — if you like that juxtaposition of daintiness and swagger, that bratty-punk-princess vibe — then you owe it to yourself to find some vintage Jolie Madame. L’Eau Scandaleuse is basically a blockier, louder, cruder version of the same thing.

Scandalous in the early hours between indole, green tuberose, castoreum, fruity and juicy leather of ylang and raw peach. Oak moss giving way to more unisex puffs of mugwort and cypriol. It approaches rapacious, primitive, feminine, then more comfortable, subtle but still narcotic, insolent with the peach note that accompanies and supports the entire composition for about 20 hours. I don't like fruit in general and I find it very femme fatal and my skin amplifies the peach note a lot. If you love the latter it is worth trying.

Wow. What an intense opening: it's a tuberose explosion!! With heavy leather, and maybe a touch of ylang-ylang and peach, far in the background. At this point it's very 'feminine', and VERY over-powering (to my nose). I like tuberose, but this is just too much! As it dries down, it really starts to mellows: the tuberose chills out, and becomes an equal with the leather. Further along, I definitely smell something...pine-y?!...is that cypriol oil?...and I can sense the mossy-ness in the background. It's definitely done an about-face, and is now decidedly 'masculine'! Better balanced though, and far more wearable. What a unique fragrance--it's definitely unlike anything else I have tried! At no point do I get bergamot, but I think that a touch of that brightness would have been a benefit. Overall, definitely NOT blind-buy safe, and I wouldn't recommend it for the office! In fact, I have a really hard time figuring out the ideal time/situation for this fragrance...I'd say it's more an evening scent rather than a daytime scent. As a side note, I enjoyed it a LOT more when I rubbed my lightly-floral-scented moisturiser over it; it muted the smell a bit, and became a lot more pleasurable to my nose. Still, what an interesting scent to try!

A very dirty tuberose scent. The leather on this is made earthy and dry from the addition of the artemisia and a very small bit of oak moss. Not for the faint of heart indeed! Be careful with over application. I was initially impressed with it when I put a small amount of the sample on my arm, but when I applied a major portion of the sample over my chest and both arms I realized my mistake. The tuberose is muddied but very powerful. I have to admit that I'm not a fan of tuberose and so am probably biased against reviewing such a fragrance, but I think the problem lies more with the base notes. They're odd and unpleasant. There's no balancing sweetness to take the edge off. I found it to be a scrubber for me, but it's a good attempt to try to make a combination of chypre and leather.

Unfortunately for me a disappointment. White flowers, intense cosmetic face cream or unscented hairspray on a background of plastic undertones and cocoa. As a whole, it feels slightly suffocating with a sharp aftertaste of chemistry on the palate, I don't understand why the scent manifests itself this way. I definitely don't smell anything scandalous, not even a hint of leather, woodiness or anything dense, sensual. I expected more extravagance, animality, this is "safe" and tries to hide its retro vibe. In music, I would liken it to a high violin tone or an older person who no longer has that drive. It lacks depth and bass.

A floral and fruity leather fragrance. I can smell tuberose, a strong leather with a touch of peach. Unisex. Dark, bold, more for fall and winter. The sillage and longevity are excellent. It is a piece of art, like a painting. I cannot wear it. Too animalic, but well, it is very original & intriguing. 4/10

to me, this is just kinda nasty without reprieve. made acrid from the smoke and leather, and the floral and fruit notes smell soapy at best. overwhelming, a little nauseating. probably will not try to wear this again.

It's like an indolic tuberose idk it's not working for me. I'm smelling that ylang ylang and peach combo again, but with a very earthy tuberose.

I received a sample of this today and I'm absolutely amazed and astounded at how beautiful it is. What a perfume. It's opening is reminiscent of musc kublai Khan but it's much more complex....it has an animal leather opening quickly followed by a brief "headshotp" aroma which settles into a massive old school chypreand huge tuberose! I was so excited that I've just had to so a quick review for anyone out there thinking of sending for this as Anatole Lebreton does an amazing deal on FOUR samples for 6.50 euros. I've yet to try the other three but at this quality I think I may be like the previous blogger and get all of them. Truly truly beautiful.....enormous silage and I will let you know on longevity In a day or so. The calibrate of this is very high....not for the faint hearted but have been wearing it now for over six hours and it's fabulous.....well crafted animal tuberose with many layers and so far a deep ambery base.....thank you to Kafkaesque for her amazing review of all of these.

I’m on my second bottle of Scandaleuse and my second review. This is one of the very few perfumes that I get complimented on, which probably says more about me but I don’t mean it to. People notice this and say Wow what are you wearing? It’s gorgeous!! Now I have lots of samples and a fair few bottles which I wear at different times but LS is one that racks up more mentions and so it should. It’s stunning! It’s still as buttery and beautiful and sumptuous and warm as it was. Anatole Lebreton is a very talented man and all his perfumes are very good - he doesn’t sell out ever and keeps his integrity as a master perfumer and a person. His perfume is beautifully wrapped in gorgeous bottles in a big silky brown box. There’s a handwritten card and samples. Wonderful. This is a class perfume, it’s not expensive for what it is and if you want a high end Tuberose which is rich and warm on a leathery Castoreum base ten this is it! A masterpiece!

This is by far the most animalic, most dirty tuberose scent I’ve ever smelled in my life. I’m somewhere between nausea and shock. The synthetic castoreum note is a love-it-or-hate-it thing for me, and I think this one’s heading toward hate. I used to call Salome dirty, but next to this, it smells as clean as a bedsheet. That said, I also had a lot of fun: it was a fascinating olfactory experience. I tend to be very selective about cypriol oil, and it's quite prominent in this as well. The opening reminds me of the current Mitsouko EDP because it has that same inedible peach mixed with oakmoss and the beginning stages of the darker notes that are yet to come. But it changes quickly to a soft buttery floral with traces of leather. Along with Incarnata, and Cornaline, Anatole Lebreton has created quite a trio of sophisticated feminine perfumes. Great niche alternatives to what girls are buying at Sephora and Macy’s and very much in the same category of “next level” as Vero Kern and Mandy Aftel. If that sounds good to anyone, I would recommend ordering a discovery set.

I love tuberose and LOOOVE leather, but can rarely love both in a single perfume; it's like the Battle of Titans ending in favour of leather usually because leather has many powerful allies (in this case huge castoreum note, oakmoss and artemisia). This kind of combination usually makes tuberose smell burnt/plastic/artificial and in general - deformed. Nevertheless, I can appreciate the artistry of such compositions (had Nitchevo, still have Jolie Madame and Tubereuse 1), but with time I get tired - too rough to wear these babies all day long...

This opens up with a promising dirty tuberose, oily, languorous, and eyebrow-raising, naughty even. I also discern medicinal, camphorous undertones similar to that of Tuberose Criminelle. Soon thereafter, I am reminded of Bal a Versailles and the scent of that starchy cotton that would be stuffed into a bottle of Flintstones vitamins. This dissipates into a more chalky, glue-y, pasty, feel—perhaps the cypriol, and an animalic knock-your-kickers off leather. It does eventually mellow into a more polite floral leather and mossy woods. Nice stuff!

Because of the tuberose I really wasnt that interested in trying L'eau Scandaleuse. But then I fell for Incarnata and Cornaline. And as I already had a small sample of this... And I was so intrigued by this scent. Beautiful and smelled so familiar! Mitsouko was my signature years ago and I always have a bottle of the EdT. This makes me think of my first Mitsouko in the small circleshaped bottle. But this time dressed in the softest leather. Absolutely stunning!

Mature and loud, with a people-pleasing lasting power and just the right amount of screechiness to be considered a good investment. Not my scent at all.

Does no one else find this to be a more user-friendly version of Francesca Bianchu’s Luxe Calme Volupte? The DNA is almost identical.

Up close on skin I can't get past the fact it smells like the bike section of Halfords.
