Tabaquero

Fenugreek, licorice, immortelle, tobacco and rum all clearly recognizable, yet wonderfully blended. I would also add hints like orange or cherry dry liqueur on my skin. Very nice, rounded and balanced sweetness of the scent, as if you were rolling it on your tongue. The tobacco is found in a wet light brown form and more like chewing than for smoking, interesting part is presence of tobacco without hints of smoke or ash. Pleasant for ladies too. Unfortunately, the sillage falls quickly to skin scent for me. This is not a fragrance for the masses or a modern piece that would like to hit some fresh tones (winking at you Dee April Perfume), it is nobility with vintage in a good sense, here much more neat and without an excess of additional herbs. Simply classic. Porsche 365 on the French Riviera, but heading up to the vineyards of Provence. I haven't had the honor of trying all the pieces from AL yet, I was slowly afraid that I would give up on AL, but this fragrance is really good.

Tabaquero opens with deliciously sweet caramel-gold tobacco, rich with vanilla and brightened with something fresher. It's boozy, it's radiant, it's a lot of fun. There's a touch of licorice in there, but it's not excessive. At about half an hour in, it gets drier and woodier; a little smoky and crackly under the golden syrupy tobacco. Then the woody phase fades out and we're just back in that mellow golden glow. Tabaquero isn't the most complex tobacco scent out there -- I'm fond of floral/tobacco blends like Vero Profumo Naja and Olympic Orchids Carolina -- it's more of a straightforward tobacco-vanilla chord, with only slight changes along its evolution. But it's no less pleasurable for being simple. It's a honeyed, glowing, easy-flowing potion. Very satisfying.
