Indigo

Ooh I really like this one and it is very wearable despite the notes pyramid suggesting a more avant garde scent. It bears similarities to Muse by YSL which I also own and love but they are different enough to own both if love the scent profile that is. I don’t think it smells like Naked Dance, I don’t like that fragrance. To me Naked Dance was very earthy smelling. This isn’t earthy at all. Indigo for me is dusty powdery iris, lavender, soft musk, warm sandalwood. All of which come together and make a beautiful cocooning scent that lasts a long time. I wore it to bed and woke up and I could still smell it whafting off me. I was surprised by that as most of her fragrances don’t last very long for me. It’s not a loud projector by any means but it projects well for a while within your bubble which is fine by me. I actually got a couple compliments on it the few times I’ve worn it out so far and I get compliments on Muse all the time so makes sense, they both are very pleasing to smell. About the denim and asphalt aspect, I don’t smell those necessarily but I get the vibe. It’s a fragrance that to me is very cool and chic, very casual. I think it wears well in warm weather but probably would in cooler weather as well. Unisex.

This is a lovely, creative fragrance that lasts on skin. The asphalt is a beautiful old road with a slightly dusty smell, not like Yuzuyakuza that leans into the tar notes. The jeans accord is also amazing, going from an indigo dye smelling pair of selvedge jeans to a soft old pair of overwashed jeans as the powdery orris comes into prominence. The lavender is present, anchoring the fragrance from becoming too powdery, but also making it entirely unisex and appropriate for any season. After about six hours of pronounced wear you get to the slightly musky sandalwood note that cocoons you in comfort. Longevity and sillage are great if you're into that, 6 hours of noticeable projection and 2 more as a skin scent, but the true art of this fragrance is the ability to capture a memory. It really tells the story of a day off walking around in a pair of jeans, carefree and clean, and for that it earns my recommendation.

I'm really happy about this one. I've been a huge Andrea Maack fan (Entrance, supernova, soft tension, zing.... all gorgeous) and truthfully have been pretty bummed by some of her latest releases - falling a little predictable/mainstream. Indigo was a resurgence of hope in this house for me! I agree, the soft buttery orris & lavender really shine and carry this one. Mind you, these notes don't usually interest me, but paired with this suedey/demin & asphalt: it just is so cool. I totally get the asphalt on the top and in the best way. This literally smells like pulling out your demin jacket as soon as spring hits to walk down the road to just look cool. It's being in the city with messy hair, your favorite sunglasses and not texting back because you decide to buy a vintage end table at the outdoor market instead.

Indigo by Andrea Maack 👖 A quick note to myself: I didn't read the notes first. I just saw that it was Andrea Maack's new release and grabbed a sample right away. This is a woody floral musk, but don't worry, no asphalt here. To me, it smells like a blue-toned iris with a soft, melancholic depth. It truly feels like a tribute to denim, reimagined as a scent, and that concept is very accurate. 👖 As it develops, sandalwood and soft musk take over, adding warmth, gentle woods, and a skin-like softness. Dusty, understated, and surprisingly pleasing. But no "wow" factor. I actually like Indigo better than Naked Dance (which I own). Oops. 🫣 Performance: soft projection, and longevity didn't stretch past 4 hours on my skin.

This is a really fun one. On my skin the first half mostly reminds me of vintage Dior Homme Intense, the last half dries down and is very similar to Bvlgari Black. I don't get blue jeans or asphalt, maybe the hint of asphalt, but def not blue jeans. I would only wear in cold months of the year. Beautiful fragrance which took me by surprise, I hope to try out her entire line, highly recommended!

Smells like I’m back in high school in my friend’s unfinished basement in the suburbs. The “jeans” accord is atmospheric—I get a cement floor and dryer lint in a nostalgic, hopeful way that is actually super wearable. Powder is usually a hard no for me, but it’s just enough orris to feel soft and dreamy. There is half an hour or so of plastic hot topic bracelet that I was on the fence about but after wearing it a couple times I think it helps complete the overall sensory effect. Something resinous keeps me rooted in the now, and stays with me until morning. I can't decide if I need a bottle but it's giving youthful optimism in a totally grown up package and that's kind of special.

As a lover of orris, musk, and unique scents, I knew I had to get my hands on Indigo the moment it dropped, and it did not disappoint! It opens with an intriguing yet entirely wearable blend of sun-warmed asphalt and fresh denim, perfectly capturing that nostalgic scent of standing up off warm pavement in your favorite jeans. As it settles, powdery orris and herbal lavender emerge, adding a gorgeous, refined soft-focus layer. The warm sandalwood and musk base keeps the whole experience cozy and grounded. It truly evokes the essence of a well-worn pair of jeans. It's unisex, moderately projecting, and surprisingly long-lasting. Pro tip: Spray a little directly onto your denim!

Interesting but similar to Naked Dance by Oddity and Muse by YSL. I have both and prefer those over Indigo, as they are smoother, better blended, and more complex. However, the projection and longevity of Indigo outperforms those. I like this!

Seems like many can’t smell asphalt- but it’s all I can smell for the first few minutes. Add some rubbery tires. Not a fan sadly.

For sure it's a unique scent, but not for me. It reminds me of melting Asphalt during heat waves, and it's all I can feel. Good projection and longevity.

A variant of the extremely popular suede-y lavender / iris perfumes out there, of which Dior Homme Intense is probably the biggest. The asphalt note is nowere to be found- or at least I've smelled enough smoky, dark and woody things to not really be convinced by it. The perfume gets a little more bitter and inky feeling than DHI, which lends itself to the denim-dye inspiration a bit more clearly, but the fuzzy orris - lavender and sandalwood drydown is the fundamental identity around which it's made. Eventually it gets less suede-like and sharper, with a little bit of a smokey-balsamic nuance. It doesn't go too ambery, but remains a soft, lightly powdered smokey wood. Not bad but I am a little dissapointed especially because the brand seemingly puts weird notes in their marketing now to act like they still have an "edge" but more often they're settling for pumping out a bunch of mainstream, kinda boring perfumes. Their last one Neon Veil is currently voted 12 to 1 a similar scent to Glossier You...For a better denim-inspired scent I would check out Encre Indigo by Lalique. Unique, more developed, more interesting, better suits the brief, and less than half the price.

A very dry earthy leathery iris. At first it’s cold asphalt and petrichor and then it dries down to straight DK Cashmere Mist to my nose. I like it, may revisit it, but it’s not right for me right now. Maybe better on a man.

So unique. I just said "Asphalt?!" out loud involuntarily Cannot wait to sniff this with mah nostrils.

Dusty opening, but wait..... the middle notes and drydown are where it’s at. Def give it a try!

I quite enjoy this. It sits super powdery on my skin, but the dry down is lovely.
