Silk

The notes in Silk are not there to be dissected, they have the purpose of melting with one another to create new evocative smells. To me the opening is like a tangy candy, little citrus and sweet, something with a zing. Then it smells like melon, not honeydew, more like the green type, 'aquatic' and raw. And it stays that way for quite a while with the violet leaf in the forefront. Slowly, the vanilla gets more noticeable. So far, Silk is impressive

Andrea Maack is a true artist and I admire her conceptual vision of art,fragrance,and fashion. I really wanted to try this new scent!The notes are a little conventional,but I just wanted a pretty spring fragrance,nothing too out there, as are some of her other creations.I picked up the violet,and the green freshness of it`s leaves. Magnolia,amber,and vanilla gave it a warm creamy sweetness.The papyrus added to the smooth creaminess, very little citrus was detected,but it cut the possible too sweet floral effect.Next I picked up the earthy soil.Not like a bouquet of flowers,but as if they were growing right out of the damp garden soil! Very close to the skin scent,demure,and introspective. I just wish this would last longer,one hour,too bad.I really like this.

The notes listed for Andrea Maack Silk at Fragrantica could really be anything, as I smell none of them. The nearly seamless blend reminds me of a few different perfumes in wafts, and I would have sworn that there was benzoin in the mix. What else can account for this benzoin-like texture? (Note: according to another site, it is cistus (labdanum), but this does not smell like labdanum to me either...) The overall effect is somewhat silky, so I do believe that this creation is better named than Sharp (which is not) or Smart (which is basically meaningless). The naming of this triplet seems to be a part of a general cultural trend toward alliteration and abbreviation, which the military appears to be exceedingly fond of. "Find, Fix, Finish," anyone? How about using drones for work which is "dirty, dangerous, dull, and deadly"? Fortunately, Andrea Maack is less lethal, producing perfumes which are only Smart, Sharp, and Silk. I believe that she has some others as well.... To me Silk is like a limpid layer of basenotes--almost a skin scent, as another reviewer has observed. Surely there is at least some musk implicated here? The unnamed basenotes are much more dominant to my nose than the odd assortment of top and mid notes. Soil tincture? No, no dirt quality here (nothing like Hermès Terre). Papyrus? No, not like the papyrus I've smelled in perfumery before (Amouage and Jessica Simpson, among others). Violet leaf? Definitely not obvious in this case (perhaps given all of the violet leaf monsters, it simply does not register...) Vanilla? Okay, maybe it's a tiny bit sweet--like the skin of a baby. Which brings us back to clean white musk.

Ohhhh man. Why did I blind buy?? This is awful. It smells like decorating. A bit of plaster and some paint, residual turpentine in the air. I’ve just showered and sprayed this on... now I’m sorry. The bottle is literally the best thing about this. No. Ugh. Awful. Get it off!!
