Danse Lascive

I have way too many rose-fragrances and had the chance to acquire this one in a trade. I didn't really felt that "yet another" rose would do it for me but boy was I wrong. This is a great nuanced and at the same time full on leather scent. I don't agree with those who get a very rough animalic scent. The guy I got it from loves those ones and sold it due to not being dirty enough and I understand what he means. This is not a Cuir de russie or Great Britain by Roja, that is not what I am implying. But it's not that dirty. It's a little bit dirty leather fragrance with stunning flowers. Big love from me!

At first sniff I was not a fan - there is a faintly fecal quality to the opening that I found pretty off-putting, and I might have washed it off if I hadn't been in a rush. After the first 15 minutes or so, the unpleasant note fades out, leaving behind rich, warm, seasoned leather and a slowly blooming rose. It's not a scent I'd reach for every day, but after a slightly rough start I enjoyed the wafts I got throughout the day.

Starts out with promise, quickly dries into leather and only leather. It's a nice leather, but still... just leather. Maybe a touch of birch tar. And I'm not paying $215 and CA sales tax and shipping for 30ml to smell of simply leather. Having also tried Grace d'Orient and come to a similar conclusion (one note that is apparent quickly and for the remainder of the experience) I will not be in pursuit of more samples from this line.

Very rough on my first wear. Big couch like leather, bunch of bitter herbs and animalic note, as well as rose. I dont get "old perfumes" or "clubbing" per se, and while it is cohesive perfume, it doesnt bring any joy, as if from the good days of clubbing, new encounters etc. It is a very serious, mature, overly complicated frag that goes off to my sale list. Too bad...

Danse Lascive is a composition where Rose and Leather dance together till the end surrounded by a big cloud of Frankincense smoke. The smoke accord almost renders a spiritual flair to the perfume. I'm not a huge rose lover and struggle with smoky perfumes, however, I find the balance Angelos struck here truly captivating. Here we have a smoky leather perfume where Rose is used carefully to balance the composition but never to dominate it. The leather accord makes me think of a black leather jacket, whereas the smoke accord comes across as churchy to me, and appears to be built on the olibanum note. I must say, it makes me think of an Oriental perfume rather than a dance floor. The rose is beautiful, and natural smelling with a slightly green and metallic facet given by the geranium. A masculine rose indeed. I don't quite pick up the tobacco. The vetiver is used to instill a dry texture to the leather. It feels like a dry, almost ashy perfume. In the dry down, the labdanum lends extra leatheriness and smokiness, while the animalics become increasingly assertive. The hyraceum gives a slight mineral nuance while pushing the composition into dangerous territory alongside the civet. As mentioned, I don't get the dance floor association. It makes me think of compositions such as Sultan Pasha's Ame Sombre and to a small extent, Sultan Leather Attar, two perfumes that I adore. Yet, it brings a different flavor to the table and behaves differently enough to find a welcoming place in the collection. One of the best Rose and Leather pairings that I have tried, and the beautiful Frankincense accord is the icing on top of the cake. This was a blind buy for me and a very successful one at that.
