Vetiveria Animalis

A beautiful, animalic, floral vetiver in the mold of Guerlain's fabled Djedi. It shares much with that scent--while it's less obviously floral-aldehydic, that sensation is there, resting on a bed of smoky vetiver. I know it says it contains Haitian and Java vetiver. The smokier Java is definitely more at the forefront. It all rests on a cozy bed of amber--vanilla, resins, etc., that also feels like an echo of the Guerlain tradition in general. For what it's worth, I don't really smell too much in the way of "overt" oud beyond a general animalic woodiness that is threaded through the scent. Those who either bemoan the rarity of Djedi or those curious to get a sense of what it smelled like should investigate. Lovely stuff!

A very natural smelling animalic vetiver with a light touch of flowers. The long dry-down is pure & excellent vetiver.

Unapologetically bold vintage powerhouse. The opening is so striking leather that when my boyfriend sprays it on, I have to roll down the car windows for the first 3 minutes. Once the initial punch settles, though, it’s surely enigmatic. The rugged, earthy vetivers takes center stage, perfectly balanced by leathery, mossy, musky undertones that feel raw yet refined. It’s a fragrance with incredible character—definitely not for the faint of heart but an absolute dream for lovers of bold, classic compositions. May not be a daily wear but my man works in two open office spaces and did not get thrown out for constantly wearing it from either. Very masculine.

A cinnamon scent combined with a bundle of spices & vetiver. The sweetness of the cinnamon really blends beautifully with three different kinds of vetivers. It appears a bit spicy; at first, I thought it had some sweaty cumin in it because it became a bit dirty, which could be the carnation after reading the notes. After the "dirty" part disappeared, a new wave of earthy vetiver, rose & jasmine appeared. You can still find the cinnamon, but it's more subtle in the background but reappears with its sweetness through the scent.
