Tabac Libre

The opening of Tabac Libre is one of the most beautiful perfumes I've had the pleasure to smell. It's in the opening that I really pick up the balance of raspberry and plum with the rum and cognac and tobacco notes...pure bliss. Once the perfume begins to dry down the tobacco and coffee notes take center stage and the fruit and beverage notes take more of a supporting role. It is still very beautiful, but takes on a stronger mustiness from the coffee as well. This fragrance though unisex leans more masculine IMO, especially in the dry down. This is a full bottle purchase for me for sure. A wonderful piece of olfactory art is accomplished in this perfume. Bravo Mr. Balamis!

This one is truly a multi-level masterpiece!! It’s smoky, fruity, sweet, boozy, leathery, spicy , all at the same time! It evokes images of a rainy day in Havana , Cuba. The air brings in the scent of wet tobacco leaves , flowers and oak moss...people are sitting in cafés, sipping their rum and cognac , eating syrupy fruits sprinkled with spices and smoking sweet cigars with a vanilla aftertaste, while the aroma of freshly brewed coffee is completing the olfactory picture! So so so so good!

Unique. Something new, out of the ordinary! Oud and tobacco are my favourite notes. I own and smelled many many tobacco theme frags. This one is Easily in the top 3 tobaccos I've ever smelled!

Most tobacco fragrances are very unidirectional and boring. This creation is so unique in that it is tobacco with a million different facets. Very beautiful

My hat is off to the perfumer Balamis for creating some original art here. This one is complex and doesn't remind me of any other fragrance I can recall trying, but it does strongly remind me of a place and time. Have you ever been to someone's house that cooks a lot of ethnic food and has a lot of antiques? I'm part middle eastern, and this reminds me of family dinners in middle eastern households in the 80's and early 90"s. The smells of saffron, sumac, barberries, rices, and spices combined with old middle eastern artifacts and tobacco. Over the years, these smells permeated the furniture and carpets. Rich with history and nostalgia, this brings back memories.

Niche version of Plum Japonais, more floral with added tobacco note and lots of dry immortelle. Osmanthus is done to perfection here. Unfortunately, price to performance ratio is not the best, i got 4 h of wearing with 2 hours of projection which is not room filling. Just moderate projection. After 2 hours goes into skin scent where it lives for about 2 more hours, after it is gone completely. Not closely good enough for the fragrance which costs over 4€ per 1 ml. If you want great tobacco spicy fruity fragrance with great performance, quality and creativity, go for Nocturne - Tafir.

Deep, thick, and dark boozy tobacco with fruity nuances. Very nice, but a bit on the sweet side, which is the rote implementation for tobacco. The notes that stick out the most are tobacco, plum, hay and raspberry, while everything else coexists in an integument. I get that castoreum too, but it’s well-blended and inoffensive. It reminds me a bit of Plum Japonais, but more natural with the addition of tobacco and hay, this one however is sweeter.

A beautiful rainbow of tobacco with a full hue. It is difficult to describe its evolution. I get a succession of moist leaves, raspberries, cognac, coffee, hay, castoreum, almonds, plums, suede, osmanthus, carnation, musk, cedar, opoponax ... Many notes and masterfully balanced. Boozy, gourmand, dusty, woody, and ... contemplative. A fruity tobacco, rather sweet but which does not tire the nose and is deep and pleasant to wear. Good!

Tobacco & Rum. Sweet opening, a bit caramelized like a coke. The deep tobacco scent is not your typical "boring" tobacco scent since the cola gives the scent more of a depth. The scent dries down to a more complex tobacco with multiple elements from spices like cardamom & saffron. A bit of earthy patchouli & cedar drydown. Summary: great if you want a smooth and not too simple tobacco-focused scent.

Interesting. The sweet and the nightclubby notes are dominating. Projection is rad. My bf picked this one out for a discovery set from Balamis (who in fact was great when our first delivery was confiscated and immediately posted a new set). Out of the 6+2 decants he is leaning towards this one for a full bottle. I only l i k e d it but what do I know.

I get a lot of the savory licorice vibe imparted by immortelle & opoponax. Hay & cognac aid in the perception of tobacco, but does not dominate the fragrance.

I've put this on a paper and not a chance that I'd put this on my skin. Starts off as strong walnut liqueur and quickly turns to most concentrated mature tobacco I've ever smelt. It's like 80% perfume oil is tobacco absolute. So overpowering and for me personally - unwearable. As a piece of art, I get it, but as something to put on a person, definitely no. Btw I have The King by Boadicea (my 2nd favorite perfume) and they have nothing to do with each other.

Tabac Libré is full on, raw power tobacco leaf. This is the smell of a tobacco field with a barn filled with cured tobacco bushels hanging in the rafters. It’s dusty, dry, and complex. I can smell the aroma of tobacco leaves from the moment I spray it all the way deep into the drydown. This is truly tobacco at its finest. Tabac Libre thankfully has more than just tobacco and Angelos has done an incredible job creating a full scent pyramid with this composition. In the opening you get hints of resinous dried fruits and plum as well as a gorgeous incense quality deep in the heart. Dry woods, dry spices, and dry florals round out the fragrance while never veering too far from its original intention. This is unique in the over saturated and highly redundant tobacco genre and one that I feel sits proudly on my shelf next to Sultan Pasha’s Tabac Grande as they both serve different purposes and functions. If Tabac Grande is all about thick, resinous, balsamic pipe tobacco Tabac Libre is all about the field itself, the barn, the leaf, and the curing process. 8.5/10 for me

This is actually a tobacco scent that delivers! Picture some plump fig newton bars soaked in aged cognac, but with the fig filling being substituted with raspberry filling. I can detect apricot nuances and cigar smoke/ashyness similar to T Habanero. I think the tobacco that was used in amouage tobacco royal is much more active here as opposed to being an introvert in that release. The oud in this fragrance is like the oud used in Xerjoff Luxor. It's slightly funky, but nothing that would negate such a classy, rich, and dense piece of art in a bottle! The performance is 8 + hours so that's another huge win!

Sweet tobacco, herbal tea (think maté), jasmine buds, frangipani and a cola/lime-accord which dissappears within the first 10 minutes. Then tobacco really takes the forefront along with dried fruits that simply feel like facets of the tobacco. Earl grey with dried lemon peels. A tobacco centered scent for the ones craving only the mild parts of tobacco leaves and none of the smokey harsh notes some variants gives off. This grants you a cozy, soft aura without being strong or intense. Definitely unisex.

No tobacco. This perfume is sitting more in the territory of a spicy gingerbread cookie with fruity jam than tobacco. After every such "tobacco" perfume i wonder if these perfumers ever held a fine cigar in their hands, ever been to humidor? Angelo definitely didnt. Its not a bad perfume though, no synthetic notes, perfume has story and is multifaceted, however this story is not a tobacco one.

I am amazed by every review that says this one doesn’t give tobacco or that it’s only mild pleasant notes. When I put it on the top is so animalic and raw in the tobacco direction that I feel like I’m smelling a different perfume. The truth is I’m probably sensitive to one of the materials but for me the second half of the perfume is the calm side of things and the opening is scary! Strange!

The combination of rum, tobacco, and hay, supposedly with natural materials, creates a far too syrupy scent that dominates, likely due to Sotolon. Besides that the supporting notes are actually quite pleasant, but I can't stomach the base.
