Sahara 4800

My update after few month of wearing. I understand the synthetic comments, but I think people may be reacting to the champagne and warm sand accord and the very polished woods. Sahara 4800 is not naturalistic, it's abstract, really off script. I get dry leather, saffron, warm sand and a mineral brightness that makes it feel very modern. The longevity is excellent on my skin. I still smell it after many hours, especially the saffron leather and wood drydown. Smells expensive, but not in a flashy way, more like understated luxury. If you want sweet compliments, maybe no. If you want people to notice that you smell different and refined, yes.

Alongside Umbra Oud, Sahara 4800 is the absolute pinnacle of what this house can do. It is easily one of the most unique, post-modern leather fragrances in my collection. It perfectly captures its namesake inspiration—there’s an incredible contrast between a bright, sparkling effervescent champagne opening and a rugged, intensely dry heart of saffron leather and warm sand. The drydown brings a sharp, technical ink note mixed with clean cedar fractions that feels completely futuristic and incredibly chic. I’ve had to wear this a few times to get my head round it. And that should tell you straight away that it’s an interesting, thoughtful and different fragrance. It’s a sand scent. But sand doesn’t really have a smell. What this does is create a coarse, warm and dry accord - if you close your eyes (or indeed if you keep them open) and you can imagine the desert. A supple suedey leather keeps the whole dry vibe going and it’s balanced with some cedar and musk. There’s other notes listed interestingly including ink and champagne but the overall effect here is of a vast dry expanse and I’m here for it.

This one reminds me of discontinued Al Adhriyah from Al Majed Oud with spicy metallic saffron opening mixed with patchouli and floral note. Here, the floral note is replaced by pink pepper. I think it's a good take, appropriate to it's name. It's longevity and sillage are incredible, perfect for special occasions. The website mentions it's concentration is 25% and the perfumer mentioned she used cedar to recreate sand like notes and pink pepper to get champaign like notes.

In addition to my new love Umbra Oud, this fragrance is something I definitely need to live with. Extremely elegant, yet mineral and a bit woody, it is very multilayering, having so many facets. I've just got a sample of Sahara 4800, so will come back with my settled thoughts in the nearest time. For now - it's an epitome of chic.

This is such an interesting fragrance. It is soft warm leather, soft sand & saffron, this fragrance leave me smelling my wrist for hours.

I cannot decide if I like it or not. Good: - good projection - Last long - I do smell something resembling sand - Overall good fragrance Negative - Something synthetic weird smell creeps in sometimes and it just smells like some sort of plastic. I think I like it but I am not sure

It smells like dentist’s office. I don’t like it at all. Definitely not the best work of Sidonie Lancesseur. Luckily, I only got a small tester - I can’t imagine where I could wear this perfume.

Very polarizing. For me this is a cold scent, super strange, brings me discomfort. association: metal, empty white room

I have a very strong physical reaction to this perfume. I don't know what it is, but it makes me instantly gag. I can't believe somebody associated it with Ganymede, which I adore.

I really like this. A scent for androids. You can see how the notes listed relate to the scent you smell (particularly smart blend of diffuse "high pitched" notes like saffron and pink pepper with smooth "low pitched" notes like leather, musk and patchouli), but honestly it's one of those smells that reducing it down to any marketed constituent elements is a bit pointless. I can see why they've gone with the desert angle - it makes sense. But to me, it evokes something quite different. Synthetic, industrial and stark, but without the sharp-edges and headache-induction (close, but not quite) that normally go hand-in-hand with this sort of more fringe scent. The whole fragrance is tethered to a sort of fundamental chic cosmetic sensibility which keeps it wearable, but the overall effect is kind of like if Chanel made perfume for robots in the year 2163. It is austere, it is stylish, it is vaguely melancholy, it is post-modern. A tiny hint of sweet inky, musky powderiness is surrounded by an aloof halo of half-tamed industrial chemicals and the ghost of a metallic tang. Somewhere between high-end make-up and a spacecraft. This is the scent the empress of a galactic empire would wear.

This is a complex (or maybe complicated) perfume. I experienced smelling it as intensely sad, yet it didn't remind me of anything from my past. In fact, it made me tear up in front of the shop attendant who suggested it as an interesting fragrance, which was awkward. If loneliness had a smell, this would be it. Please, if you run into a bottle, stop what you're doing and give it your undivided attention. Let it take you into its vast open plains of desperate loneliness. I'm not sure if it's the Sahara, but definitely some place like it. I can't wear this because of the visceral reaction it illicited in me, but it's definitely wearable if your experience is different from mine.

An absolute masterpiece, warm and spicy, really transports me to the windy Sahara desert. The fragrance is very long lasting, I would say that it is perfect for any season. I like wearing it in winter when I go out in town for dinner. Woody, sandy and spicy. A perfect combination of olfactory notes. A good choice!

I’m sure the leather in this is what makes up the sand note that I’m searching for. But I do wish it was much less leather forward with the ink and nutmeg dialled up. The further it is away from me, the nicer it smells.
