Agua Brava

the first time I smelled this fragrance was a very long time ago, I was 7 years old (1970), and my father that was a heavy user of aftershaves/colognes (most of the regular ones), he decided to break the normal routine of buying the common BRUT, AQUA DI SELVA, PINO SILVESTRE, SKIN BRACER, and OLD SPICE and he went for something more "sophisticated" in a manner of speak, he brought home a 100ml of AGUA BRAVA Eau De Cologne splash bottle; I thought the bottle was very unique, the green colour and the design were two things that really caught my eye; when he wore the cologne after a shower, I've got hooked by the herbal-aromatic and dry woody chypre kind of smell of this manly and awesome fragrance, it was so sublime, unique in a way, different from the rest; it had something enchanting that I could not describe but that fragrant dry woody chypre note filled the air around like an aureole of wonderful natural scents, aromatic herbs, and mosses. So, I decided for the second time(15 years ago) to retrieve that fantastic aroma of AGUA BRAVA once again and got a 100ml bottle splash of this magnificent Eau de cologne; the memories came back straight away to my head when I wore it, I went back in time, I remembered some of those great and wonderful times of my youth that now are just stored in my memories and old photos, this fragrance was a good reminder of my great and happy past; I wanted to have this fragrance again so I ordered a 500ml splash bottle of AGUA BRAVA to enjoy this magnificent-manly-mature and sophisticated cologne that is a vivid example of how a man's fragrance has to smell; the rest is just history full of memories and good times, but AGUA BRAVA is there whenever I need to smell it for brining back those times to me; the green color and oval shape bottle represents sophistication, maturity, and self-confidence for those men out there that apreciate the good quality from the past, and this cologne keeps its image of strong-rough man that knows his gender and stands on his ground. Puig house has wonderful fragrances and I have enjoyed most of them, especially BRUMMEL and QUORUM(of which I am an everyday heavy loyal user); simply I love QUORUM as my dearest and most beloved aftershave/cologne that only ARAMIS(original) can share its place as my second beloved one. Now I decided I need no more fragrances as my time of trying different colognes and aftershaves have just gone; I keep only those fragrances that I really love and wear YATAGAN, ARAMIS(original), QUORUM, AGUA BRAVA, BOGART(signature) and BRUMMEL are my choice and I have no intention of changing as I find in these 6 fragrances that they suit and mix perfectly with my character and personality, so I do not need different ones anymore.

It's in theory, a sport version of Quorum. (Or Quorum is rather Agua Brava Le Parfum, XD) Bright mediterranean lemon and bergamot citrus pop in the opening. I don't perceive the herbs in the top except for a camphorous aspect, almost mentholated, which i guess is a nuance of the bayleaf. Holds woods into the heart, but interestingly enough, the base is not as wood or leather - forward. On my skin, the base of Agua Brava ends up smelling like an ever so slightly sweet musk, with citrus peel and a slight soap, oakmoss facet to it. Its longevity is quite frankly very average, and bear in mind the box of the 2022 formulation says "Eau de Cologne" but in the back says it has 85% of alcohol, that meaning the remaining percentage is fragrance raw material / Oils / absolutes, so, in theory, should be dubbed an EDT. Quite old fashioned for some, but i think this on summer smells just great, and if a 15 year old thinks he can pull it off, i'm sure he can try it and with even this fragrance he'll receive compliments, since they come with your image and personality being likeable, not just on scent. PD: On current formula it still has natural oakmoss, mentioned in the box as Evernia Prunastri extract. Oakmoss is not banned but rather restricted to a very low usage of 0.1% of final product in the 4th category as of IFRA's latest ammendments, which corresponds to fragrance. I'd say a safe blind buy if you want a clean scent, and if you wanna feel as if you're in a 1960's bossa nova song or movie in the beach. Blessings.

If I was stranded on a deserted island and could have only one fragrance, it would be Agua Brava. I have used it since 1971, bought my first bottle in Rota, Spain. There are striking similarities shared by Agua Brava, Pino Sylvestre Original and Acqua di Selva...but to me at least, AB 'begins' where Pino Sylvestre Original and Acqua di Selva both leave off...maybe it's the musk/leather in the drydown. There's just something "more" in the makeup of AB. And in my humble opinion, it's a genuine bargain. Now...that said, recent bottles of AB don't seem to have the strength or projection of the earlier stuff. Or maybe, just maybe...MY body's metabolism and chemistry have changed. Still, it's my absolute, all-time favorite fragrance. A tip: to get the most longetivity out of AB, try layering it with either Pino Sylvestre Original or Acqua di Selva. Since both Pino and Acqua di Selva are EDTs, they can extend the experience. Another tip: use the deodorant! It will also help extend what we all love about Agua Brava!

The negative reviews are actually the ones that drew me the most to wanting to blind buy this. “Smells like you cooked a big Italian meal and then went walking in the woods”, “it’s great if you want to smell like a 50 year old priest”, dude that sounds different and fascinating. I don’t know of anything else that smells remotely like this. It’s got notes that include bay leaf, and it’s super inexpensive. My wife loves it on me. It feels very old fashioned and distinct in an international way. This is a working man’s scent. A firm handshake, direct eye contact, a soft sonorous voice, calloused hands, a word of encouragement, dependably calm and collected. If Aqua Brava was a man, he would be all of these. I would sacrifice half or more of my fragrance wardrobe for an edt version of this. I’ve smelled hand sanitizer with better longevity. PUIG!!! GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!!! Note: I have almost 20 different scents I have to choose from and THIS is the ONLY one my wife rates a 10/10.

I saw a review of this on TikTok of all places. For the price it was an easy blind buy, and I'm so glad I did. I recognized it when I smelled it. In the early 90s, at my first job, I worked in the building that also housed offices for the Spanish consulate. Often I'd be in the elevator with one of their staff, an incredibly elegant older gentleman, always perfectly attired in double-breasted suits. This, along with cigarettes, is what he smelled like. Now, this is a very light scent, but it doesn't disappear, at least on me. It does not have any real sense of 'sillage' of course, but I still smell it on skin (and particularly on fabric) hours later - but more in the way a soap might leave the skin smelling. For something from the 60s this smells so fantastic, compared to so much garbage that put out that has no real scent but chemical abbrasivneess. If you have any interest in a 'gentlemanly' scent with a side of sexiness, this is the easist blind buy you'll make.

This is maybe the first fragance i choose in my life when i was a child. then many years has pass (something like 30) Agua Brava was discontinued here in México; and yesterday i recived it in my home (from Germany). I I I never thought that i will love it; the last time i had it i was when i was around 10 years old... and for the price... ther was no risk at all. Here is what happends.. THIS IS AMAZING Think in somethin between Tom Ford Italian Cypress and Frederic Malle French Lover... but 39dlls for 200 ml... it ́s true; in deep on my soul, i think that agua Brava makes me a Fragance Collector and lover even when i didn ́t konw it. Great fragance I am in love with all that what this makes me in my life. Great memories; great woody fragance. you can buy it blind, with out having any risk. :)

I still have 3/4 of a massive 500 ml splash bottle of Agua Brava ....... I think this is my second or third bottle, I am not sure, but I am sure of getting another one as soon as this one finishes, it's a warm, woody and kind of herbal cologne, excellent for wearing it on those hot sunny summer days, it projects well for two hours then the intensity goes down but still, people around you can smell it, I have had people (ladies) asking me "what is that masculine fragrance you are wearing", very macho and enchanting scent ....... although I am the guy that doesn't care about compliements at all, it makes me realise that the cologne despite the reformulations still keeps some of its charaters and that strong macho personality that people find it atractive and seductive.

Right after the momentary blast of lemon at the very beginning, it's the fascinating herbal and herbaceous scents that make me feel like standing in autumn woods with dry and fresh herbs and foliage around me, and draw my memory back to my childhood. When I over spray it -- because it's damn so light -- others perceive it as herbal medicine (in a good sense). It's for spring, summer and fall (10°C-40°C), day and night. The only downside is its projection and longevity, which must be compensated with over 10 spritz and frequent re-applications. It noticeably wanes since the moment I spray it, and is mostly gone within 2h however much I apply. But I still love it. 500ml from spring to fall. Outdoors and alone. I love it.

Count me in. I have been trying a new 100 ml spray bottle this week for the first time and really enjoy this. As indicated, it's in the same pine and woody vein as Acqua di Selva and particularly Pino Silvestre, but a bit dryer and more linear. I think the notes have it right--more bay leaf than sweet basil and oregano. Less citrus, and more twiggy. A little mesquite. Definitely an EDC in terms of lifespan, but stronger performance than a citrus-heavy EDC like the Guerlain eaux series. It's good while it lasts, and then you can either reapply or go with something else. Very pleased with this woody cheapie. A lovely fragrance. No wonder it's been around for more than 50 years. I'll keep coming back.

Very spicy and herbal in a good way. Originally old school.(80s) Initial blast of citrus is very strong and synthetic but still ok. This part resembles Ferrari-Radiant Bergamot a lot. After first 15 mins its a lot of nice frankincense . Nice bay leaf too. Reminds of some medicinal ointments too due to the spice obviously. For the 5$ for 50ml price range, this is a must try and nothing to complain about. Worth trying and worth keeping in a collection. Not a weak one. Projectivity and longevity are not bad. Its a beauty for the price-range. You also get traces of the following ones in this - a bit of Tabac-Original, Old-Spice etc.

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 039 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased June 2017 Lovely stuff. A most excellent woody, pine citrus of old. This era was when "freshies" were becoming refined for the first time, easier on those nose but still bloody bold for the typical man in a typical office/tradesman job. More woody citrus than Pino and Acqua di Selva. Just one more thing. The cap was poorly made, the sleeve not staying in the woody looking cap that you tug on. It always clung to the atomiser collar. Super glue fixed that and I can enjoy it in its intended design.

Being a fan of (almost) all the innovative mediterranean fragrances (from D's Cool Water to Annick Goutal's Sables and beyond), I can not stand to the Puig's Agua Brava. I really love it. In Spain, it is cheap as a glass of wine. But, on a man's skin everywhere on this planet, this scent is a precious game-changer. Virile and always fresh, timeless and crispy - that's its legend. From 1968 until tomorrow, Puig continues to offer (on a leather plate) a pine-lavander-sandal treasure-juice. Reasonably good in terms of longevity & sillage, even in it's "eau de cologne" form. A deserved 8,7/10.

After the disappointment of One Man Show, this was, at risk of sounding a bit dramatic, a revelation. It opens just slightly lathery, from the lavender, with the sage, lemon and juniper really making the opening grand. The lavender just smooths out the sharp edges. As it dries down, you get this amazing grandma's kitchen herbaciousnes, with the moss, vetivee, and patchouli just barely under girding it with a light, smooth earthiness. This is gorgeous and, at it's price point, there's no excuse not to have it. Amazing, Z-tier men's chypre that really seems to be in a class of it's own.

To my nose this is a lot like Pino Silvestre, but more complex, richer and better blended and with a more interesting dry-down. Very bright and sunny citruses and pine with herbs and sweet cloves on a leather base. Very cooling on a hot summer day after a shower. I have the splash on bottle. Very natural smelling juice. The first 10 minutes are intense and it dries down to a very nice soothing and uplifting scent. An invigorating mood lifter.

Agua Brava!! I was a kid in early 1970's when I smelled this - I also remember the advert on the TV. The story now is: Mediterranean sunny holidays walking with your other half holding hands, to the one side is the sea - to the other side the tavernas & cafes, passing through other couples and families..... And always with the calm satisfactory smile on the face!!

Fantastic. Sharp piney punch like a walk through the woods on a cool summer morning. Lavender, herbs, hints of citrus. Very old school, classic, and manly. Not a modern frag for nights out but more of a personal scent for daily running around and feeling old school classic. Scent: 7.5 / Sillage: 7 / Longevity: 5.5

I have bought several bottles of this, it has such a unique smell. To me it smells like mineral spring water, salt, iodine. The mineral notes given by that mixture of aromatic plants it's just beautiful. For a cologne, the longevity is decent, about 4 hours, I use it more as an aftershave cause I really love it.

Very herbaceous, woody and masculine. The citrus notes are attenuated during drydown, replaced by an oregano, bay leaf and cedar scent. Although this one dates to the late 1960s, there is nothing to suggest that it's out of fashion. Agua Brava is a timeless classic.

sometimes when i feel tired of all those modern sweet/synthetic scents, i fall back on agua brava to take that nice bath of refreshing masculine herbs i'm 25 and i love it, and women do too.. the bad thing is that it lasts only a little

Again a good example of how perfumes work differntly on everybody's skin. Although it is an EDC when I use it after my shave, I can smell it on my face the next day... Good stuff manly after shave.
