THE SPANISH "BEAU" BRUMMEL George "Beau" Brummell (1778 -1840) was an English dandy, famous as much for his sharp and witty comments as for his elegance and charm. He belonged to the small circle of friends of the prince later crowned as George IV. He was born in Downing Street, where his father resided as private secretary to Prime Minister Lord North. He mingled with the aristocracy from an early age. He developed an interest in sartorial fashion and his elegant bearing earned him an early nickname of 'Buck' Brummell (literally Brummel the macho man). He attended Oriel College in Oxford. After only one semester, he applied for a commission in the army and joined the 10th regiment of the Light Dragoons as a sub-lieutenant. It was in this regiment that he met the Prince of Wales. The Dragoons, also known as Hussars, wore very elaborate and gaudy uniforms. Their members were always favoured young men, usually quite rowdy, and they often got drunk. Only a small number of youngsters formed the Prince of Wales' inner circle, and Brummell soon became one of the most highly regarded prince companions. In 1795 Brummell was promoted to lieutenant, and then to captain. The promotions dressed him in dazzling uniforms. That a sixteen-year-old commoner would be accepted into the prince's regiment and then into his circle of close friends was quite a mystery. Brummell also belonged to the prince's honour guard at the time of his marriage to Princess Caroline in 1795. A few hours later he was one of the prince's drunken cronies, and whom the Princess accused of ruining her honeymoon. In 1798 the regiment moved to Manchester and Brummell left the army. He preferred to remain in London and close to the prince to maintain his position of influence. The following year he received a substantial paternal inheritance. He now had the means to make his mark in the English high society. In 1799 he moved to Chesterfield Street and began his quest to become London's best-dressed gentleman. The receptions he hosted or attended, became events of great importance. It was around 1800, that he acquired the nickname "Beau" Brummel. His style was refined but sober. He always chose a restricted number of colours, as opposed to the very colourful costumes used by Georgian gentlemen. He was famous for the intricate folds of his scarf and the fine materials used in his blue coat. He quickly became the standard of a high society that claimed to be elegant. In early 19th century London, Brummell's opinion was all that mattered when it came to fashion. He frequented famous London gentlemen's clubs like Watier's and Brooks's. His opinion was enough to exclude someone from these social circles and his favourable opinion was of enormous value. Brummel was also a prolific flirter. All of Brummell's loves were or became notorious courtesans. Brummell was as famous for his sagacity as he was for his rudeness. His caustic remarks eventually cost him the friendship of the Prince of Wales, which dictated the beginning of his end. Through his extravagances, Brummell squandered his fortune and sank into gambling debts. He fled London to escape punishment, but unfortunately, he could not escape illness. His habit of visiting prostitutes while in the army left him infected with syphilis. The disease brought him suffering and dementia. In 1839 he was sent to an asylum where he died in March 1840. His death went virtually unnoticed in England, where for nearly a couple of decades, he was the epitome of elegance for society. The Spanish society has always been very permeable to British influence. It is not by mere coincidence that a major Spanish fashion retailer is called "El Corte Inglés", which can be translated either as "The English Court" or as "The English Court". The dandy Beau Brummel was famous enough in London to influence a major Puig launch in 1975, the Eau de Cologne "Brummel which was one of Rosendo Mateu's first co-creations. Puig has always kept this Cologne as a low-end, so it became extremely popular in Spain given its low cost coupled with its lovely scent. Even today it can be bought in Spain in a 500 ml splash version at a derisory cost. On the one hand, this EDC proposes a lemony and fougére opening with bright, fresh, aromatic citrus (bergamot and/or lemon) along with lavender and herbs. On the other hand, the opening bouquet is confronted with spices like cinnamon, and pepper, as well as some carnation in the heart of the fragrance. The base is all about woods, oak, some moist tobacco and a hint of vetiver. It's so refreshing! The scent as a whole can be felt to be lemony, woody and spicy, but I find strong nuances of a barbershop trend. I especially recommend the "splash" version so we can flood our faces with a vigorous and abundant scrub. I can't help but compare this "Beau" "Brummel" with other "splash" flasks I have like "Aramis" and "Tabac Original". I quite like going in for this kind of exaggeration and using a cologne abundantly as if it were an aftershave. My opinion: Don't be fooled by the low cost of any Brummel bottle size, although performance is always as expected from a cologne with a low concentration. Nor do I intend to go as far as comparing this fragrance to "Viking Cologne | Creed", as I have noted more than once. However, I find it a very pleasant experience, applying this cologne abundantly after a shower or after a good shave... and it doesn't weigh down the pocket at all. It's also a social experience. Bear in mind that millions of Spanish men used it profusely in the past fifty years or so... It is quite masculine and it's not heavy on the pocket at all. Music: "Malagueña Salerosa" by Chingon

a very woody+spicy+citrus cologne, super manly and with that hint of sophistication that makes this fragrance just right for the summer days; it is not strong but the woody scent lingers on my skin for more than 5 hours (pretty good for a cologne) and despite that the projection is not its strong side, the fragrance can be noticed by people that often have asked me "what is that manly and conservative fragrance you're wearing?", I have noticed some women sniffing very discretely behind my neck when I pass by close to them and it looks like they are intrigued by the scent of BRUMMEL; this cologne is not for youngsters that are attached to sweet and candy based fragrances, colognes like this, are just for the rough alpha male, for those that have a solid character and strong personality ......... and for those men out there that have the real appreciation for the yesterday's man's fragrances.

In Spain, to say you smell like Brummel is a bad thing, like you smell antiquated and primitive. I say: "Hell yeah, that's how I want to smell." More details on the notes: Orange Leaf, Lavender, Lemon, Sage, Thyme Cinnamon, Geranium, Pepper Cashmere Wood, Oak Moss, Sandalwood, Tobacco, Vetiver It seems like a lot, but this is a simple fragrance for a simple man. You probably know this scent, it has citrus, spices, woods... It's good. Performance is not strong, but it's pretty good for Eau de Cologne concentration. Bathe yourself in this EDC and go ride a horse if you want the full experience.

I can understand: our Spaniard friends feel that’s enough; they are pure & simple exhausted by their Brummel. In Spain, you can easily buy two 100 ml bottles of Brummel, an eau de toilette and an after shave, with 10–15 euros altogether, at almost every corner. But, you know what? Nonetheless, Brummel is a very good cologne. For a mature man (40+) or a guy who appreciates the perfumes of the ’70 or the ’80, Brummel will be a pleasant surprise. A crisp woody aromatic, for a clear & clean morning. Have you ever loved Givenchy’s Monsieur, or Gentleman, or their mates? Then, Brummel is your kind of juice. Of course, it’s very cheap, probably is ultra–synthetic and, alas, in Spain is quasi–omnipresent. But I truly believe that, in the rest of the world, a real men’s perfumes collection must have it. Once again: if you don’t know it, you’ll have a biiiiig surprise. A deserved 8/10.

ZELJO is quite right but is the young generation the ones who gave brummel this kind of popularity, me i come from country side in spain from the little villages in La Mancha where in the past most of the man(25-60+) use brummel and got hairy chest, do hard jobs and visits often the gentlemans club, i think that's why this popularity but for me its a very manly smell and if u ar not in spain where maybe they will judge you, i think for the price is a really good and manly cologne.

This is a magnificent classic from the Kingdom of Spain. Amazing smell, clean man with a zesty, sophisticated citrusy kick, alongside some talc powder. Sillage is A-Okay, but the longevity is where this classic from 1975 lacks, due to its EDC concentration, but come on its 24 € for HALF A LITER. When this is the scent of the day I just bathe in it every few hours when I want to. Reminds me of Armani Eau Pour Homme (a much cheaper version, but still amazing)

I leave a small positive comment on Brummel Edc, a fresh slightly woody citrus fruit that is very pleasant and elegant like some Edt of the 60s / 70s, in fact we are talking about a 1975 creation. Slightly close to Capucci for man or to the legendary Signoricci by Nina Ricci or to the ever green Eau sauvage by Dior, in short, picking up a vintage creation can be very positive. Thanks to Puig who offers it again.

... smells good , widely available in Portugal and of course, Spain , decent perfomance and fantastic value for money ... ... of couse , both box and bottle are a bit dated and lacking in ... expressive content... but what one actually wears is the perfume , which is fresh , masculine and suitable for daily use . ... good news for those wanting to spend less with a great effect ...

This fragrance was for my grandfather, his signature scent, I would say from its launch until the day he passed away, he did not use any other fragrance during all those years. It is very difficult for me not to identify this scent with the elderly, since in my environment he only used it from the time I was born until his last days. It was much more powerful than it is now, in the past it left a lot of trail when someone wore it down the street, on the other hand, the current versions of which my husband has a bottle, it is only noticeable for the first hour and then it is only a skin-level scent and much softer than years ago. The scent has not changed that much but its intensity has decreased quite noticeably. It was very massified (at least in Spain) due to its low price and easy access, but for me it’s not unpleasant or outdated, although I am unable to use it myself or imagine it on other people as it was a relative signature scent. Nowadays I only have a bottle for nostalgia and to remember a loved one.

Longevity is very impressive for an EDC. Its close to the skin but longlasting. As for the scent it is versatile, bright, sharp and a lot of alcohol

In my eyes barbershop classic from Spain in the 80ies. For mature Gentlemen - maybe old-fashioned classic - not really a compliment puller. typical 80ies vibe fragrance. Would not buy again. Nothing special for my senses. Performance: 3-6 hours Sillage: Arms length For whom: Gentlemen >50 My background: I only write reviews about scents I have worn already (until the bottle is finished or given away) or are in current use. I'm a Gentlemen - middle aged - predominantly in an executive office environment wearing suits and representing with many official gatherings.

Since I'm a Max Gavarry fan I was looking for this perfume's pyramid and didn't find it on neither Fragrantica nor Parfumo, I'm gonna add this: OLFACTIVE PYRAMID: Top notes: orange leaf, lavender, green lemon, sage and thyme; Heart notes: cinnamon, geranium and pepper; Base notes: cashmere wood, holm moss, sandalwood, tobacco and vetiver.

Max Gavarry is my favourite perfumer and this is definitely one of the worst scents I know, and I have smelt pretty much all of his masculines and this is the only bad one in my opinion. May this review save somebody like me some money.

Yes. That is, what I call mossy-fougére. Perhaps, this type of fougére is the olderest, but the most elegant, almost exclusively for formal occasions, to black suit, black tie, for a mature man. The two best-known representatives are Dior Eau Sauvage and Armani Eau Pour Homme. These are so elegant and delicate that they don't go with any casual look. Brummel is in that team, but a bit darker, and spicier like both of them. Lavander, moss, citruses and woods. Can be used quite specifically, but I like that type and I like Brummel. UPDATE: I read somewhere that in rural Spain, especially in the villages, the local guys wear it! Everybody does! They don't care what's cool in the clubs in the big cities... and on the beaches. It's what they want! It's very funny and I love it! Bravo Guys! Keep it up! Keep the old values! Greets from Hungary! :))

Spain what are you playing at? You've produced some of the best EDTs known to man under the Puig label. Why write off classics like this? Thd Vetiver De Puig was one of the best ever seen yet, the Spanish trend to rubbish their own excellent industry for designer tosh is incredibly sad. Spain produces in my eye's some of the best long lasting EDTs and decent value for money lines ever seen. Don't abandon your history be proud of it!!Otherwise you don't know what you've lost until it's gone.

Along with Agua Brava this was the smell of my gran dad's generation...strong, masculine, fresh. It's a shame it has these connotations nowadays in Spain. I bought my husband a perfume that quite reminds me of this old school smell: Fan di Fendi aqua.

in Spain saying you smells to brummel means you smell old, cheap or even dirty, nobody under 60 uses brummel anymore but everybody knows, and laughs, about that one,,
