Oud à l’Amour

Absolutely stunning. If you miss the real Promise, this could scratch the itch. The best thing is that it's not identical, but it has the specific same magical accord that's missing from the tragic reformulation of Promise, while also having more to offer besides.

Very pure Woody perfume for oud lovers

Beautiful woody-oriental chypre by Dominique Ropion under his own creative direction. Oud à L'Amour opens up with a genre defining accord that Ropion first utilized in Promise: cypriol, ambroxan, patchouli and IBQ sweetened with nuances of honey and spices. Immediately a juicy fruitiness and a good dose of pepper join the bombastic opening. At this initial stages one might dismiss Oud à L'Amour as just another rendition of Promise, but the fragrance has much more to offer. Once the opening subsides, a deeply resinous base emerges with a variety of roses blooming in the midst of it. Most notably labdanum and benzoin can be perceived, that lend the fragrance an ambery sheen and leathery nuances. Below the surface, oakmoss is anchoring the composition further. The resulting smell is a complex resinous-ambery chypre with a musk structure that is not a million miles away from something like The Night. A fragrance that is round and deep with great balance.

I love Promise and he’s trying to copy it by changing apple for pineapple in the opening. Having said that, I find this rich and pleasant but the price is ridiculous.

Interesting floral woody chypre which has no real oud in it but definitely gives out discrete oudy vibes throughout its wear. The perfume opens with pink pepper, pineapple and geranium. The heart is all rose. The perfume settles on an oud like accord (made of labdanum, patchouli and oakmoss), benzoin, cypriol and oakmoss. Overall a nice, elegant wear but nothing that is really new and many better real oud alternatives available at similar price points. Enjoy!

The scent is linear, a previously used fragrance. Launched by the French company Man around 2009, it has a purely masculine character. An attempt at reformulating his initial masterpiece, Promise. I would say that of all the iterations of Promise that Dominique Ropion had created for other brands, this is the one where he attempted to take it in a bit of a different direction. Regardless of what the notes shown are, it’s hard not to make that connection to Promise once you’ve smelt this. Apple is not listed in the notes, but I certainly pick it up in the opening.. Or, it could be the Pineapple with the other notes that somehow recreate that same accord. The other main distinction I’m picking up is an earthy/hay note, which I think is attributed to the addition of oak moss. Aside from that, a quick comparison between the notes listed here and in Promise will show you the few tweaks made to create a slightly different scent profile, whilst still maintaining an overall similar DNA. I will not speak of the redundancy of owning both, as that can be quite subjective; however, of the entire collection, the two that stand out would be this, and A Rose is a Rose, which is my clear favorite.

Promise lite. Totally redundant. Its not Ropion at his best. I think he made this line in a week - boring sketches from older perfumes.

Notes look really great, my favorite out of the line.
