Hussar

Great leather, not super aggressive, but a leather through and through that hits both an appeal for leatherlovers, as well as people who are just getting into them. It's not really for you if you dislike leather though, so you gotta like the note because leather is the star of the show. Opens to a smell of cloves, with this murkiness that comes with old stone buildings, or a wooden loft. Then transitions into a very elegant, creamy leather, which is paired well with a very mild vanilla. It's not really a vanilla where you'd notice it if you just smelled it as a first-impression, but you can tell that something sweet is balancing up against the leather. It's almost lactonic and suede-like, or with a leather like a freshly made leather bag. Once the dust settles and the middle notes have kind of done its thing, the leather in the base is paired well with vanilla and some woodiness coming from the vetiver, and a slightly tarry wood It has this loft-like or old stone-castle smell along with the woody leather. If you're looking for a leather scent that's not just a Tuscan Leather clone, and has a little more to it, while still being good for every-day wear, this could be signature scent worthy. Picked this up on my honeymoon in Florence. This was my first truly leather fragrance, and I've enjoyed wearing it. I don't have the olfactory sophistication to decipher any other notes in the fragrance, but all in all I really like it.

Again, my main gripe with this line is the lack of imagination and creativity. Some of their fragrance are actually pretty decent but they all feel like been there done that type of stuff. Hussar is a tarry industrial leather a-la Nostalgia and Map Of The Heart Black but sweeter than either. So, smoky leather, dark spices and woods on a sweetish / vanillic base. Nice and competently done but ultimately derivative. Rating: 6.5-7/10
