Perfume Calligraphy

I don't know why Estee Lauder decided to discontinue Calligraphy collections. Both Oud and saffron notes is foreign to the western market. I agree with suhaesa this fragrance is a mild version compared to the Middle East. These two notes are garnished as valuable as gold..very expensive to produce a high quality aroma. This juice isn't a Kilian version at $300 yet it comes across as a woodsy-spicy-oriental fragrance being phenomenal at a fraction of the price. Both Myrrh and patchouli/amber with a touch of rose gives this juice depth balancing the warm/woodsy/spicy blend with hint of sweetness coming from the rose ♥ Longevity and Silage is very high lasting well over 8hrs. Your able to smell this juice about 2ft away. Finally, I had tried this fragrance about 6 months ago. One day I decided to go and buy this fragrance to find out it was discontinued. I contacted Estee Lauder to know where else I could buy it. Unfortunately they weren't able to locate a bottle with their program Lost but not forgotten. For the first time in my life I had to buy this fragrance through EBay. I never would of bought without trying it. About this fragrance...Calligraphy is an awesome well made juice perfect during the fall/winter months especially..a very SOPHISTICATED fragrance. 9.5/10....Estee Lauder.. PLEASE BRING THIS FRAGRANCE BACK.

#1299 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant . It's an absolute tragedy that this scent is becoming impossible to find even on eBay at an outrageous price of $300+. Qurashi's "Safari Homme" is nearly identical in scent. The best price I can find for that is $170. To me this is the peak of the Arab perfumer's art. Rosey, oudy, saffron magnificence without going all "grandma" as so many do. The only thing that comes close in the lower end price range is Armaf's "Black Onyx" which unfortunately is missing the saffron note this fragrance does so very, very well. I put this on before doing my morning laps at the lake and there was a woman behind me who caught up to me and said "Your cologne is absolutely amazing! What is it?" I'd say that's an endorsement. This is a cool weather scent. Not the sort of oud scent that's offensive, but I still would stick to using this for romantic encounters, not casual or business use. The quality is first order all the way. If you enjoy classic Middle East perfumery as I do, and can get your hands of this at a price you can handle, get it before it disappears (The Qurashi scent will do as well).

Properly Arabic. A Middle Eastern smell of rose, saffron, & oud. The oud smells like an oriental woody accord rather than your classical oud oil/wood. Rose & saffron dominate the smell, & are orientalized by that oriental woody accord of oud & bitter myrrh. There is an undertone of very sweet, warm spicy cinnamon underneath it all. As it dries down, the sweetness & the bitterness dial down significantly, giving way a soft, lightly-woody Arabic rose/saffron/myrrh smell. Rosy, saffron, myrrh, oud, warm, Arabic, woody, bitter, mildly-spicy. It does remind me of Armaf's Shades Wood, which is supposedly a clone of By Killian Rose Oud, which Boadicea the Victorious copied, too, with Blue Sapphire. Also that Arabic bitter myrrh note is very reminiscent of Guerlains' Bois Mystérieux. This is not a very oudy scent but it is a very Arabic/Middle Easter one. This is a great wear in winter times, leans masculine but a mature woman can wear it easily. I "Love" it

I've had this fragrance for a few months now, and have just realised that I haven't done it justice by writing a review! This is an amazing and high quality scent featuring the listed notes in perfect harmony. No single note is over played, and it's uniqueness is quite remarkable. Longevity is easily over 8 hours, and probably much more. Calligraphy is sweet, but not ridiculously so and the oud is just one note in an olfactory symphony. This is a great find, and in a world of weak, but expensive generics, false promises and, frankly, bullshit, this is a beautifully crafted, honest and well calibrated masterpiece. The list price is approx £110, but can be found for less than £50 online (I paid £39.95 for a genuine bottle, boxed and sealed). I'm also waiting for the 2 flankers, Calligraphy Rose and Calligraphy Saffron to come down in price a bit, so that I can try them too. In a sea of unworthy blind purchases, this jewel is well worth the purchase.

After smelling quite a few rose and oud combo's the last few months, I keep coming back to it. I love it. I like it inspite of the synthetic plastic vibe it sometimes gives off as the rose & the oud interplay with each other. It's hard to say. Everything is subjective to your personal tastes anyways. It just goes to show that something can be stunning just being what it is. It's that saying "It is what it is". I can not be sure if the oud is synthetic or if its the rose that is natural. But there is something plastic but very REAL about this one. The only way I can describe it is. Imagine you have a blow up doll. A very BEAUTIFUL blow up doll. A captivating and stunning creature. Granted, it's not a real person. And it never could be. But it is beautiful in it's own right. Despite the fact she(he) can't answer your questions or tell you anything about herself (himself), S(he) fills a need.

I'm in love! my perfect oudh perfume that I can wear without restraint. I get a lot of soft non medicinal oud with rose and patchouli and woodsy notes. So perfectly blend together, yet the oudh is there at all stages. The notes keep popping up, at different intervals. Very Arabic but light enough to please the novices to oudhs. I also find the name very original. Calligraphy is an art, this perfume is a piece of art, it is like the arabic letters, sometimes round, sometimes edgy:)Did I mention I am in love?

I can ́t believe all the negative reviews this gem has gotten. This one is absolutely fantastic. It's NOT even close to the ordinarie rose/oud combos that all brands seems to have at least one version of. This is so well executed, the rose is not too sharp, the spices are not to much and the wood notes are not overpowered. All the notes play along so nice. Unisex imo and a nice night out fragrance for cooler weather. Love it!

One of my all time favourites... the rose is immediate and dark, juicy and moist, almost bitter (but not), with a velvety, earthy, saffron edge, standing proud on a woody base. Unctuous. More-ish. Heady. Luxurious. Absolutely gorgeous. It lasts, and projects, but I never find it overpowering. In private, I blast myself with Calligraphy and wallow in its utter brilliance. I will never be without this stunning masterpiece.

A resinous, spicy scent with just a touch of rose entirely in the style of the rest of the trio of fragrances in the Perfume Calligraphy series. There is a clean rosy-woody accord with a sprinkling of spices. There is much character in this scent, even if it does not reach the heights of the Rose version. An understated elegance sometimes says more than powerful presence.

I am now convinced that the plastic I smell is a plastic rose. The nice thing about that is it will never wilt. I still love this one despite how fake I find it.

Very long lasting but also pleasant scent. It's warm and rich, suitable for colder days. One of my favorites.

This is a fragrance which tries to display the oud note in a subtler kind of way more akin to western perfumery. The oud note is subdued and is underlying at the base. The saffron and other spices combined make this fragrance very pleasant and I really can't see how this would offend anyone. It's well blended in my opinion. Probably good for people who do not like their oud very strong or medicinal. Very good effort. Edit: I've since discovered that it's the other way round. This is a Western-made perfume designed to appeal towards a Middle Eastern market! I would say that it that purpose it somewhat succeeds. But the problem is most Middle Easterners will prefer a stronger, more authentic Oud note, whilst most Westerners will find this a little strong for their tastes. It's almost like it "halfway" succeeds at both. But I like it! I think its good either way.

OK, there are lot of rose/oud fragrances around these days, so there's nothing original here. But I really like it - I sampled it in Doha airport, and just bought a bottle in the UK. But what puzzles me is its market. Apparently it's targeted at the Middle Eastern market (and it's not widely sold the UK), but I don't see this toned-down oud note satisfying such customers, who I would expect to be more discerning. To me it comes over as a rose/oud blend that's been tailored for Western noses - that suits me fine, but it means I don't get what they're trying to do with it. (Oh, and I'll rush to get a bottle of Nivea oud aftershave if I ever see one :-)

WANNABE SOPHISTICATED _______________________________________________________ Aramis, long lost forgotten fragrance house of ancient times, launched 2012 a new fragrance on the market. It was supposed to relaunch the name 'Aramis' - but it failed to do so. It (Aramis) looked deep into the mirror and decided to launch a product, that should be as sophisticated as calligraphy itself. Calligraphy is a quite powerful oud-fragrance. In the beginning I could only sense the oud, but shortly after, the myrrh broke through and took over. Longetivity: - 8/10 Sillage: - 9/10 All in all: 7 out of 10 points (very oud-y, nothing new under the sun)

Really light fragrance, very little depth on any of the notes, Longevity is average around 5-6hrs, projection is very light. if you use any kind of eastern Oud fragrances this will pretty much be a disappointment, i get very little if any oud from this. i get light woodsy notes with rose lingering in the background. Might be better served using it as a "Summer Oud" as it will work better with higher temperatures i feel. If you can find it cheap its worth a punt but 100% dont pay retail for this, it smells really good in its own right but just lacks a bit of a punch & a bit of depth

The perf is actually cool,it's a bold combination of oud and rose,but it must be given a period of time to dry down before you can really enjoy it. What I usually do is toning it down with a sweet fragrance such as Tom Ford Noir de Noir,as the fragrance is too potent. That combination made it a masterpiece. Anyway my advice is you should test it properly before buying.

عطر شتوي ثقيل.. يشبه عطر بلو سافاير العطر رسمي جدا.. ولا يصلح الا للاجواء البااارده فقط في المجمل.. عطر يستحق الشراء .. ثمنه مناسب جدا مقارنة بعطر بلو سافاير باهظ الثمن ابدعت هذه الدار في خلطة العود والزعفران والورد وهي بلا شك دار عطور ذات تجربة قديمه محترمه جدا انصح به كثيرا 8.5/10

الخط العربي هذا العطر الذي تم تقليده بشكل كبير سواء الشركات الاوربية او العربية .. اذا كنت ممن اعجب بعطر بلو سفايار من بوديسيا اشتر هذا العطر فهو الاصل كذلك عبدالصمد القرشي قام بتقليده .. احياناً اشعر ان العطر هذا هو نسخة كوكو مدموزيل الرجالية .. بوجهة نظري العطر مزعج ولا تعجبني رائحته .. الثبات والفوحان بغاية الرضا تقييمي للعطر ٥/١٠

It's sooooo sweet, i don't get oriental notes at all, mostly lemon and rose on a soft base of whatever. I couldn't find any oud there, very soft wood far away - yes, oud - no. The scent recembles Courreges In Blue which my mom had in 80s.

a middle eastern scent....a finer lighter version of oud and rose.. not so velvety though ..not so deep(compared to real oudah and arabic perfumes)but i am sure its deep enough to the western nose!.. its a light oud and rose connotation..nice..uplifting.. when you first smell it.. but for the authentic arabic noses its too ..hmmmmm just something s not quite in its place.. something missing..to make it a full rounded perfume...but don't get me wrong ..its a nice unisex perfume ..trying to mend the east and the west together in a perfume.. actually its trying to be a pure arabic scent but with a lighter touch.. its missing the depth of oud.. and the fullness and roundness of rose with oud..as in thierry mugler miroir mirror.. and estee lauder mystique wood. ..and juliet has a gun the golden midnight oud..or david yurman limited edition the brown and the gold...all those were excellent oud medleys ..i feel the aramis one is more manly ,its not feminine at all.. its a harsher note of oud, crispier, and cleaner, not full bodied..not sentimental..or multidimensional.but i think it will be a hit in the middle est especially Saudi Arabia and the gulf..they really love such scents.. and if a perfume does not contain oud and rose its considered good enough.. also they like amber and musks.. i didn't buy it smelled it 3 different times at the mall.. for the first time my husband was visiting us on a holiday and actually offered to buy it and i said no ..if you want it, you can get it for you! it actually smelled good, filling the entire mall fashion dome in Dubai mall.. it smelled refreshing for oud and its perfect for abaya or black cloak wearers, for its long lasting and doesn't turn weird after awhile. its true to its form and simple and pure. its name is written in Arabic meaning Arabic hand writing or calligraphy..and the smell is so liner just like its name you can almost smell the black ink as oud and it is a transforming experience with perfumery ..it seems that oud rose all middle eastern and oriental deep mysterious scents are whats in ..maybe they have executed everything and those are pretty new materials to the west that's why they are being experimented with to great length in this century and i believe many to come ..only to get better and finer its yet not that up there to the standard of authentic Arabic perfumes or at least to the taste of their people ..it takes many centuries to refine any perfume industry ..i mean look how long it took the french to reach to where they are today ..so as a culture it also took thousands of years for Arabs and Indians to have their own heritage in perfumery..and its up to this generation to bridge the gap between the nations and create or at least try to come up with universal grounds in perfumery that is race less gender less and simply humane.. rating 4.3 out 5

Review based on a decant of Calligraphy and on a bottle of Histoires de Parfum Ambrarem: Aramis Callygraphy sahres only three components (saffron, Amber and Agarwood) with Ambrarem, but in my experience they have amazing ressemblances (unless I received the wrong decant of Callygraphy, which I don't believe based on previous experiences). I tested both on skin and on fabrics and went to the same conclusion. Very in the background in Callygraphy I can perceive the citrus vibe Ambrarem has not. In Ambrarem I got a little bit of animalic note Calligraphy lacks. Nevertheless the are very similar. This makes me ask to what extent the perfume pyramid is useful. Beside, the perfume pyramid does not explain how both fragrances get the tobacco/alcoholic beverage aroma that sprouts from the listed components. So, if you are complaining for the discontinuation of Calligraphy, Ambrarem might be a possibility to be tested.

My cologne vendor recommended this juice to me last year and I wasn't interested. Actually, I'm not a fan of Oriental floral scents. Since I'm building my "Oud 2015 Collection", this cologne would be a guinea pig in that Collection. Would be giving this a trial soon! ********************************************************* UPDATE: MY REVIEW ON CALLIGRAPHY: This cologne opens with superbly rosy accords in 5-15mins, later on it metamorphoses to saffron with mild Oud hovering in the background. I project its longevity to be 8-10hrs max. This is a sui generis (unique) cologne ideal for evenings, but could also be worn to work. The seeming relentless presence of rose makes it a unisex cologne. Another "blind buy" I've got no regrets for! Well done, House of Aramis!

Very sexy, smoldering, warm, spicy, strong yet soft at the same time. There is an instant burst of insence and rose however a few minutes later it softens and settles to a warm oudy and spicy scent which stays lose to the skin. My husband absolutely loves this... We got it on our trip to Malaysia... It's absolutely lovely.... I am not a big fan of rose scent which in this fragrance isn't too apparent. It blends well with the spices and oud. It's just a hint of rose which makes it soft enough and feminine enough... I don't like the new version of rose calligraphy since the emphasis is on the rose. It's just too medicinal not the sexy oriental potion that the original calligraphy is... Its one of my favorites... On my second bottle ;)

Very seductive, smoky, resinous and spicy, in other words magnificent, if you go for that type of scent. The oud here is smoky and kept in check by the rose and spices that alongside saffron give a very unique result. all the notes are in perfect harmony and they blend together to perfection. it is not too sweet, which I love, and leans towards the masculine side imho. Rose and Oud are perhaps quite a common combination, but here the end result is sultry and very balanced, timeless but not old fashioned. I also own The Rose edition but found it way too sweet. The rose here is drier and less overbearing. A wonderful concoction, perfect for winter!

tried this on my skin tonight at the mall at first it was a bit sweet for my taste so i didn't pay attention to it and then i went to have a cup of passion fruit tea with my friend at one of the cafes outdoor, the frag started to cool down and the weather was so lovely and warm with a bit of a chill and i was getting all those hints from the fragrance, it's so lovely it has a subtle combination of rose and oud, there's no stinky note from the oud (usually oud fragrances do) i couldn't keep myself from sniffing my arm, if you wonder how rich middleeastrens smell then take a sniff from Calligraphy ;)

A lemon-oud-saffron start to this one, with some bitterness like grapefruit peel, quite clean and soapy. The rose kicks in after a minute and it's a light, tea-rose kind of rose, rather than the deep, bloody rose of Calligraphy Rose. Give it 20 minutes and it's a lovely warm oud scent with a touch of rose and patchouli - perhaps slightly more masculine than the flankers, but can still be worn by a woman. It's less throat-catchingly dry than the flankers also. I'm very glad to add this to my collection - I love Calligraphy Rose and Calligraphy Saffron but this one proved harder to find.

This is definitely not your Boots counter perfume, and it's a bit of a stormer in terms of strength and longevity. Such a shame that I just don't get on with it. I don't get any rose, or lemon to my nose. I just feel like I've fallen face first into a bonfire in a cardamom field. It's all too, too much for me even hours later. I've handed my sample off to a man friend, who seems a much better fit.

give it time, give it time... It takes a good 30-60 minutes, but then what remains is amazing - and lasts for hours! Warm, dark, a little so key with a heavy dark rose always lingering in the background. Says unisex, but is almost a little too rosey for men. A hint of oak moss and leather would have rounded it off a bit (I cheat and add a spary of Van Cleef &Arpels' Pour Homme)

I have the black square wooden cap and dam it's very very potent i was going to sell it so glad i didn't as at first it was way to heavy for me. If anyone has a really sweet fragrance please try layering with this i did with van cleef & arpels precious oud and honestly created a amazing aroma. That has killer silage and Longevity.

leke.ayoola I got this perfume yesterday for about 100usd in Nigeria,it nice but the oud note isn't has I wanted it....sadly the bottle broke the day after...sadddddddd. I got mine for 78 dollars @Elemoh perfumery in Lagos Nigeria, eh yah so sad your perfume broke.its okay ,to me it is similar to Estee Lauder wood mystique.

نمیدونم چرا این برند ا انقدر گیر دادن به عود و رز! والا خوش به حال عرب ها! با این عطر ها فقط عرب ها عشق و حال میکنن. من که اصلا خوشم نیومد. این رو عطر فروش به زور برام تست کرد. بو ترشی گندیده میداد! اسانس گیری از عود کار هر برندی نیست. اسانس گیری های مصنوعی میشه نمونش این عطر و کارای جدید بر پایه ی عود. فقط شیشه عطر جالبه.

Sprayed this at the outlet mall by my house and the first note I got was pure melon! Which later I find was really saffron. It's been on skin about two hours now and has lasted quite long for a Aramis fragrance. I don't detect Oud but the spillage and projection make it up for me. Will consider a full bottle! 7.5/10

Just dipping my toes into our and I found this lovely. I ran into it at a Lauder Company store in an outlet mall and I was very curious about it. A bit masculine, but I can usually pull it off. I'm not sure about a full bottle. Would love this on my husband who alas, does not wear scent.

EQ (equalityfragrances on YT) mentioned this smells like BTV Blue Sapphire (in the air). I picked up decants of this & Al Quarshi Blend to compare. I love rose blended with saffron incense resins spiced fruit murr booze any combination of any of those.

Any oudh afficionado would already have one (or several) of the classic oudh-rose-saffron frags (in attar/itr form) or one of the recent alcohol-based crossovers (Montale, Amouage, etc.) Is this really necessary?

I have a lot of oud fragrances and this is very well composed. It takes the chypre and fougere aspects of perfumery and merges it with rose and oud. Avoid the negative reviews! This is a well blended fragrance!

The note of Oud is very strong, it overtakes the rose and only at the end of the day you have the spices left !!! It is a classic oriental perfume.

Received my new bottle with silver cap but did not come up to my expectations. My be the juice along with bottle has been changed.

This smells nice but it's not similar to Blue Sapphire. It reminds me more of Dior Ambre Nuit. Not heavy on the Oud.

How in the world could anyone compare this to Courreges in Blue????
