Musk Lave

This is quite similar to the still available Areej le Dore Al Majmua What's the difference? Musk Lave does the bergamot in a more lush, smooth way. It's the weak point of Al Majmua, very sharp and piercing there Musk Lave is a bit sweeter, kind of syrupy. More dense (extrait vs EDP) and uniform compositionally. There's a more leathery quality to Lave. The deer musk leaves a subtle chocolatey note. They dry down very similarly - a gorgeous, earthy, somewhat musky, powdery orris. Al Majmua is a bit more spicy, lighter, more airy, more powdery, accents the florals. For $190 MSRP, given the choice, I'd pick Majmua every time to support Russian Adam. It beats $500-$1000 and supporting the secondary market in this instance Musk Lave is good, don't get me wrong. More of a collectors piece at this point.

I get a leathery vibe from this like a really dry, clean saddle or something. I have to really dig to pick out the lavender and when I do detect it, it's only the menthol-esque part of lavender... the blending is super smooth. Opening is a little smoky/funky but when it starts to dry down after 20-30 mins this starts to balance out and the other nuances come forward. At this point it smells so fresh and thought it is powdery, it's dry and fresh. I love it. Might need a back up bottle. I feel this is more overlooked than others from ALD and as such is still available for good prices. I tried before buying which is always smart but if you like Adam's other stuff then you should be fine with this too.

Quite possibly the best lavender on the market currently. In the opening you'll get this aged bergamot. It is as if the acidity from the fruit has been removed, and you are left with just the pure fruit smell. Delightful. Osmanthus is just a whisper providing that little extra touch to the florals that soften that lavender a bit. Musk is so expertly blended you might not even think this was a natural deer musk perfume. This juice is beyond smooth. Easy for anyone to like. Maybe a little sweeter than most people might expect but this is a welcome aspect of the fragrance for me. The base of mostly oakmoss and labdanum is made only smoother from the addition of iris. Another winner from Russian Adam.

Fortune does indeed favour the bold. This fragrance is like no other and I still haven't figured out if I like it. I know I am happy I own it, I know it is unique, I know that it uses crazy rare ingredients that spans over a century and trots through the entire globe to create a "fougere like no other". But, I don't know if I love it. Russian Adam loves animalics, and this possibly is best described as the best anamalic fougere on the market. But as it is bold, daring and risky - it cannot then be mass appealing. So by design, it will be loved and not liked. Therefore, sample for sure before buying but do sample because this does display extraordinary talent and aptitude.

OMG the first 90 seconds of this is amazing, like nothing I've ever experienced. then, it all changes. Then, the lavender, musk and bergamot start knocking about, and even though it's still nice and pleasant, it isn't as nice as the beginning. The beginning teleports me somewhere. When I was a kid, probably, and almost certainly something to do with food. Maybe those pink musk candies. And then, when that shifts, I'm shaken out of my trance. I'm slapped out of a stupor, I'm like a fiend that finally sees when all the dope is gone, or something similar. The musk finally overpowers the lavender and citrus, and then the dry down begins. I love that opening, though...

In recent years "barbershop" & strong fougere scents have unintentionally become my "thing"... Tom Ford *PRIVATE BLEND* Beau de Jour did it to me... just fantastic, gloriously professional & clean yet assertive... I love it SO much. I bought the 250ml on first sniff. I bought a backup recently, too. And maybe a 100ml, too. You didn't hear that from me, though. So let's just say I had high hopes for Musk Lave coming from ALD. Deer musk + the best aged lavender COMBO you've ever smelled = Total winner for me. It's remarkably satisfying. 100% LOVE.

This is a lavender masterpiece that sets the bar for this genre of fragrance. Who knew a bergamot from the 1920s could be so wonderful? A 100 year old lavender so smooth? A deer musk so nuanced it intrigues even the most amateur of noses. Just brilliant.

Dark musk with leathery properties, ripe and old, lavender is so quintessential, almost quality-oriented, the formula sounds amazingly luxurious. I didn't smell osmanthus. The price is really "unbeatable", the deep soy sauce-colored liquid is thick and the smell is incredibly strong, um... labdanum, patchouli, oakmoss, and frankly, it used to remind me of Estée Lauder's Youth Dew. Compared to Youth Dew, Areej musk lave lacks layers. It is a mixture, a thick aroma of colloidal resin and animal ingredients, suitable for those who seek sensual pleasure. It's not stinky, just a little fishy smell, you will get used to it gradually. Natural raw oils, pure animal extracts, is a rare experience for me.

An interesting and pleasant fougere. The perfume opens with notes of lavender and bergamot. The heart showcases real deer musk with slight sandalwood and osmanthus. The perfume settles on a mossy powdery base of oakmoss surrounded by labdanum and iris. The slight masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and sillage and good longevity. Not hugely innovative in terms of its smell but well blended and pleasing. The real deer musk is well tamed by the lavender and iris. Enjoy!

Musk Lave redefines what vintage means in a modern Chypre. 120 year old bergamot and lavender oil round out an ethereal musk cloud sitting atop sandalwood peaks and oakmoss rivers. If musk could hug you this is what that hug would feel like. Imagine lucid streaks of electric purple emanating out of a glowing Labdanum warmth. Resinous oakmoss dances with smooth sandal for a drydown unlike anything I’ve smelled before. Throw away any notion of this being a barbershop Fougere. In fact this isn’t even close to a barbershop. Instead it feels like fresh powdery musk laden fabric that lines the walls of a tent in some desert oasis that was recently fumigated with pure Mysore. There’s an undeniable warmth from the tonkafied sandalwood and oakmoss that feels so comforting and exotic. At first glance Musk Lave would seem simple. It feels simple in that the complexity doesn’t overwhelm you and this is a wonderful fragrance for anyone wanting to venture into uncharted ALD territory for the first time. However this simplicity is only simple if you allow it. With further introspection Musk Lave reaches incredible depths with easily defined stages of development that seem to go on forever. I easily get 16-18 hours of performance on skin with solid projection for 4-6 hours and excellent silage for almost 8. Overall this is a clean, easy to wear and SAFE scent. It’s versatile with no rough animalic edges or challenging notes. Easy, smooth, wearable. 10/10

Just got my bottle so these are first impressions, but this is really beautiful! It's definitely focused on the natural extracts, and notes don't appear boosted with individual aromachemicals for projection/sillage & longevity. This is not a fragrance to use for other people, but to enjoy & contemplate yourself. Bergamot top note does its thing in a forceful yet transient manner & smells very realistic, not artificially smoothed out, wakes the nose up to enjoy the lavender lead-in to the heart. The heart itself is smooth & fuzzy like the finest velvet, with perfect balance between individual elements so perceived as a unified accord, not so much as separate notes. At least so far, musk is not at all animalic, but there is a leathery hint I guess from osmanthus. Will report back on base later... ETA: After abt 1.5 hours animalic aspect of musk is coming to the fore. ETA: Labdanum, oakmoss, iris base notes are all that's left after 3.5 hours, also beautifully balanced & subdued for contemplative experience.

Musk Lave is not a very complex fragrance but it combines many of my most favorite notes beautifully. It opens with a beautiful bergamot note that feels quite different as it doesn’t have the normal citrusy sharpness, it is almost like a smooth mixture of bergamot and lemon but on the fruity side. The bergamot is complemented by lavender oil which works very well with bergamot but it is not as prominent until it is joined by lavender absolute in the heart which gets prominent on my skin, the absolute is much sweeter than the oil to my nose. Along with the lavender, there is a beautiful aged Mysore Sandalwood and Oakmoss to cover and tame the animalic part of the musk as the musk I get from this fragrance is sweet, powdery and friendly. I get hints of labdanum in the far drydown, but I couldn’t detect the Osmanthus and Iris. Even though the fragrance is listed as a fougere, I see it more on the chypre side, especially in the drydown because of the oakmoss, musk and labdanum.

It is a very potent and rich lavender blended with a hefty dosage of natural deer musk creating a very oily, leathery dryness that has soft herbal feel and a sharply soapy base in the far drydown. It feels simple. But pleasant. For sure a fougere with very rich ingredients, but praised for the promotion of its ingredients which is part of what turns me away. Something that can be found in a similar profile made by Bogue, Prin or Sultan Pasha to name a few. But a good piece to have. Pretty nice! But for me a sample was good enough.

Lavender and musk blended to perfection.Such a joy to wear.Dark herbal lavender and musk goes really well here.If you want to have same feel amphora exotica lavender mirage is a good replacement.Oakmoss and iris also present.Hope Russian Adam makes a part 2 sometimes as this is such a classic.

This is best of the collection: beautiful lavender-bergamot-musk opening. After 10 minutes it is a musk iris skin scent. 9

This perfume sounds amazing. Pity it’s sold out already. I would of blind purchased a whole bottle.
