Mysore Incenza

Firstly, I've never smelled any other perfumes by Russian Adam, although I'd love to, so I'm happy to say I can circumvent all the talk of this not living up to his others etc etc. When I first got into perfume, I found that the common incense note (such as that found in Avignon, and countless others) - the sort of churchey, dry incense, didn't resemble any incense I'd ever experienced. But over time I assimilated that smell into my cognitive bank so it's what I now recognize broadly as incense. When I smelled this perfume, I remembered what incense had actually smelled like to me during my university days when I used to visit a lot of hippy shops and use a lot of joss sticks. At first it wasn't necessarily a great association, as I've moved far past those days and associate that smell with crusty student digs and the lazy stoner/raver student types who were in the periphery, the type of people who sit around getting drunk and high and talking about what's wrong with the world whilst failing to see the profound irony of the situation. Lucky for me this visceral reaction, and almost revulsion, passed quickly as I was distracted by a strange, salty sort of ever-so-slighly bilgey waft coming from my arm..... then jasmine, roses, oh my god, then I realised this was ambergris, which was softly diffusing with the florals from among some citric elemi-esque olibanum. The more I focused the more complex it got. Then I left and went to work, and during the day the perfume really dried down and I was graced by the mysore sandlewood, brooding and ebbing from my skin, close to the skin but seemingly everlasting. Today in Paris it's been snowing and windy all day, and I've been out and about between meetings being blasted with soggy, horizontal sleet, snow and rain, but the perfume endured through it all. I got home at 9pm and while I could still smell it, I couldn't resist another spritz on each wrist, so I'm not sure exactly how long it lasts, seemingly eternally. This is an incredible perfume that I percieve as at once familiar and completely original. It's like coming home to something I love, but I've never actually known it until now.

I find this fragrance far more evocative than many of the previous commentators. For those who know Russian Adam's work over the years, this does not measure up to a not insignificant number. I do think his recent interview posted on Fragrantica earned him a number of critiques, since he is far far far from being modest. In any case, I smell the mysore sandalwood and this itself is a rare treat It is a rare and expensive note. It is stronger to me than the rose note. It has moderate silage and longevity. I am not sure I am going to get a full bottle but I do love what this one does on my skin. It may be my Christmas gift to myself. Sample and try and I think more who love this one will appear.

I can't believe the tepid reviews this beauty is receiving. It is a breathtakingly beautiful mysore sandalwood scent. I think it leans more on the feminine side which may account for some of the critiques because it seems to be mostly men leaving comments so far. Full bottle worthy for this gal in any case. I imagine this is the fragrance trail on Ginger Rogers as she dances cheek to cheek with Fred Astaire in the most iconic scene from Top Hat. Blissful and decadent. Long lasting with moderate silage. The bottle is also gorgeous. Take my money, Russian Adam. TAKE MY MONEY.

Samsara EDT redone by niche standards. Amazing intro that gives me a hint of sweet cherry liquor, but disappears in a flash. Then rose and jasmine appear over the base of sandalwood. At first, rose will be dominant, later on submitting to jasmine. eventually they will even out to a perfect balance. From there on - it smells like a higher quality Samsara, better than the good ol' vintages with their slightly plastic/rubbery facets. No smoke that i was able to detect, no olibanum. Fresh and easy to wear.

@solankia75 you are so right. I'm wearing this beauty again tonight because she called out to me. It is absolutely authentic Mysore sandalwood at its greatest. I am bewitched. It's not even the right time of year to wear this, but Miss Incenza doesn't care a jot and neither do I. This perfume is pastel pink satin sheets and satin pyjamas luxury. Good god. Yes to the thank you.

I think a lot of people don’t commenting here don’t understand or have never smelled Mysore Sandalwood. I’ve smelled many sandalwood fragrances but never as authentic as this one. This one has grown on me more and more on multiple wearings. Another masterpiece by Russian Adam.

I just tried a sample, you can purchase from Sealed Essence. It's a very 👍, fresh Spring and Summer fragrance. I'm getting a fruity aldehydes. No fruits listed, as it may be a jammy rose? It's a strong like for me, not love. I think you could find a niche fragrance, very similar for 1/2 price. We love the dark Areej fragrances like War and Peace, Russian Oud, Oud Zhen. Then Russian Adam showed his perfumer skills in Oud fragrances that weren't so dark, but had earthy and more green nuances, like Royal Barn and Agar de Noir. Perhaps my favorites from Russian Adam. The he has some great fresher fragrances like Aquilaria Blosem, Siberian Summer. This falls in that lighter, fresher group. This fragrance is very pleasant and well blended with nice florals in the background. The rose, incense or sandalwood don't really stand out, just really well blended. Update: From the mid a couple hours in, a really nice smoky East Indian Sandalwood shows up. I thought it was the incense. This has somewhat of a vintage feel, but also modern. Like a Guerlain in quality and vib. This is a safe blind buy, mass appealing. Rating: 8.5/10 Merry Christmas. Emanuel 🎄

Slightly feminine leaning and heavy on the white florals. A touch of sandalwood, a bit of rose, very little incense. It's nice but not what I expected from the scent.

Too much rose for me to enjoy because I don't like the note no matter which kind is used. Once the sandalwood comes in it smells nice. Its obviously of very high quality. Not complex enough to interest my tastes personally. Not very incensey to me, though the incense I burn is almost always an agarwood blend.

Ruined the sacred sadalwood by adding cheap local bazaar curry. Whats wrong with this guy?

Mysore Incenza opens with tart citrusy notes, a prominent lemony rose that has hints of geranium. The opening is very rose-forward scent on my skin surprisingly. There is also a noticeable vintage dusty powdery floral accord that reminds me of Grandenia. As time passes, I start getting cold terpenic frankincense, it doesn’t feel smoky, lemony or balsamic, the perfume loses its sweetness at this stage. The sandalwood doesn’t appear on my skin until the drydown. In the drydown, the sweet warm sandalwood appers along with a slight vanillic sweetness, a vintage powdery accord and oakmoss. Mysore Incensza is not an Indian style sandalwood heavy or incense-based perfume, it leans more towards vintage french perfumery.

Bought the sample set and this is easily my least favourite of the lot. Opening is really bright, like a citrusy amber and it reminds me of these air freshener things my mother had when I was a kid. They had this green/blue rubber jelly thing in them and that’s what the opening reminds me of. Because I keep associating with this, it makes this perfume feel cheap and cloying to me. Dry down is a bit of a creamy sandalwood, but that opening stays there. this is a hard pass for me and unfortunately I really dislike this one.

I have limited knowledge regarding feminine-leaning fragrances but here goes: this reminds me of Tom Ford Rose de Chine and Tom Ford Arabian Wood. Add in the same amber that is used in Dior Ambre Nuit and that’s what you get. A lot of sharp rose, amber, and sandalwood. The incense (if there is any) is more of a green undercurrent than anything else. This isn’t a Catholic mass smell by any stretch of the imagination. Wear with caution because it starts unisex and becomes more and more feminine

Nothing about this smells like incense. It’s a tart, lemony/bitter lime synthetic opening that gives way to powdery, soapy rose. A powdery sweet vanillin starts to take shape in the heart that is slightly floral. A standard issue sandalwood drydown mixes with a heavily synthetic white musk base. Slightly headache inducing. Overall a let down because of the marketing. It’s simple, overpriced and not really something I’d want to wear as better examples exist of this same style but for cheaper.

Sorry to say that but this one feels generic and smells like crowd pleasing fragrances. One can easily find this enjoyable and wear in any occasion. I was looking for a deeper, calming mysore which is really hard to come by in today’s industry standards. It is not a bad fragrance by any means; it is truely niche and classy by all means. However, its name could be misleading for those who are expecting to find a full spectrum mysore sandalwood.

@parkemuth can you explain where Adam is not modest and if you don't have proof not wise to cast aspersions on someone. By All means criticise the work the price, but unless you have concrete proof that hes an arrogant so and so better refrain mate.

Quite disappointing, I must say... A citrusey frankincense, bit of rose, some other florals, and bits and pieces of sandalwood here and there. I don't even know if I want to try this out again... It's not bad, it's just not all that special...

I no longer find Russian Adam's unique style in his latest releases, I'm sorry but this is also a disappointment for me.

Bready tuberose, bright rose, benzoin. That's it for me. No mysore and no incense. Could be so much more.
