Fatal Fougere

When this opens, there is a huge slug of acrid green that pummels you. Now, I love my green forward fragrances: give me lots of galbanum, grass, herbs, tomato leaves, you name it. Here, however, there is something so poorly balanced here. I am not sure if this was the perfumer's attempt to front load this so-called fougere with the note of cilantro and unfortunately adds it a bit too much, but its unnerving. It definitely doesn't feel the way I've come to expect a fougere, classic or otherwise, to feel. This persists, with a lemon that also feels a bit too forward for a fougere concept, and as it dries into the heart, it feels vaguely aromatic, but those cilantro aldehydes and something like cis-3-hexenyl or similar, is overpowering in its harshness, seeming to bury all the more nuanced elements here. The dry down feels a bit static and lifeless, with very little in the way of even the bare minimum coumarin to even qualify a composition with the fougere description. I believe the fatal flaw here with Fatal Fougere is the idea of including a cilantro accord without a skill to keep it tamed and cooperative with the other notes. It feel like the work of a beginning perfumer sharing their development on their journey to some eventual mastery; its quite rough around the edges and not pleasant at all.
