Arrogance Pour Homme

A few days ago got me thinking about Arrogance pour Homme, the first version. A timely article made me want to revisit it. I’ve had about 4-5 bottles of it; the edt, the edp, and there’s little difference in terms of performance; unlike the brochure inside the box, the edp isn’t that much more powerful. My last bottle, just over half way through, from 1986, starts with a powerfully bitter punch. The first thing that comes to mind every time I spray is Bandit. That worn leather smell, slightly bitter, green, smoky. That’s the opening of Arrogance, a typical 80’s leather fougère. Soon after what I mostly get is the dirty florals I’m used to smelling in Kouros, Furyo, and to some extent Ténéré. A sweaty melange of white florals, honey in its animalic facet and spices or spicy florals like carnation, all still covered in the bitter green opening salvo. So many flowers smoked and spiced so that it doesn’t feel or smell like Fracas. It still amazes me how skill and talent can show us so many facets of the same thing. Arrogance isn’t a fragrance that screams. Yes, it’s an 80’s babe; it has sillage, it projects and it lasts well. It’s powerful compared to todays standards. But I find Furyo for instance much much louder. And Kouros it’s a league on its own! Slowly the drydown starts showing. The floral notes start to recede and the leathery castoreum makes itself known. Now, there’s a wonderful talcum halo that softens the leather, calms down the artemisia and the spices, and what you’re left with is a light green smell, slightly sweet and spicy that makes the whole thing smell lived in. The drydown becomes suave, elegant, and here I always catch glimpses of Antaeus; the part where Al Pacino (Cruising, 1981) comes home from the meatpacking district after getting off. This is his alter ego, his loving husband facade. So yeah, for lovers of the above fragrances I’d say Arrogance is a must have. It’s still found cheaply and there are still bottles of the original Pikenz and Dennis formulation available. And for those who don’t really feel this genre or 70’s/80’s powerhouses I’d still say it’s worth trying if you don’t feel like spending the rising bucks for the last remaining bottles of Kouros, Antaeus, Furyo, Paco Rabanne pour Homme etc just to get what they’re about! It might not have the prestige or fame of the others but it has nothing to envy. And Italian perfumery of the past century was magnificent and on par with any French designer. Just don’t expect the monster it’s made to be, it’s strong but easily tamed!

A fine, thick leathery fragrance, very dense and sharp at the same time. Lots and lots of pachouli, with some undercover pepper - tobacco combo. This is the fragrances that announces you, that leaves the trace while you are walking, but guess what? Nobody will say "hey its that cologne guy!" because it creates that aura of class, sophistication and serious business. It smells like that saying "get that man to do a job", it smells like Michael Caine in "Eagle has Landed" and Clint Eastwood in "Where eagles dare". If a commando unit would have their signature scent that would be Arrogance pour homme. This is the scent of honor and pride, a scent that would fit any man regardless of age if that man is capable of presenting himself in serious manner. Not for the jokers.

One of the best fragrances I've smelled in a while. 10/10 This is the fragrance your dad wears on a Friday night after he shaved and is wearing his favorite collared shirt. We're all going to eat Italian food, and your dad wearing Arrogance Pour Homme makes the family complete. There is a comforting fresh spicy vibe in the air that will bring you back to 1982. Arrogance Pour Homme is different, and not a duplicate purchase of any other fragrance. If I was forced to wear one fragrance for the rest of my life, this would be it. Cozy, comforting, and unapologetically masculine in a gentlemanly type of way. WOW, this stuff is so amazing I want to scream. Thanks to my main man Duncan for providing me with the decant.

This is a beautiful fragrance. Masculine, well balanced, spicy, mossy, warm, animalic, perfect for a Man. Biggest issue is the performance and lacking of some notes, poor projection and moderate longevity from the newest release. It is better for someone to get the vintage parfum version, which had much more performance and natural ingredients. They shouldn't kill such a masterpiece, i personally would pay the money to get the best version of this gem possible. An 80's stunner. Edit: actually longevity is pretty good, about 6 to 8 hours, maybe more on clothes but it is really close to the skin, even after the first hour.

This is superior to denim original in every aspect. Denim only has the sharp citrus aspect which I enjoy but everything else is lesser than Arrogance. Even if you don't like denim I would suggest this. This is a top tier old school fragrance which can hold its own against the likes of Kouros, Anteus, Giorgio Beverly Hills for Men etc in my opinion

Men!This is what every classy but virile man need in a collection!It is like combining Antaeus and Kouros togheter!Or to make a old Givenchy Gentleman intense flanker!It delivers oakmoss,honey,tobacco,patchouli,i feel civet in it and maybe castoreum,lavander and geranium,in a glorious way!Powerful,longlasting,and old school!Totally love!

The most successful blind buy I have ever done. I read a review here in fragrantica and I was intrigued, then found a cheaper bottle online and I went ahead and bought it. it is very Masculine green and has an amazing Italian vibe, this is what Robert De Niro was wearing in Casino 1995 movie. This is the true meaning of a hidden Gem.

I love this thing. It may be a little cheap, but it is a well balanced mixture of, say, Pour Lui, Antaeus, Quorum and Givenchy Gentleman. I should have bought it ten years ago in my prime. Great!

Although the Scent is actually a cheapy is still transform up to 3 times and it is not linear at all. Starts very fresh, after 2-5 minutes it starts to smell very cheap like bathroom stones. Then the second stage starts to kicks in. It starts to get a very masculine and barbershopy. Reminds a lot of a 80/90s daddy fragrance. After 1-2 hours the last stage starts to takeover the show (main actor honey). Overall it is a nice fragrance to wear once in while especially in autumn. Yeah Arrogance pour homme for sure will give you some Kouros vibes but not more. Kouros is too different at the end. Sadly cheap ingredients are present and recognizable. Nevertheless a solid fragrance for good money.

This perfume truely belongs to the eighties Men in Black: Antaeus, Trussardi, Van cleef. Dry, leathery, ash/tobacco smell. Bitter, Dark. Sexy Daddy style maybe for someone nowdays. For vintage or untemporary lovers. Yes, a man with a black jacket in leather, sunglasses, brillantine. That's really brings me back to last christmas of Wham and of my childhood of course. Very classic of the 80s. Very good price now (less than 20 euros for 100 ml). Similar to the first Trussardi, more "rude". Clean version of Paco Rabanne. Enormous sillage and long lasting.

It’s more “restroom-like” than Witness or Ferre, but still in that same general territory. And that’s precisely what makes me like it more — because it moves toward that Lipizzan- or Lauder-type negotiation: more difficult, challenging, provocative, capricious, slightly brighter, freer. There’s less of that honeyed, dark coziness here, and more of a sense of dirty air. The spices don’t drill into your head like damn insane in Ted Lapidus PH or Yatagan; instead, they reach a kind of optimum, a point of transition where you have to fill in the meaning yourself, almost decide for yourself. Still, comparing it to Kouros is a mistake — there’s no distinct honey here, none of that warmth; it’s more like the stark 'walls' of Bandit or Elite. Yet it’s not an exceptionally aggressive scent compared to others of this kind.

First 30min: Givenchy Gentleman 1974 with civet put back in, then Leonard Pour Homme -like leather accord comes forward a bit

Current version strongly reminds me of the vtg Givenchy Gentleman, but in a terrible way, absolutely outdated and pungent! It takes all the possible negetivity from Gentleman and then amplifies it, the damp, dark and airy rancid facet of patchouli and moss, makes you feel you are trapped in a cellar with absimal darkness and despire, everything is rotten and it will be out of fresh air very soon. Dont blind buy it even its fairly cheap! Unless you wanna feel 100% old school, I mean the real life outdated,not vintage hipster old fasioned way.

As an avid collector of aftershaves from another era I was very excited for my Arrogance pour homme to arrive after reading many reviews on what it smells like! I trial colognes in 2 stages, first on wrist and hand on day one to take in the notes, day 2 I give it a full wearing to see how it smells around me. My conclusion is that many reviews miss the point in my opinion, yes it starts off with an original denim vibe with the spiciness and green notes and yes it then starts to have a slight Givenchey Gentleman notes with the patchouli, rose and honey, then the kouros animalic and soapy notes drift in and the whole thing then starts to smooth out and you get wafts of late 70s styles like Azzaro pour homme, Leonard pour homme etc:, but what I found is if you dig your nose into the scent the dry down for me is much more closer to Monsieur Carven with it's almost mildly vegetal creaminess, I also get a Patou pour homme vibe in the dry down and maybe a Jules by Dior vibe, its almost a creamy oily note which make it rich in nature. So yes it's similar to others in many ways but for me thats the genius of this cologne, where some say this has no direction and is a mess of many other scents I think the creator had taken what was the essence of what was in at that time and paired them together with beautiful transition so that the wearer can be taken on a journey of many great scents but still having its own uniqueness. Beautifully blended and a beautiful masculine fragrance.

Arrogance is a bold leathery chypre with resemblances to Van Cleef and Arpels, Trussardi Uomo and Morabito's Or Black. Arrogance opens with a slightly bitter blast of artemisia, citrus and spices, but quickly settles into a more smoldering kind of intensity, with the jasmin, rose and carnation midnotes softening the patchouli and cedar. The base notes are leathery and animalic --- musk, civet and castoreum softened by amber, moss and vetiver. This is a scent for a mature man with a great deal of confidence, and who knows how to behave himself in polite society without sacrificing his wild side. There's always a hint of it lurking beneath the surface. The musical analogy it conjures up for me is Miles Davis' "In A Silent Way" --- it's sultry and controlled, but threatens to break out into something much more untamed at any moment. They don't make 'em like this any more, folks --- and it's a damn shame!

I just read about Sub-Saharan products containing Artemisia flying off the shelves to be ingested to fight coronavirus. Artemisia is in a traditional medicine for malaria. I immediately thought of Arrogance for it's heady, herbal, rooty, apothecary vibe. I usually associate that with Italian bitters and I would quite like to sample a drink that tastes like Arrogance smells. One would expect knockout punches and tonic benefits. The camphorous and antiseptic base is powerful, pleasing and present from the get go. Is that only the patchouli or the savory blend? Arrogance smells like it was produced by mortar and pestle. It is crude and alive. The first hours are the pleasure, here. The dry down is quality, throwback, very long lasting, and not interesting.

Ok gents, I have to admit. This could probably be one of my favorite if not MY favorite along with other 2/3 ones. It sat inside of what I call "dirty cleanness" group of colognes. A much much more cleaned out and refined but more popular smelling take of "Kouros" unless for some soapy notes, perhaps better leaning on the side of "Denim Original". After one hour or so, in the background, it gives you just a hint of the feel of a little more fizzy just sprayed opening of "Azzaro Pour Homme". The classic smell you could find certain aged men wearing in a late 80's / early 90's pizzeria eating for a family reunion. Perfect to be wear for some vintage wintery festive vibes.

This is damn good. A strident, take no prisoners, balls to the wall animalic patchouli and oakmoss MACHO MAN juice. This kicks major hiney. The opening is spiky, spicy, somewhat bitter due to the artemisia, with honey, woods and florals entering the picture within a few minutes, and the animalics and patchouli full throttle a half hour in. The dry down is indeed similar to Piguet Bandit as another reviewer pointed out, but it is far more animalic, macho, and verging on vintage Kouros level intensity and bravado. Daddy likes.

I hadn't worn this in years until today. Whoa, this registers a 10/10 on the macho meter. This is a sharp, crude, gnarly patchouli bomb laced with animalic leather, civet, castoreum, loud musk, and who knows what other kind of shit. It isn't a projection beast, but based on its pure scent alone, this is almost comically masculine. I could see this being Dirty Harry's signature fragrance.

If you like YSL Kouros you will love this one..starts off with the greeness of VC & Arpels Tsar ever so slightly... then it resembles the Kouros DNA, excellent scent. Performance up to par to the Powerhouses of the 80's. Vintage only (1982) not the one in the picture above please.

A loud, bareknuckles power scent that smells like a cruder version of Givenchy Gentleman. Arrogance PH is powerful, animalic and just plain rude. It has macho-level patchouli. I like its audacity, but it is a bit unoriginal and generic, in an 80's style sense.

I bought my Arrogance during Covid but the bottle's code declares a 2016 manufacture. I wish I had bought two. Arrogance pour home has everything: great notes and plenty of them, zesty blend, rizz (we called it mojo) and an excellent bottle.

Is this the very same "Arrogance" that professional wrestler Rick "the Model" Martel used to douse himself in with a pesticide sprayer before his matches back in the 80's and 90's??? Could it be!!??

Vintage is just the roughest, sharpest, spikiest thing I have ever encountered in a finished fragrance. blends well with petrol & oil fumes at the hell's angels meetup

Ahhhhhhh yes!! Arrogance!! The smell of a modern man! And as always...my signature scent!!
