Les Nuits

This is my first review. To better understand my feelings about this fragrance, I would like to mention that I am a man, 45 years old, and my wife and I have three children. I have been involved in the niche segment for about three years, and most of my purchases are blind buy. When you look at my collection, you will see that it is quite a mixed bag. Currently, I have over 180 fragrances. If someone told me I could keep only three of them, Les Nuits would definitely be one of them. It would even be there if I could keep only one. In my eyes, or rather my nose, this fragrance is completely unique. I haven't had such a vintage and confident feeling with any other fragrance. It's a strong, beautiful, floral, crystal-clear fragrance, I must to repeat it – crystal-clear, in my opinion, 100% unisex. I have tested it long-term on myself, and short-term on my friends, and on women. I believe it suited everyone. I am a handsome, athletic-built man. I have a very calm nature; I do not talk more than necessary, and when I speak to strangers (for example in a store, on the street, in a restaurant...), I do so in a rather quiet tone, slowly, and pleasantly, with a smile. Most people perceive my demeanor in such a way that they don't know what to think of me and usually respond with respect. This causes them not to speak more than necessary as well. I write this so you can imagine that I attract attention with my appearance and demeanor, but at the same time, people seem to be afraid to approach me or engage in conversation. This fragrance has indeed loosened many tongues. The number of compliments I have received about it from strangers in the past month is more than I have received in three years combined for all the fragrances I wear... and I wear them daily and meet a lot of people. My recommendation: whether you are a woman or a man, if you like strong floral fragrances, are around 40+, are confident in a good way (self-aware) and dress elegantly, this is a 100% safe blind buy... in fact, it's a must-have fragrance for you. add: I know that rose in perfumes is quite polarizing. In this one, I don't smell it after about half an hour to an hour; the predominant note remains the iris. add2: I recommend exploring the entire range of Astier de Villatte.

I find Les Nuits to be a test of my perception. Now, that certainly does not mean its a challenging wear; on the contrary, it brings me much joy. Yet, just as the original formula was intended to be worn by George Sand for a meeting of minds on a summer night, has an air of intellectualism. Those who stroke their chins questioning mystery, and Les Nuits could be thought to interrogate the wearer on their relative comfort—or discomfort—towards mystery. Iris often feels both mysterious and erudite, it's cool gauzy powder a veil begging to be penetrated by the right nose, to get down to the heart of the matter. It is predominant in the first act of Les Nuits, tinted with a mulligan syrup of sour-sweet rose, antique maroon. Round and elegant, this sumptuous bouquet softens to a familiar and comforting lull, not like Vol de Nuit, another nocturnal, steadfast beauty that eases into repose. It makes me ask the question: "what was all of that?" and then has me looking forward to wearing it once more, to take notice of what wasn't apparent before, until it may eventually all come together. It is like a lovely little puzzle that builds a picture of beauty, yet I won't know what exact beauty it is until its complete. A possible activity: apply on skin and on the pages of 'Histoire de ma vie' as I read it.

This brand has such a unique artistic aesthetic about it I love everything about it - its history, its ceramics, its candles and now the perfumes! Les Nuits is gorgeous! I think looking at the notes you may think that it is light somehow airy a bit powdery scent, but to me, this is on the contrary - a rich opulent kind of even deep and mysterious a bit scent. It's not dark but there is just something secretive about it, it has that mystery that really attracts you. at the dry down, it even turns out to be a little bit jammy. There is no old vintage feeling that you might think, to me this is a very modern take on the iris and rose notes.I would not compare it to L'heure Blue, they are very different to me and I am quite familiar with that scent. In L'heure Blue iris and violet notes are very dominant and in Les Nuits iris note is blended pretty well with rose and other deeper notes so it does not feel just floral and iris-based. To me, this is a scent you want to wear on grand occasions, somewhere extravagant. A scent for late evenings. Beautiful creation!!! A true niche style!

On me Les Nuits opens with a scent of powdery lipstick, but almost instantly we can smell a luxurious burgundy rose with a lingering syrupy aroma. The bouquet is completed by ylang-ylang and jasmine, which blend so well with everything else that even I, who don't like white flowers, love it. Behind the florals is a base of benzoin, earthy patchouli and a bit of powdery labdanum. The fragrance is really round and balanced, and unless you know the pyramid, it's hard to extract specific notes other than florals and patchouli. For example, I don't feel anything animalic.

Incredible scent, deep, complex, sexy, super rich and vintage. It was love at frst sniff for me. A real classic floral, kind of a Portrait of a lady for iris. The nice thing is : the rose is incredible, the iris too and the patchouli is like the cherry on top.

Why the notes didn’t mention aldehyde at all? I feel that it’s pretty prominent in the opening. Aldehyde & ylang2. Then the iris comes along & moves along the way within the fragrance’s lifespan. This is the same iris as in the parfum d’empire cuir ottoman. This is a blind buy so I was afraid its going to be too similar to POAL, it didn’t though. This fragrance is a nod to the classic floral chypre back in the days, so for that I really applaud the perfumer because I think it’s a success. He is one of my favorite perfumer, heck he’s everyone’s favorite perfumer. Do I like it? I think there’s some facets that I didn’t yet get , need to get a full wear a couple of times.

I didn't really like the opening at all, and walked away from my test strip until a few hours later when I revisited it and discovered that it evolved into something truly magnificent and evocative. Wonderfully blended and balanced (D. Ropion knows what he's doing, of course).

Powdery like a cashmere hug of Iris. The longer it sits the longer it's a very vintage smelling rose and reminds me of my great grandmothers perfume powders. Very much a skin scent that doesn't last long but feels sophisticated and pretty.

A powdery vintage style floral centered around a nice rose, this scent is a part of a series to recreate historical scents using modern perfumery techniques. In this case, this is a scent which was specially commissioned by George Sand to be worn in a gathering of intellectuals in a mansion in 1840s France. The scent opens with notes of orris and patchouli leading to a firm rose heart and finally settling into a powdery base of synthetic musk, vetiver and slight leather. The unisex scent has moderate projection and longevity. It is quite pleasant but all this has been done before. Enjoy!

somehow attractive powdery rose, not sharp, softened with a teech of patchouli, iris. old fashioned, soft. a little on the sweet side.

Enthused by the beautiful weirdness of Le Dieu Bleu, thrilled by the medicinal herbal opening of Artaban, my heart stopped for one bit when I enhaled Les Nuits; that gorgeous iris, that powderiness and that masculine vetiver drydown, all screamed VINTAGE. and so my love story started for the perfume that allegedly George Sand would have worn. Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin. She was a 19th-century literary (and sometimes political) figure who wrote scores of novels, plays, essays, and more. She is perhaps best known, however, for her (then) unconventional actions which raised polite society’s eyebrows in horror: she dressed in men’s clothing, smoked cigars, and had high-profile affairs. she was known, was largely indifferent to most of society’s strict rules and customs. She was a free-spirit who followed only the dictates of her heart and of her fierce intellect. It made her fascinating to the men around her, some of whom became quite obsessed with her. The most famous example: her long-time lover, Frederic Chopin: this was George Sand. Ropion started with a dusty iris enriched by ionones, a touch of carroty sweetness to make it amalgamate better with a strong sirupy dense rose wich is both sour and sweet (yeah, we talk Ropion here, the master of florals), a tiny bit candied (violet is present andnot listed and so is a faint fruit accord). A bouquet that is extremely round and gorgeously elegant to lay down on a leathery vetiver base. IG @alexolympia6

Aldehyde Chypre. Reminds me of Caleche by Hermes, and Gold for Women by Amouage, but with more leather and incense nuance. also reminds me of Vol de Nuit by Guerlain.

This fragrance is incredible. It holds that vintage element, aldehydic florals, but there is warmth and sweetness present at the same time.

An iris-forward powdery floral blend. A little bit sour, maybe from the leather note. Not my jam really.

George Sand was a tomboy so it should be pretty unisex :D
