Cacao Porcelana

A boutique in my city added this line of fragrances to their library in late 2021 and I ended buying a discovery set in mid-2022 but I own so many fragrances, discovery sets and samples that I hadn't yet added any of the fragrances into my rotation. Today, I finally picked a scent from the house to tryout and wear, and lucky me, it's Cacao Porcelano. This fragrance is gorgeous on skin. It smells absolutely amazing. It reminds me of a smoother and creamier version of Valmont's Blu Cobalto. The scratchiness in Blu Cobalto gets on my nerves after awhile but Cacao Porcelano has none of that abrasiveness. It does open a bit dusty but it doesn't last long, if that's your favorite aspect of this then try the above mentioned fragrance.As Cacao Porcelano dries down, there is smooth creaminess that comes out with a bit of a booziness. It smells like a boozy hot chocolate on me. It's absolutely intoxicating. And so well blended. Once it hits the mid, everything is so together that I can't detect any individual notes. It's just magic as it all blends together into one magnificent work of art. The downside is that it's really very pricey. The full bottle is $305 CAD for 100ml. I have some fragrances that are more expensive than that but I'm not sure Cacao Porcelano is quite worth that much. It is absolutely a work of art but I don't know that I would wear it enough to even make a dent in the full bottle. Luckily, the boutique that carries it sells 1ml samples for $5 and I can just buy a few samples here and there for when I feel like wearing it.

Holy moly. Thick, unctuous, rich, dark, gooey, bittersweet, strikingly intense chocolate, the 80%+ cacao solid kind, the really really good stuff that snaps hard in your hand and fires off all sorts of spicy, warming, exotic, jungly notes in your mind. Just astonishingly charismatic cacao all the way through. I am no gourmand fan - the only thing this chocolatey I've ever worn for myself is Arquiste's Anima Dulcis, which is spicy enough to get far enough away from the dessert trolley for me to feel comfortable - but this is incredibly solid work. So robust it's almost ganache-y (without the sugar), and with the patch throwing a few more adult shadows into its contours. Still very much a food-centric approach rather than more multi-faceted tobacco-and-booze-and-smoke inflections of something like PG Coze or Slumberhouse Ore though. All melts into maybe the most grown-up gourmand imaginable... only thing to match it I've ever smelled is Abdes Salaam Attar's very tropical and even wilder Maya / Chocolate Spicy, which adds great tangs of orange, so is a different beast. Cacao Porcelana is definitely edibly good - though I still prefer to eat my chocolate rather than wear it. Pretty much a definitive answer to the question "what could, what should, an adult niche treatment of cacao do?". All gourmand-lovers should go for it. Don't walk, run to taste-test this one!

Out of curiosity, I tested this alongside Gourmand Coquin, which has some similarities in the opening with the prominent chocolate and rum notes. After the similar opening, CP goes in a different direction. Whereas GC retains its rum-chocolatey sweetness and rests firmly in classic gourmand territory, CP quickly (within just a few moments) evolves into a powdery, chocolate-patchouli and loses much of its opening sweetness. The cacao note reinforces and brings out the chocolate-y facet of the patchouli and these two notes play off each other throughout the life of this fragrance. I only detect jasmine, sandalwood, and tonka as supporting players lending a mild sweetness and balsamic depth. Sillage is low to moderate, but longevity is good (6-8 hours). It could be considered an inoffensive, low-cal dark chocolate scent with a complexity, and slight powdery-softness that I quite enjoy. Underrated gem, you gotta spray on skin and let it settle for the masterpiece to come alive! I hate patchouli to death! But here the context makes all the difference, hear me out: Every other note here shares a facet with patchouli and with each other: immortelle and davana are dusty/herby, tobacco is floral/dry, cacao is bitter/dry and tonka is sweet/powdery. So when structured together, they create a patchouli mirage! I'm almost convinced there's no actual patchouli oil in here, which is why I love this in spite of my eternal aversion to patchouli. Also, others alluded to its versatility, so I wanted to add that it's everything and nothing at the same time: You can wear this casually, on a date, or even to a formal event, and it will always mesmerize: mysterious, molding to the setting, intriguing while smelling like nothing else... So, please just do yourself a favor and give it some time to develop on your skin, not on paper stuck to your nose, not on your clothes, and be ready for your socks to get knocked off! <3

I just love this! The smell of a dusty cocoa sprinkled into rum, surrounded by fresh jasmine in the background. The patchouli is light and spicy, and the tonka is warm and bright. This actually is a very fresh scent, fresh in that it is light, airy and gorgeous and not too sweet. It reminds me very slightly as a lighter and subdued version of Ambre Eccentrico on the gourmand side, plus some light floral notes dusted with the cacoa. Very hard to describe, but the quality cacao, if one can visualize, dusted onto a white porcelain plate that is clean and bare sums this one up. Unusual and sensual. Any season (but more cool weather appropriate), any time of day, more mature attitudes and any occasion. Note 3/4/23: more than one compliment today saying this is beautiful. The comment was- it is so beautiful and soft too. I forgot I was wearing it - it is quite soft and slightly powdery, but it has good sillage. Something in this adds a slight fruitiness and I am not sure if is one of the flowers or not.

TLDR: I love it. First spray impressions - Dry, Dusky, Powdery, Cacao, Vanilla, Dark Chocolate, Porcelain Clay 6 hour dry down - Dry, Vanilla, Porcelain Clay, Dark Chocolate It's really beautiful and I think the name fits perfectly for the way it smells. It has this amazing grinded clay character, that really comes alive in the winter/cooler days. It also has a snuggly profile where it's easy to smell on someone without it being overpowering. I love the way it smells personally, and I think its hard to hate on this one. Not exactly a blind buy, since this smells like nothing else on the market. I have yet to find a fragrance that fits its name as well as cacao porcelana. Definitely a must try, but not a blind buy. :)

Thank you for including this info Myrtillajus! Pieces of information like this can really enhance the experience of a perfume. For me, this is very dry, but delicious cacao. A dry, powdery, slightly boozy gourmand. The rum, cacao and immortelle works beautifully together. Not for everyone. An acquired taste. Notice, unlike many gourmands – it's not sweet at all. It's very dry, which I can imagine is not to everyone's taste. I remember I wasn't crazy about this the first time, but like many of Atelier Materi's perfumes... in a quiet way, they really grow on you. Subtle and unique earthy-boozy cacao-gourmand beauty. Silently addictive.

Upon spraying, the first two minutes is just milk chocolate, which I was disappointed by. To my surprise, it quickly became 85% dark, cold chocolate, with almost no sugar. It’s a darker, more bitter chocolate. After about an hour of wear, the stark green bitterness at the forefront, dissipates a lot and there is more of a sweet, spicy cacao until the end, as the rum and florals, brag a bit. These other notes sweeten the cacao a tad, but it does remain dark. It is not a cloying gourmand. Its more like cracking open a bar of Mast Brothers and getting a first whiff. The fragrance is a well blended masterpiece. Enjoy it.

Where to start This scent on a whole other level quality wise I just love it so much that I consider it one of the greater gourmand scents in my collection and that’s no little thing A magnificent creation that is in no way unique as well as mainstream It’s in the middle All you need to know is you hate gourmands this one definitely won’t be for you The only issue is the performance I sprayed the heck out of the bottle and it lasted for almost 5 hours died down in the 6th Fortunately the scent itself is good enough for me to ignore the performance

Definitely a love at first sniff. This is a delicious scent and for me the chocolate note was prominent but not in a sweet sickly way but enticing like good quality raw cacoa and pretty much stayed with me all day and evening. It was quickly followed by a warm spicy/woody note though I didn't get a boozy aspect unless it was a vanilla rum. This is a scent I couldn't stop sniffing and I'd definitely get a FB, but it is rather pricy. I now want to sample their other fragrances.

This is a dry sweet, no cloying at all. You get cacao (not chocolate) and tobacco at first, as it dries down you get a more creamy woody profile. Alone it is nice and unique, but lacks wow factor I would say, which I think makes it optimal for layering. I use this in tandem with Givenchy Gentleman Society Edp Extreme, which helps soften and round it out because as much as I love Gentleman Society, it's a bit much for me on it's own, so layering it with this does wonders

First hit is the chocolate but it's a raw choc not a sickly chocolate bar smell. It fades quickly and then you get the slightly boozy, slightly floral earthy delicious aroma. It is so beautiful but for the price (which is $380 Australian) it is too pricey for the poor sillage and weak performance. If I were to indulge, I would wear it in warmer weather when it may have a chance to bloom but for me now testing it from a sample, it goes no where in the cold.

One of the best cacao scents. It is very warm, rum and tobacco add some darkness to it, but it is definitely not heavy. Sophisticated gourmand that knows how to be sweet, but beautiful. Performance is great on my skin. Would think about buying it, although I have a feeling this would be even better on a man. If you haven't smelled anything similar to this one, you will probably fall in love instantly ;) Reminds me of Nishane Pasion Choco.

This hits with a burst of cacao then goes in to coco-tobacco. The tobacco note is lovely. Slowly the cacao fades and the tobacco note takes the stage - I'm not a huge tobacco fan but I'm loving it. This is one that I just want to keep smelling it as it goes from note to note. Some musky notes join in...musk isn't listed as a note so it may be patchouli but on me its musky. I'm really enjoying this gem

Cacao Porcelana is the name of the white cacao beans variety so no porcelain clay association. It is a perfumey boozy cacao, austere and fine. J.U.S. Coffeeze is similar, but with an added skankier oud and a rougher blend. The retail price is too high for the performance, but the scent itself is addictive and I find myself reaching for it all the time, despite my increasingly big collection.

Rich and earthy cocoa powder with slight animalic undertones. Very radiant with soft musk in the base as well as dark (even burnt) woody notes. Sweetness from tonka beans is not overpowering, it’s hidden behind earthiness and nuttiness. White floral notes are present but playing more of a supporting role here. Reminds me of bit of Coffee White Flowers Bohoboco.

Opening is awesome boozy dark choc/cacao, then the floral mid comes in and i get a much higher quality and less sweet version of good girl legere, just with cacao instead of dulche de leche. I honestly think it's a much better replacement and will try to get my wife to wear this one instead of that one. 7.5/10

I really really like this. At first blast you get the cocoa for sure but it then blends to a sweet floral REALLY quick. I don’t know how but it just works. I’m not a big white floral girl either... but I think this is a great fragrance. Now, 15 min into the wearing I’m getting the booze. Yeah. This is GOOD.

I think you will buy this mainly because of the smell. Performance on this house is on the low. This opens with almost realistic cacao with a bit of boozy undertone. The florals on the mid balances the top and base notes to make it more smooth. Very pleasant gourmand scent

Wow! This perfume is an experience! It’s STUNNING! It wouldn’t want you to know that, though. Money talks and wealth whispers. Cacao Porcelana soundlessly mouths the words. It’s pure class. A dry, sweet, boozy cacao softens into a powdery tonka and lasts for hours.

This is chocolate done right! I'm not a fan of chocolate notes, but the cacao in this is photorealistic and beautiful! This is such a cozy fragrance and is similar to Chris Collins Delice. I will definitely be purchasing a full bottle.

SO interesting and unique! Strong and present cocoa powder, with a boozy and slightly smoky undertone. Perfect for cold weather. Powerful but discrete, suitable for any occasion, and equally endearing on men and women.

Wow. The notes are perfectly balanced. I get a realistic cacao note in the beginning and realistic tobacco as the star in the dry down. I wasn't expecting this to be my perfect tobacco fragrance but it is. Lucky me.

Full bottle worthy. I must get this one. It is chocolate, yes, but where Chocolate Greedy is sugar sweet, this one is smooth and sinuous. It wraps around your limbs like a tentacle. It is breathtaking!

The name perfectly fits this fragrance. If you’ve ever grinded porcelain and worked with clay, this smells like that. It smells like a cacao dusted clay masterpiece.

I love this! It smells like a rich white chocolate, mixed with rum. It's a sort of gourmand, well blended with a hint of liquorice.

Still the best cocoa scent from all the hundred perfumes I ever smelled. I feel that it got better in time.

I'm testing this blind and even though I know nothing about the scent or brand, I did order this based strictly off the chocolate fragrance and this obviously is it. Love the opening, chocolate without adolescence sweetness mixed with some vanilla and musk. Unfortunately, it loses some of this magic as it dries down. There's a nutty element to the cacao as well. Looking at the notes, the rum and tobacco elements are not very present, and I'm glad for this because it's what I'm trying to avoid, the rum adding what I'm interpreting as vanilla. The base notes are present enough with the tonka bean leading. I don't get any jasmine, but I'm sure it's adding to the musky side. I generally like this more as it is and moreso than Akro's Dark (a very dry smoky/ashy cigar chocolate), but can't keep from dreaming of a more musky, wet, and aromatic chocolate fragrance that isn't sweet and leans a bit masculine without residing on tobacco, rum, and other obviously tropes. It's a bit unfair really, and I want to be estatic about this one, but the longevity reduced to a skin scent more rapidly and overall didn't perform as well as hoped. Give it a go if you like the idea of a chocolate sophisticated fragrance, but I'm continuing my quest (suggestions welcome).

Wow! What an opening statement. A fruity cacao accord bursts out of this bottle, it's huge. Powdery but also kinda gooey, reminiscent of some dessert with cacao powder and like raspberry coulie or something? (not that this fruity note is raspberry) it's strangely Muglerish, I get a fig (more like dried) sort of feel but also something more berry tart. It's kinda a big, fruity floral, despite not being very floral on the strip now, it was more so on my skin. Smells like those big brash patchouli, chocolate gourmands that I associate with louder than life women, who are always very well put together but perhaps wear too much make up? (is that sexist? who am I to say what's too much make up huh? I basically look like a thumb in an overcoat!) No but you know what I mean? Maybe she (by that I mean He or They) works on the makeup counter and they can't get enough of spritzing themselves as it delivers their chocolate hit as well as their perfume one. I like it. It's bold, it stands out. I couldn't abide wearing it, I don't think.

A fairly interesting scent tethering to the gourmand family. But Cacao Porcelana is not the typical sweet cocoa mixed with vanilla and maybe some white flowers. Here we have just a hint of sweetness in the opening for maybe five minutes or so. Then it turns into a aromatic, semi bitter, dry and boozy cocoa powder. The heart notes are a mix of florals, but it’s tobacco flower that’s more noticeable than the jasmine. The transition to a green, earthy patchouli, davana and sandalwood forward scent is pretty seamless. Cacao Porcelana is very different from what I’ve expected hearing the title. It’s an unusual mix of dry cocoa pod with ashy tobacco and aromatic herbs. In the dry down, there’s nothing sweet left and the gourmand aspect of the opening is gone. Gender wise, it’s a unisex scent. I like the perfume and I find it quite unique but I prefer a sweet cocoa in my fragrances! Therefore, it’s an easy pass for me...

As someone who prefers dark chocolate over milk or white chocolate, this is delectable; waxy and dusty, dark and bitter. No warmth or smooth/rich aspect to the chocolate but it’s a tease of the senses, borderline edible but you can’t eat it. I don’t smell anything fecal at all. On my skin this started off with ultrarealistic extra dark chocolate, then the jasmine and lilies combo and end with a soft cocoa powder floral mix. For reference, I absolutely cannot stand animalic perfumes, however the animalic note in this is almost leathery. I’m guessing it’s the indolic jasmine that put people off, but it’s not overpowering to the point of smelling like poop lol. Another factor could be my skin chemistry, so I highly recommend testing this before buying fb. Longevity is alright, but silage is too weak for the price. I'm glad that it works with my skin, won't be getting a fb but I'll enjoy my sample while it last.

Hmm I blind bought this and ... what a mistake lol so far it smells like drunk person with stank bitter breath ate a bunch of raisins and chewed tobacco LMAO It’s probably the Davana mixing with earthy patchouly that I’m not a fan of in this concoction. I probably have to let my bottle macerate for a few months and give it another try before I think about decluttering it Thank Goodness I let this one sit out a bit. Now the opening is a bit dirty and earthy, perhaps from the davana mixed with patchouli and then a lightly spicy rum with powdery deep cocoa notes emanates . In the deep Drydown of the base the cacao is still there but tobacco is more present . Overall amazing , perfect for cold weather and longevity is eternal

I bought this as a tester from Sommelier du Parfum and instantly liked it because of the boozy opening which reminded me Kilian Angel's Share (I would even say that they are nearly the same). The notes of vanilla, chocolate, and tonka are very accentuated (in a good way), giving a very warm feeling. It can easily be worn solo, but I liked it even more when layered with Olfactive Studio's Close Up fragrance. Together they create a slightly powdery, fresh, very gourmand scent that you wanna actually eat lol. On the bad side, projection is very weak. Even I can barely smell it, despite spraying it 4 times. I wish it was stronger in this aspect, but it is what it is.

Opening is amazing deep dark chocolate, middle is earthy chocolaty and slightly floral but just about acceptable and beautiful to me as a non floral lover. Dry down is mostly sandalwood with a hint of milk chocolate but mostly just a simple creamy sandal wood. If you are not a patchouli lover (as am I) you don't have to be afraid of this fragrance because you can't really smell any patchouli and there is no BO in it at all Sillage is mild to moderate, I can get a waft of it every now and then other than that it sits pretty close to the skin but granted i did not spray that much

I rarely meet a cacao scent I don't enjoy and Cacao Porcelana is no exception. As I've found with several other scents from this line, the opening is wonderful and sadly not everlasting, but this drydown is not too different (albeit not as magnificent). Immediately I thought I was getting some sort of tobacco and floralcy so it's validating to see those notes ;) Definitely a sweet floral cacao. If you're into something like Akro Dark but find it challenging for daily wear, this may be a good solution. I will say the drydown is not my fave cacao scent, but I am enjoying it.

For real cacao lovers. Sweet, warm, perfect for fall and winter. I can smell cacao, rum with a touch of flowers & tobacco. It is a complex scent, a piece of art. 100% unisex, this fragrance is very original. Do not blind buy, but you need to try! Good sillage and longevity. I don't smell patchouli or vanilla with my nose. 7/10 "In order to capture the most beautiful facets of this white cocoa, the perfumer collaborated with a French Maître Chocolatier to obtain the perfect roasting, thus revealing sensual nutty and milky notes, with Tonka bean undertone."

L’Interdit’s new flanker got me really craving more cacao. I was hoping to find something simple that I could layer with floral scents. This was the best thing I’ve found after sampling a handful of scents. I hadn’t paid attention to FB prices when picking samples though. No matter how good this smells, there’s no way I’d spend that much on it. Too bad though because it definitely is very nice.

A gourmand-boozy amber scent. I really like this easy to wear, inoffensive perfume from Atelier Materi. I blinked and the opening had passed. Dry down is vanilla wafers dipped in dark chocolate while sipping a straight shot of rum. This is the last of my discovery set, and although I am enjoying Cacao Porcelana, it’s not enough to make me push the buy button. Sillage and performance is average.

You can really tell it’s cacao, dry down it’s vanillic or should I say tonka and creamy sandalwood, mellow and elegantly gourmand. Those new, elevated gourmands that don’t feel like a piece of cake are something else. I really feel that everyone would like it. That said I don’t need it 🫧 It has a beautiful oriental touch, just enough to make it a little more interesting

Mmm how strange .. At the opening I have beautiful whiffs that remind me of Café Cacao by En Voyage, without coffee. On my skin it soon pulverizes into a blend of thick, sweet talc on a masculine leathery base with the same sandal that I find in Lancome's Santal Kardamon. Not a novelty to my nose but definitely good, more masculine, nocturnal. Cozy.

Yes, it's a lovely dark choco smell, falls between powdery and gourmand notes but what has really disappointed me is it does not last. I literally sprayed half a decant on myself this morning (that's what i do) at 7am, it is not 11am and i barely smell it.....it's a shame as i wanted a FB but at this price i'm not sure it's worth it....

No bad surprises here, Cacao Porcelana promises us rum and cocoa and that's exactly what we get. Its chocolatey and alcoholic opening lasts throughout its life, but is added a "white flowers" effect which softens everything and brings a more elegant and delicate side. A nice creation, which changes from what I'm used to smell.

Reminds me of Atelie Cologne Cafe Tuberosa. This is a cold cacao, very unique. I think we all might agree that gourmands are usually warm. This one is cold and dry, in a good sense. A must try!

you have to let it develop a bit after spraying but it eventually dries into this dry, rummy dark chocolate thats perfectt for winter... layering this with vanilla would be intriguing

first impressions: cold cacao meets aquatic-floral. well done and interesting but not sure if necessary beyond a sample. overpriced.

Smells of delicious chocolate that quickly morphs into something else and becomes less distinctive, but still nice.

Smells as if soil, sand, cocoa beans and some ash been mixed together for a necro ritual. Very "witchy" perfume!

The initial spray of this is very odd: the mix of cacao and the davana/patchouli smells like dirt. Not like wet, fertile soil, but literally the dry dirt patch next to the parking lot at work. Within ten minutes or so that subsides, thankfully. I don't think I'm a fan of cacao (or chocolate, for that matter) in perfume. There's something somewhat dusty about the cacao notes I have smelled that make it something I tend to avoid. This isn't the exception, but it had enough other things going on to distract you from it. Others might not need to be distracted and would instead lean into that scent profile (I get the sense it's a well-done cacao note), but I'm thankful for the diversion myself. Over time, this mellows into more of a classic, creamy, warmly spiced vanilla/tonka sandalwood scent. You can sense something darker underneath, like the patchouli, tobacco flower, and a bit of the rum. I'd call it something of a mid-toned - as in not super dark and not super light - brown scent: earthy, warm, and just a little molasses sweet. It's quite pleasant to wear once it settles and the cacao fades a bit. Still not a fan of the cacao, but it's not a bad scent overall. 7/10.
