Narcisse Taiji

For me, this is a white-yellow floral, combined with a tiny bit fruity-pear-sweet, ginger-warm, wheat-agrestial and somehow 'wet', or perhaps 'lush' is a better word – ultimately in the category of floral, although far away from your typical floral. I don't really think 'green', but I can understand the reference somehow. I get the image of a city drying up from a heavy summer rain, and it's almost like you can feel it in your body how all of the trees and plants are nurturing from it. It's something melancholy about it, but also you can begin to see the light in between the clouds. Melancholy, but warm, and calming. I think the agrestial and the calming effect comes from the bran. It softens everything in the most beautiful way, and is also what makes it stand out. The sweetness from the pear is also what makes it characteristic. I think this is definitely niche. It's not for everyone, but if the profile is right for you, you will love it. I really wouldn't call this 'spicy' at all, far from it! Although, I understand how sensitive noses interpret it this way. I think it is the ginger that is giving off a sense of warmth. Leans a little bit feminine, but as a man, I just love to wear this for myself. It is very soft, friendly and kind. One of those perfumes that makes your whole day seem just a little more beautiful, and lift your spirits.

When first applied to the skin Narcisse Taiji seems almost animalic, with waves of patchouli and white flowers coming straight at you. But almost immediately it moderates itself into a perfect blend of notes, which feel fresh and very green with hints of spicy and warm ginger and musky sweet pear that never over extend themselves but work cooperatively together to create something beautiful. They’re a perfect framework for the florals, beginning with a lightly indolic and green tuberose that becomes almost soapy, and the narcissus which starts polleny sweet but ultimately ends up as a powdery skin smelling note. And then there’s the bran which adds a medium toned kind of carbohydrate laden doughy earthiness to the blend. It’s beautiful, it’s unisex, and it feels different to so many of the perfumes out there now which are starting to smell so similar to me. Narcisse Taiji released that happy rush of dopamine that happens when a perfume lover smells something not only good but also different. I could never be a true signature scent person, there’s too many I love, but for someone that wants that this would be absolutely perfect. It is suitable to be worn just about anywhere for any occasion and has moderate sillage and longevity.

The narcissus is lovely here. My skin seems to love narcissus; if it's in there anywhere it will steal as much attention as it can (I'm looking at you Fate). This isn't a terrible thing as I love the note; but as such I'm more accustomed to the slightly leather/pollen-y slightly stinky daffodil aspect. In this it's fresh and sweet; which is not what I expected from the brand copy. My only quibble is that it disappears in the dry down; perhaps it's still there but just buried in the sweet patchouli. I'm not a fan of de Marly in general so I can't speak to Safanad; but as much as I adore Bubbles' excellent taste and reading their reviews (and I do look them up all the time!!!) we have a little different noses; and for me the pear is definitely there, but not really a prominent element. However the sweet ginger patchouli base is agreeably very strong. There's something about it that reminds me of the dry down of my other Atelier Materi favorite, Peau D'Ambrette. I'm assuming it's the ginger as it's the only thing they share; but it definitely shares a "feeling" in the dry down. The sugary patchouli aspect is a bit ubiquitous (coromandel, muse, tyger by her side etc etc) but addictive enough for me still to grab it.

WOW! I found this fragrance because I thought it would be fun to find a fragrance with a note of hay for fall and landed on this one as the best option based on overall notes and previous reviews. I never expected to love this parfum as I do! I have worn this nearly every day since getting it and I already know I will always have a bottle in my collection. Even my boyfriend smelled it and immediately said "yep, this is like your best one" 😂 On to the actual reviewing lol.. When first spraying you definitely get the ginger front and center, but I can also appreciate the sweetness of the tuberose pulling it back from being too offensive. There is something soothing about Narcisse that a few other reviewers mentioned as well. This scent takes me to an artsy little boutique along the coast of California. Masterfully blended and I would say underrated offering from Atelier! A whiff of this is airy, yet a deep inhale is so lush! I just can't get enough. 😊 I can still smell this on clothing a couple days after spraying on them! On me, the scent fades away right around 8-9 hours, so there is some decent longevity here, but sillage is definitely intimate at this point.

This is absolutely captivating! I adore white floral notes in general so was excited to experience the interplay of tuberose and narcissus with the earthy notes of hay and bran plus that delightful twist of ginger. I blind ordered a travel size and it did NOT disappoint: the notes combine to create a gorgeous and quirky / playful yet mature fragrance, which lingered a surprisingly long time on me. It's unlike any other white floral in my collection and while I'd love to splurge on a full size bottle, there are a couple things holding me back: one, it's very expensive, a point I could better justify IF all these lovely notes projected a bit more. When I wear this I'm simultaneously exhilarated by the mesmerizing -- on the verge of masculine leaning -- earthy white floral, gingery scent bubble, yet frustrated I can't turn the dial up to 10 so I can share this with the world! I love Narcisse Taiji and will relish my time with the travel spray. When it runs out I will either have to pick up another travel or splurge on the bottle (and isn't that more cost effective in the end anyways? :-) )

I find this to be a highly underrated offering from Atelier Materi. See orpheusdream's review- They cover the actual scent quite well. The boutique where I purchased it was sold out of the more popular fragrances from the same house which is the only reason I even picked this one up off the shelf. It was enchantment at first sniff. Supremely blended, no one note takes center stage. Instead, it's harmoniously relaxed, and gives an overall impression of yellow floral/green freshness. Some days it makes me think of a fresh spa, others a crisp morning on a meadow or fresh laundry. It’s “high pitched” and airy with a breathiness to it. As someone who usually goes for something a little deeper with more woods, I’m shocked that this has become my favorite fragrances (of all time). It delights me every time I smell it. I think it’s entirely unisex.

This is gorgeous and well balanced. I am not sure if this is feminine enough for me being a true feminine fragrance lover, although the dry down is soooo beautiful on me. I am on the fence about purchasing a full bottle. I would adore this on a man as well. Classy, fresh and complex. I love the pear, narcissuso and ginger combination. Update: I purchased the full bottle. The powdery, spicy, fresh and slightly fruity presence is for the individual who cannot be compared to another.

I have come to love a powdery green - it is a classic scent profile but it’s so elegant. The pear is too loud initially but luckily fades into a powdery floral. I don’t smell the tuberose (wish I did) but there is a floral sweetness that is more like honeysuckle. If you like a soft green, unlike Chanel 19 or Bandit, along the lines of Hiram Green’s Arbole then this might be something to try.

By far my favorite from this house. It's gorgeous, elegant narcissus and it's true, resembles Unexpected Mona in a way, which makes me wonder how come no pineapple on the pyramid? Now, I love Unexpected Mona but this, my friends, is even better. I wish they had smaller bottles at a better price, I'd love to have it in my collection.

I’m a huge fan of this scent. This floral, green fragrance has been a favorite of mine this summer. I only have a sample of this that is quickly running out and will have to get my hands on a bottle soon. The narcissus and tuberose are the notes that stand out the strongest in my opinion.

I did the discovery set. This was my favorite. Pretty, a nice floral. Lasts and projects nicely. Mostly floral with the other notes well blended. Lightly ambery. This will be a full bottle for me.

This is a perfect blend of fresh floral and deeper notes, which doesn’t end up feeling too heavy. My idealized version of pachouli.

It's like a mix between Valiant by Boadicea the Victorious and Platinum Egoiste by Chanel. Really pleasant

On card this smells identical to Solo Vulcan by Loewe. I've yet to see if this holds on the skin too.

Almost gourmandish. Like a loaf of bread soaked in the smell of narcissus

Okay, new brand for me and one I've been chasing down the discovery set of for sometime but they've been sold out for the last 18 months or so. Anyway, finally got my hands on them and of the six offerings this was the first impression and I'm glad to say it left a really good one. I think it opens quite green, you definitely get the salty, waxy, wierdness of tuberose, this is undoubtedly a floral perfume but wasn't screaming narcisus on my first application on skin. However, as I sit here with it on the strip it smells SOOO much more like tuberose and narcissus, in a very fresh almost light, eculyptus/camphor way. The overarching element is of mown hay, and it's perfect for those who don't like florals to be too floral and heady, it grounds them, much it the way that Pisara of Dusita perfumes uses it. It's not that hay note you get with coumarin or tonka accords it's much more summery and the fact that bran is listed in the notes here is no surprise, I'm sure bran absolute is adding much of this hay flavour. It's clever, well crafted, feminine leaning for my sensibilities but a firm like and a really good opener, I'd happily wear it because it was even nicer on my skin last night when I tried it out but I ain't gonna be buying it, doesn't speak to me in that way.

Narcisse Taiji is one of those perfumes that totally surprises you 🌱✨ As someone who grew narcissus bulbs every winter for years, I’m super familiar with the scent of their flowers. With the name Narcisse Taiji, I was expecting narcissus to take center stage. Instead, this fragrance has a complex, green floral character where narcissus supports a leading cast of hay, tuberose, and ginger. Usually, tuberose is a wild stallion, bold and impossible to tame 🐎 But here, she's been gracefully reined in, still indolic and sweet but without the usual intensity. The hay note grounds the fragrance with a dry, green undercurrent, while ginger adds a warm, spicy nuance. Tuberose takes the lead in a floral dance, with narcissus following close behind. Together, they create a story that feels delicate and intentional. This wasn’t love at first sniff, but it’s really grown on me, and I appreciate the artistry. Narcisse Taiji is exactly why I try niche perfumes. It's beautiful, unique, and singular 💚

A few months ago I let go of a 95% full bottle of Safanad by Parfums de Marly. When I sprayed Narcisse Taiji, it’s the first thing I thought of, this is my old bottle of Safanad, reinterpreted. They are a little different—of course—but the similarities are profound: a fizzy soda opening, a sweet floral with a dominant pear. The flowers are different but it’s the exact same pear note. On my skin there’s more development than Safanad, with notes receding and allowing a more interesting transition to a ginger-floral-musk scent. Definitely Narcisse Taiji is a more complex commitment. And I know there is a good amount of synthetics in here because I changed clothes, slept for 7.5 hours, woke up and can still smell it. So incredible performance, and for that fact alone this is better buy than Safanad even though the retail cost is roughly the same. But just like Safanad, this is a like and not a love, and these days I only want to hang onto things I love.

Narcissus is an interesting note, one that can often be quite polarising for many people. Narcisse Taiji manages to capture the pure white sensuality of this flower, akin to jasmine, whilst also balancing it very nicely with an array of other complimentary notes. Most notably, I get a lot of juicy pear in the opening alongside the heady sweetness of tuberose. This sweetness is balanced very well with the dry earthiness of hay before settling into a base of patchouli. The scent itself isn’t massively complex but has two polarising personalities combined into one, created very smoothly. I would be surprised if real Narcissus absolute was used in here due to the obscene cost of the material, I imagine it’s a synthetic accord but still smells really nice. It feels more soapy and clean compared to real Narcissus, but that’s just my initial thoughts. Overall it’s a pleasant scent but not a love for me.

When I first sprayed this on paper, I thought 'wow, this is a pure yellow floral!' On my skin, it definitely still retains the yellow floral quality, but there is a sunscreeny and vegetal profile much more present than on paper. The patchouli, ginger, leather, and hay all give it a little warm but herbal spice in the same vein as ginger itself, but more nuanced and with none of those notes in particular overpowering the others. I think I smell the bran, and it feels like a sensible, solid base for everything else to sit on. It's floral, but not too heady. A little bit of green freshness, but not too much. It's a little retro and I like that quality in this. It's not exactly my style, but it's still very nice. If you like yellow florals and and want some dimension to your fragrance, definitely give this one a try. 7/10.

Lifelike daffodils - but is it really narcissus, or a clever interplay of tuberose with the other accords? Same with the base notes: cistus isn't listed, but it smells just like crushing an oily rock rose leaf in your hand on a warm day. This narcissus/rock rose combination dominates at arm's length, but close to the skin I get a gingery, slightly resinous tuberose. Unfortunately, this vibrant complexity fades after two hours into a somewhat dull patchouli drydown. I also wished for more of the sweet notes - I got the faintest whiff of pear just out of the sample vial, and couldn't identify bran at all. This is a classic floral-earthy Mediterranean scent which smells good on anyone, but you might find more interesting and long-lasting options at a similar price.

Sorry for the comparison with BeauFort London, but I tested Narcisse Taiji exclusively for this. These are two independent fragrances. Narcisse Taiji slightly reminds me of Fathom V in drydown, but here everything is calmer and more decent and more linear. At the start, it's a completely different story - more about the flower heads themselves, and not about crazy uprooted and chopped flowerbeds. And there is no aquatic storm in NT. It's a very good thing in general, but I prefer more violent Fathom V. Well, they are different, yes. Fathom is a very bold statement and an artwork, Narcisse Taiji is a very nice, quite natural and safe narcissus perfume. I like it.

Rolling in hay. It's a summer's day, there is a meadow, some of the grass has been cut, there is a bar of soap somewhere, the warm air carries these aromas to your nose. Seriously hay and soap on me. Very beautiful and evocative. I don't get narcisse at all on me. Only hay and something clean. I also want to categorize this as masculine fragrance because the hay note reminds me of how men's colognes smelled when I was a kid and this note was more popular apparently. But all in all very much a nature scent. Not very complex or deep. The pricetag... ouch.

Initially, I mostly notice fresh ginger and green tuberose. Then comes a narcissus that is rounded with hay, moss and a transparent patchouli. The pear does not remind me of the fruit but the consistency of the shampoos and the note of narcissus always remains straight, calm, feminine, clean. The overall smell is simple, natural, already smelled but with a sparkling-sour touch and at the same time delicate, loose, clear. More summery, by day. With good silage on its side. Mo0ore femme with a soapy and unisex tail in the finish.

Not sure about this one. It’s definitely unique, haven’t smelled anything like it. I find it hard to describe, probably because of the unusual notes. I guess it mostly smells like a yellow floral - I don’t get the white creaminess of real narcissus flowers. The hay, bran and ginger give it an almost food-like quality; it also has this kind of dry straw-ness to it. It smells like an autumnal hay dance, without any animalic “barn” smell. Not my cup of tea but clearly good quality and I commend them for trying something different.

This one is disappointing because the narcissus note as well as that hint of tuberose in this is gorgeous, but the ginger and possibly the pear, ruin it for me. A lot of newer formulations like to add peppery top notes and I often find that, for me, they ruin the harmony of a fragrance. Not always, but often. That being said, if you love the idea of narcissus and ginger together, you'll love this. I have an 8ml decant from sniph and anticipate using it a bit during the summer, but nothing I'd buy again.

It does really smell like narcissus with the green, powdery, tart and a bit honey-like nuances. It’s a very beautiful complex scent with slight cold metallic vibe on the surface but also tender flowers inside. It also has a strong spicy tuberose note that puts me off a bit, but in general it’s a really interesting fragrance.

A narcissus fragrance... Original, it is a green floral scent. I can smell narcissus with a touch of hay. Vintage vibe to my opinion. My feeling: you are in nature with freshly picked flowers. A traditional picnic in the French Aubrac mountains during a beautiful day in spring.

My first foray into narcissus. Such a sexy green floral fragrance! Normally leather tends to dominate on my skin, but the hay balances it. Loving this house overall for their interesting compositions.

Beautiful narcissus note that blends in an ingenuous way with hay and ginger. It's later joined by a fresh musk base with a hint of patchouli that gives it a green edge. Lovely but short lived.

Smells like if Twilly was raised in a forest by a witch. Gingery tuberose, but camphoraceous, herbal, and earthy.

It's a pleasant scent. Warm floral with a hint of spice. Unfortunately not FB worthy for me. :)

Opens with pear and ginger on an earthy, green and mossy base. I'm very impressed. -

Ginger and tuberose give this perfume the same vibe as Twilly d'Hermes

Burst of green florals with a strong dose of some synthetic aromachemical (ambroxan, etc) that has been added to extend longevity. This textural "flare" really ruins the composition, as it quickly flattens once the nose becomes blind to the aromachemicals. This explains why some get great longevity, and some like me who are prone to nose-blindness, get 1-2 hrs.

Narcisse Taiji by Atelier Materi is dangerous. Its green, spicy narcissus feels rebellious and sexy. The sharp kick of ginger paired with earthy patchouli creates an intoxicating blend.

Fascinating! This may be my first foray into a narcissus scent, but the initial floral blast felt familiar. But what was cool was how quickly that flash vanished. What stayed wasn't green for me, but it felt like a gentle bouncy and kinda sharp scent. However! As I'm writing it, the florals are starting to be a bit too sharp for me. Sharp and chemical. Idk my skin chemistry consistently sharpens/raises the acidity on most scents, so I wasn't too surprised. But it smells a bit unpleasant and overbearing for me. Less like a heavy thick white floral cloud surrounding you, but it feels like someone holding a knife dipped in flower oil to your throat. It doesn't come up loudly but everytime you take a breath there it is. Not my thing! But I'm actually very glad I got to sample it. I was about to blind buy another yellow floral narcissus hay scent. This gave me a lot of clarity. Idkkk maybe something about this just doesn't work for my nose.

Unfortunately, it is very disappointing to me. It doesn't smell floral to my nose, neither green or herbal, but just generically like sharp, powdery, detergent-like musk. This is definitely more laundry detergent smelling rather than nice soap. I find it very synthetic, in a very unpleasant way, and headache inducing. I do not think I will finish my little sample.

Although nowadays there are a lot of brands with modern familiar approaches and repetitive continuity with no creativity, I’ve just sampled such a distinct fragrance. Narcisse Taiji has an obvious flashback to classic fragrances. A retro style, something beyond modern appearance. It displays a great show with a biting, tangy and fizzy ginger that adds a stunning start in combination with a somewhat fruity accent of pear. Then in the middle a huge dosage of impressive narcissus with just the right amount of Hay and Bern make a dreamy heart. It’s floral, green, herbal, dry and a little earthy. As a bed for this rich structure the fragrance is enhanced with leather, patchouli, and musk. However, it's not heavy at all. Narcisse Taiji feels vintage and classic in all the right ways. It’s a total love for me. If only it had a better performance.

I find Narcisse Taiji both modern and traditional, there is something very nostalgic about this perfume. My mind goes to the rural midwest in the depths of July in the 1990's, a small, clean cottage surrounded by wheat stalks gently swaying under the sun. The gorgeous woman of the house is in a Laura Ashley dress making oatmeal in her peach colored kitchen. There is an "old-school" sort of floral note, which I am guessing is the narcissus, and although its been stripped of anything skanky, aldehydic or indolic that would normally accompany a vintage floral, it still harkens to perfumes of the past. It smells so natural. The hay and bran overpower everything else on my skin giving this a cozy, homey character, especially upon initial spray. I've tried this one many times because it's such an odd little perfume.

Rather vintage smelling floral fragrance. Along the line of White Diamond by Elizabeth Taylor and those early 90s florals but done in a much airier way. The saltiness that usually comes with the 90s floral is also quite present here. There's a slight dougy smell in the background that is resemble Mirroir de Envies by Mugler. The more the scent dries down the clearer the similarity to Mirroir de Envies becomes. I do not think I smell Narcissus or Tuberose standing out, instead all of the notes mix together. Nothing truly exciting or new.

This one is pretty nice. I get a sunscreenish sweet tuberose but it's made spicy with hot, raw ginger to brighten it up. It's a great combination, that hot spice over the smooth, gentle petals of tuberose. Sadly, though, it faded very fast to a faint skin scent and barely lasted. It's quite linear on me and pretty much was down to the press-nose-to-skin level in half an hour.

Green?? Where?? Fresh spicy?? Where?? This is a vintage style floral fragrance done in a very modern way. Tuberose and narcissus growing under neon light. Opulent, powdery and slightly chemical. Are they plastic flowers maybe? Projects like crazy. Lasts forever. Very artistic and not for the faint of heart. Try before you buy.

A waxy, spicy and honestly irresistable floral scent. Hard to pinpoint notes for me, but the name gives away narcissus. Other than that, I feel creamy ylang, powdery 'pink' hued musk, nutmeg, hint of clove and another spicey facet I can't identify. Beautiful stuff, leaning feminine.

I agree that this is not quite green as in herbal. I get the image of narcissus though. It's more like a refreshing summer drink with tangerine peels in it.

From start to finish this just smelled like laundry detergent on me. Not unpleasant but not what I’m looking for on my skin.

I feel like something is missing from this fragrance that would make it either fresher or more comforting.

Unique and a powerhouse to my nose. It is just too heavy and floral for me.
