Mint & Tonic

The luxurious Atkinsons perfume brand is well known. James Atkinson opened his soap and perfume shop in 1799 in London. He became the personal perfumer of the royal family in 1826. Mint & Tonic is a luxurious, sophisticated, soft, cool, aristocratic, very high-quality, and very pure fragrance. The fragrance captivates the senses, making it ideal for daily morning use in the summer. One of the luxurious niche perfumes and the undisputed king of summer. The fragrance opens with a very soft opening, a mixture of soft and cool mint mixed with lime and a touch of grapefruit. The pure aromatic scents of light ginger and royal geranium gradually settle on a woody, musky base. The dominant scent of the fragrance is lime and mint, exactly as if you are drinking a cold mojito made from the finest ingredients on the beach on a hot summer morning. The packaging is dominated by a royal character, one of the best I have seen in the world of niche perfumes. The perfume bottle is very luxurious, with a luxurious metal cap that indicates the antiquity of the luxurious Atkinsons perfume house. Performance is not the best, in fact below average, lasting for several hours but close to the skin. The fragrance retails for $190 for a 100 ml bottle on the official Atkinsons luxury fragrance website. Conclusion: * If you are looking for performance, this fragrance is not for you. * If you are looking for purity and quality, this fragrance is for you.

Mint & Tonic is a very fresh, mint and lime summer scent, I'd predominantly use for summer day wear, but could stretch to evenings and warmer spring days. The performance is not too bad considering the notes used in the scent, but do not expect beast mode 12+ hours etc. If you enjoy mint in fragrances and are partial to smelling a little like a mojito mixed with a gin & tonic, this is definitely for you. I love it ❤

This opening is 🔥 but don't get your hopes up, because the fun ends soon. After that it settles into a weaker vetiver and musk. In the same realm as Floris Limes which is awesome, but has major performance problems. It smells amazing, carrying a decant is a must. Scent 7.9/10 Performance 2/10

For some time now I've been trying to find a sample of GNTONIC by M. Micallef, a scent that on paper should be good for summer and fulfil my desire for fragrances that offer a gin and tonic vibe. Unfortunately, I've not been able to find a sample, so I thought it worth trying Mint & Tonic instead, as I've heard that they are similar. I am, however, a little dubious about that, because GNTONIC explicitly aims for a gin-and-tonic vibe, whereas Mint & Tonic doesn’t seem to make such claims. Mint is one of those notes I’m often wary of because of the “toothpaste” risk. Thankfully, there are no such concerns with Mint & Tonic. Here, the opening is a calming, fresh, natural-smelling garden mint supported by hints of lime. I do find some similarity with Guerlain' Homme Eau de Parfum but Mint & Tonic is smoother and less sharp in the opening. With the Guerlain, it is the lime that sits at the forefront, with the mint playing more of a supporting role. As Mint & Tonic begins to open up, I get touches of spicy ginger, grapefruit, and orange, but none of the listed geranium. Further along, the vetiver and cedar notes become more apparent, especially after a couple of hours, although the soft mint remains present throughout. On the day I tested my sample, it wasn’t especially warm, so it’s difficult to say with certainty how well this would perform in high heat, but I suspect it would work very well. Unfortunately, on my skin I only got around four to five hours from it. Last year, Guerlain Homme EdP was one of my standard go-to fragrances on summer days, and I continue to rate it highly, so it is considerable praise when I say that I like Mint & Tonic just as much. The Guerlain is perhaps less subtle in its beauty, but I do find it lasts longer. I think that when I eventually finish the Guerlain, I could be tempted to purchase a full bottle of Mint & Tonic, although in my mind the two are too interchangeable to justify owning both at the same time. Tested: 1 ml decant Seasons / occasions: Hot summer days. Key thoughts: Lovely calming, nature mint opening that persists. Overall rating: 8/10 Buy full bottle: Possibly, once I finish my bottle of Guerlain Homme EdP, that in my mind plays a similar role.

Tried this today after being accosted by a sales assistant who picked the wrong guy to talk fragrances with! I tested her kung fu and it was pretty poor, she was very nice though and didn't pretend to be knowledgeable after she realised she was dealing with a fragrant OG!!! ;) I found it slightly underwhelming in truth. I'm a big fan of this brand for some reason I say that because not one fragrance wows me but there's some good solid stuff in there. Burlington Arcade was the highlight of recent releases from this house, Mint & tonic does open with a refreshing lime citrus, settling to a cleaner, aquatic type fragrance with a sharp hint of ginger. I was expecting something of the G&T or mojito from the name but instead a modern, clean affair which only has a hint of mint and no juniper which the tonic suggests. It's a clean, cool citrus musk of good quality, with some vetiver and cedar in the base but that's about it! Performance was average to poor on me. Update 11/11/2025 Isn't it funny that I posted the first review on this some years ago and I'm returning to it with very little further insight hahah, I have to say, although I've essentially just read out the notes in my review above it does still stand that the opening is a sharp citrus of lime and grapefruit and that blast of ginger but the real interest here is the mint note because although present and judging by the name a big component in the perfume, it's not excessively minty to me. It's a smooth, rounded smelling mint perfectly in tune with the dry vetiver/cedar base notes and the diffusive musky nature overall. The vetiver note goes hard for about ten minutes after it's settled then dies back giving a sort of earthy melancholy to what is quite an upbeat fragrance. It is a bit weak, meek and mild but I think it's a harmless, splash/cologne type fragrance which actually smells pretty nice and if you don't think it should command a silly niche pricetag, then I can sympathise with those thoughts.
