Hawaiian White Ginger

I'm unabashedly in love with this fragrance! I never wore this Avon fragrance (or many others) in the 70s, but, intrigued by the reviews here and looking for some new scents, I ordered some off eBay. I tore into the packaging, eager to see what so many people here were raving about. At first spray, I thought it was too sweet, which disappointed me because I'm trying to get away from sweet. But... Give it a few minutes, and it dries down to something really lovely. Sorta sweet, but not overly. Very fresh-smelling. I sense the jasmine and grasses, but not so much the ginger. Long-lasting, but I don't mind an extra spritz a few hours later! I love how my clothing smells after I use it, and I sometimes spray it on my pillows. I've just ordered a large bottle of the after-bath splash and am looking forward to it. I also have the bath soap, still wrapped, and I use it as a decorative accent in the bathroom. Great graphics! Leave it to Avon, to discontinue what apparently was one of its most-beloved fragrances....

I wish Avon would reissue this! I’m just afraid it will disappoint me. A lot of reviewers mention “ginger” as in ginger ale, but they seem to be basing it on an old bottle of the fragrance. “White ginger” is Hawaiian and known as “awapuhi ke’oke’o.” Nothing like the ginger you would expect in your grocery store. It is a sweet, slightly spicy scent, which smells tropical. This, mixed with the florals and the slight herbaceous quality just speaks summer. Tiare Lei by Terra Nova is a similar smell, so I will wear that when I want to reminisce. It’s just slightly heavier, and just misses the mark.

One of Avon's rare vintage green perfumes, this one is fresh-spicy ambery/musky with citrus, bamboo grasses, lily & jasmine, and of course the ginger. This was quite popular when I was a little girl where I lived at the time; I always coveted the pretty bottle shown here that some of my babysitters and older neighborhood girls had. Now I finally have my own. One of the longer-lasting Avons of the era, gets compliments especially from people who remember the scent on someone they love.

When I was a child (about 7) one of my sisters sold Avon. I had the solid stick version of this scent, and shared a scented cream version with both my sisters. I remember it as a very fresh, "gingery", soapy fragrance, with good sillage and longevity. In the late 1990's Avon re-released the cream, and it smelled exactly as I remembered from childhood! What a lovely perfume. It could be used by men as well, due to the spicy and clean undertones.

oh how I loved this as a teenager.. fresh & crisp not really green. the citrus sparkled without being too heavy or sour.. Like ginger ale with light florals.. I still have a bottle that I rarely wear (want to save it) but occasionally sniff at because it was just so good!

Oh this brings back memories! My grandmother sold Avon for 29 years. Most of the Avon fragrances I did not like back then. But this one, this one was a treat! I remember this vintage bottle - so psychedelic 70s cool. I wish I could get my hands on a vintage bottle again.

I would love to get a hold of this scent! I do remember it well as my aunt sold Avon at that time. Funny how I can remember that smell. So distinct and beautiful!

My first "favorite" fragrance, my Grandma wore this. The new formulation doesn't seem as 'gingery' as the old, but sentimental love from me nonetheless.

Ah, another one I didn't get to try as a little girl. This one has quite a lot of fans, let's find out why! First drops with a pipette to wrists, neck and pits, here we go! Not quite what I was expecting...I thought there would be a bit more of a PUNCH with the ginger. I assumed this would be, y'know, white ginger blossom, but it's not. It's a gentle ginger root, like a ginger ale. It's quite pleasant though. Think a gentle jasmine with an effervescent solar ginger for the first hour. Hours 2-4: she dries down into a pleasant...bamboo?...scent, a little bit of the citrussy drying green grasses like the Field Flowers I tried just the day before. I can see why people liked this one. It reminds me a lot of one of the Avon Haiku scents. (I'm not sure which one off the top of my head though). Hours 5-6: And, she's pretty much gone. The tiniest bit of the powdery white floral classic "Avonade" is left behind. I had to do some running around town so I decide I'm going to kick this up to 10; I applied some Hawaiian Tropic oil to my skin, put fresh drops of Hawaiian White ginger to my pulse points, liberally spritz some B&BW's Waikiki Beach Coconut, add in some Royal Hawaiian Plumeria body mist, and just to top it off, a few squirts of Sand & Sable. It's 105°F out (40.5° C) I smell like I just got done drinking a Coco Colada on the beach and it was GLORIOUS. I do my running around with the biggest smile on. I drop off lunch for my hubby's office and he let me know how good I smelled. It sounds a bit bonkers, but in 3 hours it was all already gone. I decide to skip an evening drip, this scent belongs to daylight. So overall Hawaiian White Ginger on its own is light and inoffensive, and it layers well if you're looking to punch it up with more tropical scents. It's a shame that they discontinued this one too, but like I said one of the Haiku scents smells VERY similar to this , I believe it was "Awakenings" but the original Haiku would work too. Original Haiku has a Yuzu note, not ginger but it comes across very similar though, and it's plentiful and easy to find. If you find Hawaiian White Ginger out in the wild for $5-10 snag it, but if not Haiku is around for about $15 too. Hey, I might even try them together before this little bottle is gone. 🍹🥰👍🌴🏺

I recently had the great fortune to discover this perfume at a local thrift for only $2, and in one of the Frisky Friends bottles, too! I smiled when I first smelled it; it's like summertime in a bottle. Fresh, green, deliciously floral without veering into soap or stuffiness, with a very slight kick of ginger - think of ginger candy more than ginger root. The longevity is just "eh", and the projection is moderate enough that I feel comfortable layering it on to my heart's content. It definitely has that 'vintage smell' that I can't define quite yet; it's not spoiled, sharp, or stale, but it carries that feeling of an older, more traditional style of fragrance formulation. It rides the middle line perfectly between luxury, high quality perfume and cheaper, more B&BW style fragrance mists. Hawaiian White Ginger feels light, breezy, and sunny to wear, the perfect scent for warm weather that won't overwhelm or turn cloying or sticky.

I acquired a vintage bottle of this scent in tandem with a vintage Avon Honeysuckle scent I was looking for. This one is very light, airy, and effervescent. The mist is a continuous spray, rather than a single spritz at a time. The ginger is the most noticeable and recognizable note, with a bubbly, nose-tickling quality that might remind you of ginger ale or ginger beer. It's not a sweet fragrance, so I would personally assign it to Ginger Beer. I can also detect a very slight bit of grassiness and citrus, but it seems to blend into the overall ginger beer quality. Fresh, clean, and summery.

i got a slightly full vintage bottle in a perfume lot. not sure what year but looks 70s/80s if i had to guess. i get a slightly indolic jasmine with ginger and citruses at first. it's light, pretty and green, nice for a warm day. i am pretty sure i've smelled this before, or something like it. it makes me think of hawaii. and i'm glad i have this little partial bottle to use for awhile.

Still, my number one favorite Avon (Next to their impression of Honeysuckle) . I worked at an estate sale over the weekend and the lady of the house was an Avon junkie in the 1970s. Lo, I see a small boxed kitten shaped bottle that was UNUSED since 1973 or so (if the cologne was inside of a REAL kitten it would not have made it to 2024). . Lots of time to macerate !! Hawaiian White Ginger smells a tad like vintage Emeraude with a white citrus twist in a big punchbowl , and some alcohol tossed in . I wish these old Avons were ALL sprays , not splashes . Whatever. I dabbed my wrists and on my shirt collar . I sat outside and the lovely breeze gave whiffs to me in the sun . Pretty potent for a "cologne cheapie". I can still smell it on my collar the next day! The cologne did not sell so I got to go home with some nice consolation prizes !

When I was a very young teenager in the 60's, a friend's older sister was a grade school teacher and she also sold Avon. She would let me help her grade papers (well, it was pretty easy because they were only first or second graders). She kindly let me try out many of her Avon scents and gave me my favorite, a little cream in a tin of Avon's Hawaiian White Ginger, which I loved. It was a sweet and happy fragrance with a little bit of floral mystery for me at the time. I was a slightly fantastical kid because I certainly imagined myself transported to an island in the Pacific, where I would meet a tall, dark and handsome stranger! (Since I was only 13 at the time, this was a bit of a stretch!!) I would love to come across this scent, probably long gone, again; maybe in a second hand store? Such nostalgia.

I remember this also and am having the urge to order a vintage bottle from Ebay. I recall it being a spectacular summer scent; what I call a "transcendent scent" as it takes me to a different place in time and psychologically. Back into the luscious retro smell-good world I go after all these years and am enjoying myself immensly! I have wish list. This is one on the list I can decently afford. What Avon massively blundered, they also managed to richly and masterfully correct in many of their fragrances.

Oh I remember this one too! It was a summer favorite, fresh, floral and luscious. Had to order it on ebay, will let you know if my memory serves me well.
