Mesmerize Black for Her

This is heavier than I normally prefer my perfumes to be, yet I couldn't stop sniffing it on a sample. Oriental, dark, sweet and to me definitely an evening type of fragrance. Not many Avon perfumes leave such distinct memorable feeling as this one, so even though it is not my typical frag, I HAD to have it. Staying power is good and it keeps its distinct notes as it dries down- it doesnt change much over time. I think it is good for women over 30 or even over 40-50, it has this "mature" (but not as in granny smell) vibe. Like it a lot!

I absolutely love this perfume. I can't even tell exactly why, I can't say it's special in any way, but it's blended so nicely. Not heavy but winter-y, fruity and flowery, but not to plain. A bit sweet too, so it doesn't smell harsh. On me it lasts all day, on clothes it lasts even more. And it's dirt cheap! Too bad it's almost impossible to find it nowadays :(

Some notes are lacking. This is a beautiful oriental scent with beautiful jasmine, sweet mandarin and tonka bean and the woodiness is delicate, this is a sweet sensual fragrance.

Wonderful perfume! I really think this will be my winter fragrance from now on and I hope Avon will not discontinue it.

From a 1ml manufacturer sample. This is an example of Avon doing a good job following trends. I enjoy this quite a bit. It's dark, sweet, and warm. A touch tropical, but mostly an evening or cool weather scent, though I fear cold temperatures might make it even more fleeting. And there we have the issue. It just doesn't last. I'm quite an Avon fan. And Mesmerize . . . The original one in the Cobalt bottle was my signature when it came out, and one I hope to own again. That being said, had I tested this 3 or 4 years ago (when it first came out), I might have swooned over this scent. I think my harsher judgement is a result of my development in taste, not in the scent itself. It certainly is on-par with offerings from Victoria's Secret, which charges 2-3x per bottle. My suggestion is, if you like warm, sweet, sensual scents on the lighter side, you might really like this. I think it could be quite the compliment getter if it doesn't disappear too quickly. Side note. I blind bought hubs the men's version with the after shave cream and shower gel, and he really enjoys it. The two are quite similar. Definitely complimentary.

Fragrance Notes Top Note Mandarin orange, Red fruits, Grapefruit, Apricot Heart Notes Neroli, Jasmine, Gardenia Base Notes Tonka bean, Musk, Australian sandalwood (from parfumo.net) I don't think anyone listed these notes yet and now Mesmerize Black makes more sense to me. I couldn't believe this only had 3 notes because I smell much more. I get the citrus and red fruit on the top and the neroli, jasmine, and sweetness from the tonka bean in the middle, on the base of sandalwood and musk. I don't get much apricot or gardenia. For a "black" perfume, this is a little restrained but still likable. Avon has some wonderful fragrances but they also have some really disappointing ones. This is one of the better ones but I wouldn't consider it dark. I get moderate sillage and longevity with this and think it would probably work best in colder weather.

I must note this 5/5. It is not anything special, but it is so nice that there is a scent that combines both; some subtleness and coziness;) this is great wear on all occasions, And for woman of any age, recommended;) I have also tried amber, but too peachery, sweet, though also nice;) I must try the blue version. Mesmerize series IMHO smells like shampoo;) but a lovely shampoo;) Update: Second bottle has just opened a few hours before. Surely strong sandal wood. My BF was an experimental subject;) on his wrist the drydown was much faster to the sandal. For my wrist, still was a nice shampoo smell, but yeah! Now I can smell this nice sandal! A little bit powdery, but very, very nicely;) calming and warm. Im considering getting him some mesmerize Black for him;) recommended;)

First of all, the notes aren't quite the same as written on the box. There isn't any sandalwood in the composition, but tonka beans along with mandarin and jasmine essence. Mesmerize is a sweet perfume. The jasmine is very sugary one and together with mandarin and tonka makes an overall warm and sweet impression. It's a good choice for cold months when you want something to warm you up and make you think of lucious sunny gardens full of jasmine bushes (while eating some mandarines ;))I like it, but I have to be in the right mood for it. It has the similar vibe as Armani Code. Oh, and I like the bottle :) It's simple and gives a nice oriental feeling.

This is an absolutely lovely perfume and an almost identical dupe for Roberto Cavalli Nero Assoluto!! I own both and have worn them on opposite arms at the same time and the differences are barely noticeable, the Avon is in my opinion softer on the opening but they end up almost the same. As usual with Avon, it doesn't last very well, but in my opinion, neither does Nero Assoluto, so why spend so much more for the expensive version, do yourself a favour and go with the Avon, and layer it up with the matching body lotion! Recommend to all, oh, and I haven't met a single person who doesn't love this on me!

I used to own this perfume. I will not say it's something very special, it's a nice woody, slightly warm and floral perfume. While nothing extraordinary, I really liked wearing it. Didn't last very long on my skin, but since it's not expensive I didn't mind spraying more often. I can't see a teen wearing it but neither someone much older, it would be perfect for your 20s and 30s. Perhaps at night. It made me feel cozy and sexy at the same time.

Beautiful perfume! classy and timeless. Smells expensive for the price- well put together. For the woman who dresses with class in tailored clothing. On my second bottle of this it is light vanilla and creamy sandalwood with lashings of jasmine. I am impressed smells very high end for an avon perfume. It is impossible to be disappointed with this perfume. Makes for a safe, affordable and charming gift for any woman

I really like the tart and sweet orange opening which projects well and lasts about 10-15min, the dry-down is nice as well. I mostly pickup sweet sandalwood and the sweetness feels similar to other Avon fragrance dry-downs and the sillage becomes more subtle. Up-close it smells delicious like a spicy dessert bread.

Orange, jasmine, vanilla, cotton candy. It's very nice, moderately sweet, full-bodied and has a luminous feel to it. It reminds me a lot of La vie est Belle in the opening, and then it's very reminiscent of Armani Code, with the orange and jasmine. This one stands out from the other Avon scents in my opinion.

I recieved. Ine afew days ago n sprayed 3 times n left overnite, smells nice longivity is good, couldnt stop smelling my wrist, has no silage bt its ok for the price n best used in winter to make kjt last long.....

This frag for me? In a few words: Pink sugar sensual meets Moonlight path!!! But I like it,it's sweet, cozy and confortable. I wish it was more intense (the staying power is decent, though).

On me it is a little sparkling orange and jasmine, jasmine, jasmine! Personally I find it as a cheaper version of Alien Eau Extraordinaire by Thierry Mugler.

I like it but feel to young to wear it. Would buy it for my mum or aunt though.

I purchased this perfume after trying the smell in avon catalogue. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed when I received the product. What I thought will be a sophisticated sweet womanly scent just smells cheap and synthetic, and a little bit like.. a scent for a more mature, maybe older person, perhaps I am too young for it. I do not smell the top note at all, it's just heavy, powdery, nauseatingly sweet, not long lasting scent. Reminds me of avon's little black dress, but that one's a bit fresher.. Looks like it's going to collect dust on the shelf.

I bought it, and it was strange fragrance, when i sprayd it it was too powerful, more like mens fragrance, smell wasnt bad, but i used only at home, cose anyway it didnt last more than 20 min, pointless. (In a catalog smelled different). And as most of new Avon fragrances, its also bery synthetic and especially linear, it means cheap, i would not go out wearing this on my skin and clothes.

Mesmerize Black smells really cheap and synthetic... At least on my skin. Mandarin orange and jasmine are my favourite notes in perfume, but in this fragrance I can only smell some kind of sweet plastic vanilla... I don't recommend it.

I was hoping for a low budget oriental judging by the lovely packaging, but what I got was oranges and very synthetic flowers. This one's not for me I'm afraid.

Fragrance Review For Mesmerize Black Avon Top Notes Mandarin Orange Middle Notes Jasmine Base Notes Sandalwood Avon! Let's not be snobs! This is a fragrance line with as much history as any vintage line (I'm talking about you Chanel and Lanvin). Avon fragrances are really gorgeous and simple, uncomplicated but memorable and never dull. I have many an Avon in my collection. It all began when my mother bought Avon fragrances from our local Avon lady in the 1980's. Avon today is a perfume line with celebrities who model for the line and with as much popularity as any of the newer fragrances like Marc Jacobs. I love Mesmerize Black. The bottle is very attractive, mysterious and vintage in appearance. It almost reminds me of Shiseido. The fragrance is a harmonic chemistry of citrus, jasmine and sandalwood. The mandarin orange smells like sweet summer oranges, delicious, fresh, sparkling, and the more I smelled it, it reminded me of some orange flavored liquor, like a curacao drink from the Caribbean. Exotic oranges. The jasmine is also on the exotic side, smelling exactly like Indian Night Jasmine. This is a night blooming jasmine, with a fragrance that deserves more than one whiff. I can't stop smelling my wrists. Jasmine and oranges, not quite tropical, but like having collected these scents from a trip to Sri Lanka. Absolutely beautiful. The sandalwood, an Oriental note, is also very well made. The dry down is woodsy with that sandalwood and it stays that way, just a fine woody aroma. For me this perfume is clearly unisex. It's neither softly feminine, or girly, or flirty. The citrus is not the citrus in a Victoria's Secret perfume. It's a pretty unisex common orange note found in men's colognes as well. The jasmine is indolic and rather masculine as well. And then the woodsy dry down, also like something in a man's cologne. I'm not saying this is very masculine either. It's a fragrance that seems to combine perfumes from both sexes. It's Oriental, captivating and sultry. This is very much my type of perfume. Highly recommended for fans of jasmine and citrus scents. This feels like it's perfect for autumn. It has superb longevity and sillage. I'm wearing this during New York Fashion Week, when I'm not in Guerlain Shalimar. Speaking of which this is like a Shalimar so if you're a guy or gal who wears Shalimar and enjoys citrus-jasmine-sandalwood Oriental scents like Shalimar, well there you go. This is just as nice.

There is one very important note missing here, a note that made me order a set without much thinking - the tonka beans. I am pretty sure I am not just imagining it, I can definitely smell tonka from this potion. It holds everything together and blends in a really sensual, classy way. It's quite comforting and uplifting at the same time, must be due to the mandarin orange which for me sits in a far background behind the tonka and jasmine. Avon has already done something similar in Far Away Bella which is one of my favourites from Avon, and this one follows Bella pretty close. Just wish this was done as EDP instead of EDT as the sillage and longevity is medium at best. This is definitely a daytime scent or for a weekend at home with family and friends, not a ‘go-out’ one. I do like it, lovely fragrance at a great price.

My first impression about this fragrance was that of another cloying sweet floral, nauseating fragrance. But again, I was wrong! A week ago, I was testing long forgotten fragrances in my collection, with the intention of doing some purging and to my surprise, this showed up like a little Cinderella...5 minutes after spraying it on my skin, a beautiful woody jasmine showed up. Still in denial, I started doing my research on fragrantica to find out that people truly appreciate it. To my nose, this fragrance has other unlisted notes, like almond, rose and amber. It's true that the opening has a sort of a harsh, bitter mandarin, but turns out that the base notes are a lush mix of warm oriental flowery notes. Longevity on skin 6-8 hours, on clothes more than 12 hours.

When will I learn about Avon? Swayed by the bottle and reviews, I blind bought this - new, cheap, and - instant disappointment. I don't smell anything remotely jasmine, sandalwood or anything else natural-y, just a generic chemical shampoo-like smudge. 'Maybe' it's a generational thing? So many perfumes today seem to smell similar to this. Generational nose blindness maybe? Even more chemicals in perfume than there used to be? I'm in my late 40's and loved the Avon smells of the 70s and 80s, so maybe it's just a matter of generation or taste, I can't bear most popular modern perfumes, but again ... swayed by things including the bottle, the styling of which bears no relation to the contents, in my opinion.

I have tried to stop blind buying so many perfumes so I bought some samples of this for about a pound off eBay. It is quite like armarni code. It starts off so and has a sweeg play dough like dry down in a nice way. I have now ordered a set with 50ml edp, 10ml purse spray and body lotion for a tenner. This is a fantastic budget perfume that doesn't smell cheap

This reminds me of Avon's Natori by Josie Natori from the early 90's. It's soft but not quite as sweet as Natori was. Really nice, I only got a purse spray but I might have to get some more. Very subtle hint of Dolce & Gabbana pour femme, something marshmallowy/dessertish about it. One of their best current offerings.

Juicy, sweet and slightly woody.This gorgeous bottle could have contained something much more mysterious, woody and intriguing. Alas, Mesmerise Black is yet another Avon, there is no jasmine at all, just praline with hints of woodiness.

Reminds me of something in my childhood but I cannot put my finger on it. This is a very sweet fruity scent, I wish it was a little darker, deeper. I smell no tonka beans here. pleasant but would become sickening very quickly.

FYI - This is not available in North America. I was told by the fragrance team possibly next year but the US will pick this one up. It is currently available in Latin America and Europe

This is my favourite perfume from Avon. It smells like a high end perfume, not 10 dollars Avon scent .If you want a really good perfume on a budget, this is the one!

Nothing special, can smell the mandarin and a bit of vanilla. Will probably wash it off soon because it's boring me.

This is very similar to estee lauder modern muse nuit. Lovely floral oriental.

A beautuful Jasmine sweetness .. high 5 AVON !!
