Mesmerize for Women

I was 16 when this fragrance came out, and I was selling Avon at the time. I thought the scent and the bottle we're the most gorgeous things, and it became my signature despite some of my customers insisting that it was too mature for me. So imagine my joy when I won a vintage bottle in a giveaway. I'm thrilled to have this again! I get absolutely no fruit or citrus in this. To me, it's ALL about the reisins. It's sweet, resinous, powdery, slightly woody and spicy, and enough dirty animalic that it makes me swoon. Early June in Haiti brings temps in the mid-90s, and this beauty just purrs! It becomes a skin scent fairly quickly, meaning it's not weak and doesn't have poor performance, but it locks on to my skin and doesn't radiate very far. Movement will circulate it, other than that, people have to be close to smell it, and that's perfect. It's by far one of the most intimate and sensual scents I've ever worn. Of course it's also loaded with memories of a very difficult senior year of high school, but even the memories are somehow comforting.

I owned this when it came out in 92. I miss Avon. I miss my local Avon Lady, she died several years back and I was heartbroken, she was a very nice lady. The Avon lady was part of the community and Avon sold a quality affordable product that was brought right to your door from a neighbor and a friend. I haven't tried any of their new perfumes but this old one was a gem. Imagine my surprise when I was out and about the other day and found this in an antique shop where I live. I asked the owner if I could give a little spray to see if it had gone off and she said yes. I was so happy when I smelled this powdery, amber, incense sweetness, it was just like I remembered. It isn't a full bottle it is about 1/2 full so I won't get to go crazy w/ it LOL but I am happy to have this in my collection again. This is a beautiful sweet, powdery, amber fragrance. Mesmerize for Women is my favorite Avon fragrance and one of my favorite fragrances of all time. Sadly, this has been discontinued in the U.S. It's been several years since I had a bottle and have wanted one badly. I took a chance and ordered a bottle on Ebay. I lucked out! I received the classic cobalt blue bottle as shown above and the original box. It was in great condition and smelled just as I remembered. Myrrh takes center stage in this perfume and I absolutely love it! It's spicy, smoky, balsamic, and woodsy. The perfect blend for fall and winter. It's such a shame that this beauty is no longer available. :(

Top notes; balsamic, rosemary and bergamot. Middle notes; exotic spices. Base notes; a spicy oriental scent of amber and woody notes. What I really love about the fragrance is that it is so oriental but not very heavy. It has an amazing combination of exotic spices, amber and woody notes yet it is very feminine and mystic. By the way, this EDT perfume lasts more than many EDPs. Sometimes this scent smells like a blackberry-chocolate cake on me -which I never complain because I love it-. I was thrilled to find they bought this one out recently. it may be a new formula but I don't mind as I don't know the old one. I tried a scented page in the avon book and loved it. luckily for me I won a new sealed bottle off ebay yesterday so shall update when Ive worn it for real edit.. just received it and its gorgeous! it seems to have a coffee note, its very strong and dense. love it! Edit. does anyone else think the new version smells like body shop amorito or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Why oh why are perfumes discontinued (or changed)?!? This is my personal favorite Avon scent, although I do enjoy many of them. Mesmerize reminds me a bit of Jovan's Frankincense and Myrrh, another discontinued perfume. It is not too sweet and could work as a man's scent (yes, I know they made a Mesmerize for Men, too, but I mean if that was not available). Avon is the best for fragrance layering, because they make so many scented products.

EXCITED! I just received three vintage bottles of Mesmerize in the mail! It was my favorite fragrance years ago, and it still is. The spices and wood and amber all blend perfectly on me, while the citrus notes gently hang in the background. I'm in love all over again. This is my signature. This is me! Update: longevity is maybe 3-4 hours, and if it is on my wrist and I wash my hands, it is gone. Still, it is perfect for the holidays.

OOOOH MY Goodness!! This is really very very delicious! The Myrrh is the shining note in this fragrance. It is almost myrrh essential oil. That is what I think of when I wear this. Myrrh. Myrrrrrrhhhhh. Roll ur rrrs. :) So wonderful! I am so glad that my little Avon store had a few left from before it left the US. I love myrrh and frankensense. Love love love those ancient wonderful delicious smells. So this DID mesmerize me!

A great fragrance that should be on everyone's "go to" list. A gentle, slightly spicy woody, very similar to Cashmere Mist. Perfect for any occasion, time of day, time of year. All of the great Avon's have a surprize: the honey in Occur!, the cedar in Timeless for example. A soft, warm touch of chocolate seems to be hidden in the heart of this one. It gives a velvety smoothness that few other perfumes have.

this reminds me of old times... i prefer this version over the male one... it's just much richer to me and last longer... luckily i was able to get myself this classic on ebay who's cleaning up their perfume line... it was 95% full i dunno... for some reason, i like womens perfume more... they always smell richer and pleasant compared to their male versions... obsession, eternity, clinique and so fort...

Mesmerize is one of my favorite early autumn scents. On me, it is all spice and resin without a hint of sharpness. It is soft and round and sits comfortably close to your skin, allowing you to catch delightful whiffs of yourself without overpowering or offending anyone around you. To me, Mesmerize is the ultimate fuzzy sweater scent, and I will always keep it on stockpile.

I just got the latest version (2015) and I smell peachy vanilla. Very beautiful fragrance. If you are looking for a smell-alike, try Katy Perry's Purr. Purr is not as intense as this one, but they are definitely similar.

So, if you've seen any of my previous reviews and Fragram posts you've read of my love for Avon's Cotillion cologne. A regular mini gift from my family's Avon Lady, Aunty Debbie. I love myrrh, sandalwood, and spices. Well Cotillion was canceled in the early 2000's, and what replaced it? The reformulated Mesmerize line did in 2006. Perhaps a little part of me is a tad bit resentful of this usurper, this pretender to the crown, but only a tad. Here's the breakdown: My bottle is from the first 2006 reformulated release and she needed a new atomizer head! No problem for me! First spritz; ah, initially a light citrus scent hits. The bergamot initially stands out, but is tempered with the slightly sweeter orange and apple and a hint of neroli and white florals. It's not an Avon fragrance without the powdery floral note, at least not until after the company was bought out. Hour two: into the drydown now and I definitely got a sense of the cypress and amber. The myrrh and spices are pretty subdued on me. Hubby thinks it's nice though. I am admittedly missing the OOMF of my beloved Cotillion though. Hour 4: aaaannnnndddd she's gone. Completely. Hubby is home today so I ask him for a whiff test to make sure it's not just me who can't smell it. Nope, she's gone! Time to reapply. First re-application: The myrrh and cypress stand out a bit more this time, but so does the citrus. Until the citrus dries off they don't totally harmonize on me. If this were a bit more citrus dominant this would make a decent all year scent and I think it works fine for summertime in the first citrus heavy hour. After dinner I reapply again, but this time I add in some of Coty's Vanilla Musk. Oh yeah, that was nice. It warmed up the scent beautifully and it just smelled very soothing. Both are cost friendly scents so it's great that they work so well together. And unlike a lot of my vintage Avon haul Mesmerize is still available. A nice, budget scent, inoffensive and pleasant, and good for layering. I say go ahead and try a sample out and see if it's for you.

Well done Avon. I've never smelled the older version, but this formulation smells sweet (more like a caramel sweetness) and I find it close to a gourmand scent rather than an oriental scent. To my nose, some citrus notes come out every now and then without interfering with the sweetness of the scent. I dont get powdery notes (at the heart), just a combination creating a warm caramel. In that sense, I find Mesmerize very similar to Body Shop's Brazil Nut, since Brazil Nut is also very delicious and it's the same type of smell (but Brazil Nut is more linear than Mesmerize and has a "burnt" caramel heaviness). This one is different than traditional Avon kind of scents and I guess Avon is experimenting with gourmands this year (when you think about the other recent launches). I'm not sure about longevity and sillage because I haven't worn it outside yet. I think both are moderate. In my opinion, Mesmerize is a price/performance winner.

I bought a vintage bottle, just like the picture shown here, off ebay. I had it years ago, and reviewed it below briefly. I'm wearing it now, and can give a better review. This is rather complex, and the myrrh is the real star of this perfume, at least initially. I've had it on twenty minutes, and the myrrh is really prominent. I wish I could remember if I used up my bottle I had in 1992, but I'm guessing I didn't. It does seem to get sweeter as I wear it. At first I thought it was slightly masculine, but that's wearing off. I do think a man could wear this, though. I'm sad to hear that there has been a reformulation of this. I'll have to smell it, just out of curiosity. Also, this is one of Avon's prettier bottles. Avon has put out a few rare gems, and I consider this to be one of them, along with Facets(another oldie), and Mirada, and one of their latest, named Attraction.

This is an extremely woodsy, oriental, and spicy fragrance. I still have a practically full bottle of this left from when my mother gave it to me as a young teen in the late 90's. I suppose i came to the conclusion that it was a more grown-up type of scent and even smelling it now, i think to myself that i can definitely only wear this on a night out. This original formulation that i have reminds me a lot of incense with vague hints of sweetness and warmth. It would definitely suit on a crisp, nippy night, making it a great scent to wear during the winter. This isn't a perfume i would wear every day but definitely one to have in the collection as it is truly a very compelling and mystifying scent.

Mesmerize is my latest purchase, and it doesn't remind me of any other perfume I know. I simply love it. I can spray it generously around my hair and clothes, and it's never too much. The scent is something I really enjoy this time of year, during the cold, dark season. This is cozy, warm, mysterious, softly and gently oriental with a gourmand twist. There is nothing fruity or green here, this is completely warm and soft. I would have preferred the bottle in the picture here, rather than my blue-gold-version. But it is ok, too. A nice surprise from Avon, with a very reasonable price.

This is a very sweet and charming fragrance! I don't know why the note of white apricots isn't listed here, since it's the highest and the best of this perfume. I bought it yesterday because a classmate of mine in the university was wearing it and smelled BEAUTIFUL! I deducted her fragrance was Mesmerize since she sells Avon products and some time ago she mentioned she liked how Mesmerize smelled. It is very femenine, classy and spicy oriental. I think if you like fragrances like Lolita Lempika's L or Britney Spears' Curious, you'll absolutely love Mesmerize.

I thought I did'nt like Mesmerize but since yesterday All I thought was I have to wear this. So I went crazy looking for a small bottle I had in a box were I keep those perfumes I don't wear often. I spray a little as a test. And I couldnt stop smelling my wrist all day long. Today is Mesmerize 's day . and it feels just right . It is mysterious and playful Like Samsara , Opium or Obsession that mysterious aura that involves it. Its comforting relaxing. I dont know how to explain myself. this how it makes me feel .Im surprice that I actually like it alot.
