Sparkling Neroli

This is a scent I've been looking for for years. It reminds me of my childhood, a scent I associate with my grandmother, but I've never been able to figure out what it was that she wore. She did wear a lot of Avon scents back then so I'm guessing this "new" scent was inspired by their vintage stock. I absolutely love the composition- fresh musk, bright citrus and white floral that dries down to a sweet skin scent. Perfect for a sunny spring or fall day. Unfortunately it doesn't last longer than an hour or two for me. Then again, this is pretty typical of Avon scents so I'm not too surprised. I just wish I could find something similar in a higher quality brand.

I'd been wanting to try this fragrance for quite some time, and when the travel-sized spray went on sale, I ordered it. I'm happy I did! It's not complex and has a perfect summer scent--bright and sunny, yet with some warmth. It's got quite a sharp citrusy scent at first spray, but not unpleasant. On dry-down, the musk softens and matures the fragrance. Not a bombshell fragrance, but a great everyday scent.

Speaking of its longevity, Sparkling Neroli pleasantly surprises with its staying power on the skin, lasting a solid 6 hours. Though after the first hour it fades into a gentle, soft skin scent. For the first hour, the projection reaches out to about arm's length. I do wish that projection lasted longer. It is worth mentioning that the retail price of Sparkling Neroli may be considered slightly steep. However, savvy shoppers can often find this fragrance on sale, sometimes offering enticing discounts of 40-50% off the original price. If you chance upon such a deal, it would undoubtedly be the opportune moment to make this fragrance your own. The bottle design is much like the fragrance, simple and pretty.

I’ve never worn Neroli Portofino, but do love a good neroli fragrance and am often a fan of Avon scents. Got this off of eBay (sorry Avon, I’m cheap!), new and unopened. My favorite neroli fragrance is Bright Neroli (BN) by Ferrari which is an absolute gem and a joy to wear. Sparkling Neroli starts with a more astringent note than BN, more zesty and less floral; then it rolls into a more candied lemon scent before evolving into a lemony floral neroli note. The evolution is pleasant and fresh, not veering into lemon Pledge territory although for a second it was close. BTW, no “Avon note” at the start, at least to me. The middle stage is a musky floral lemon, a little earthier and mellow. The musk becomes stronger and the lemon lighter as the fragrance evolves. It does get quite faint after 3-ish hours. Overall, a fresh, enjoyable fragrance that does sparkle and is quite close to BN. For the price, this is a very good fragrance. Recommend if you like neroli, need a summer fragrance or just need something to lift your mood.
