Essence

Another scent that I’m devastated isn’t in production anymore (at least it hasn’t been for well over a decade in Australia). Hanging onto the vintage bottles I have as long as I’m able to, just can’t wear it very often as a result unfortunately. As another review says though, the notes being listed here don’t sound right? It smells a lot more musky to me, not clean and fresh like these fragrance notes would suggest.

Bought this all the way back in middle school and was my regular all the way through high school. The last time I purchased a bottle was around 2015 when I finally found out about Eros and ditched the whole Axe thing. It's been sitting in my bathroom medicine cabinet since then gathering dust. Forgot I had it until today. Dug out my old bottle, sprayed it on a paper towel and it smells like I remember. Clean, spicy, a little bit rich but definitely green. I can't hate on this stuff, it gets the job done. But with how poor the longevity is and the fact that you have to basically drown yourself in it to wear it, I'll probably never wear it again. I tried smelling some of the aluminum free deodorant in the grocery store recently and it's a completely different fragrance that smells awful, it's a shame they're ruining one of the classic Axe scents. I'll always keep this old bottle, back when the formula was better. I might spray it every once in a while to bring back nostalgic memories. 8.5/10

Axe Essence, another one of the early US release Axe fragrances. I had it in high school and college but it quickly got replaced with trying other scents. Even in the days of using bodyspray, I actually had a few in my rotation and not just one "go to"... That said, I must say that I forgot what this smelt like and thought it was done. Then I saw it return in about the last week or so. I finally retried it in a Walmart and found it smelt like something but it didn't register. Then I don't know how but I thought Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger and it clicked. Essence is a non-minty Tommy so I actually still like it. I just have little use for bodyspray at this point in my life with using EDTs and EDCs instead.

Didn’t realize Axe stuff was on this site, but I guess it is a fragrance. I had a ton of this stuff back in college, a lot of which appears to be out of production. I picked up essence at the grocery store just because. I’m pretty sure I had this one before. It still smells somewhat like I remember. Aromatic, some green notes but mainly one-dimensional. No complexity here, but that’s not what it’s meant to be. I’ll probably rarely wear this out, but great for working in the yard.

Bought one for the nostalgia. This does not smell the same as I remember back in the day. This smells now like coconut, very similar to excite. Not worth it anymore

Has anyone tried the new "48 Hour Fresh" reformulation of Axe Essence? I tried the new Apollo (48 Hour updated version) and it smelled so chemically abrasive, and so many recent reviews on Walmart say that the new Essence has that exact same "now even more synthetically repugnant" downgrade. I have no clue when the reformulation from "All Day Fresh" to "48 Hour Fresh" happened (maybe February 2020?) but I can confirm they definitely have different ingredients. Axe Gold, Gold Fresh, Black, and Anarchy are my top favorites. Axe Anarchy is also excellent and seems to be the best of the sweet-smelling Axes (Excite, Apollo, and Essence.) Those are definitely my top five favorite Axes. Also, at some Publix's you can get them 2/$8, which is even lower than Walmart, fun fact! Update: Just tried the new 48hr Essence, smells perfectly fine, very woody and sadly generic. I definitely still prefer Anarchy!

These notes are totally WRONG they are Black Pepper and Cedar! Where is this Apple, Fig Leaf, Thyme and Green Notes? From? This never smelled like that!
