Cool Water is an Iconic perfume My story: Well, how to make my story straight. When I was in late 80s/early 90s all the Bdays, Magic Kings(Spanish tradition for kids) was involved about perfumes. At that time Cool Water advertisement was in every where: magazine, newspaper and tv spots. One day in a shop a just saw that beautiful bottle and I smelled and it was the most pleasefully aromatic ever smell before(and after). Just give me the feeling that I am in a deep ocean sailing with the Sun in front on me. Never ever I smell an aquatic scent like this, literally never. Years later as an adult working as a business man early in the new millennium every single day I was buying a perfume: Dolce&Gabbana pour homme, Le Male, 212 sexy, Aqua di Gio, but all the time I was inside of the stores to decide which one to buy always I was testing Cool Water to get that deep rich aromatic perfume that transport me to the sea, to make me escape from the city(I'm from Madrid where there is not beach) and make me feel calm, relax and keep going for the rest of the day, but always I thought "is very cheap, I will have a chance to buy later, no worries"...but never happens. Now, living in Japan I discovered this gem in Mega Donki, I tested several times even if in the same self are selling Sauvage Dior, Pi by Givenchy, Platinium Egoiste, no one of them caught my attention more than Cool Water and finally in 2025 when all this journey to bring back my memories, to buy a bulk of perfumes as I was doing when I was a kid started with Cool Water. My thoughts: Cool Water is definitely the ONE you need for summer: clean, inoffensive, bold, personality and not mature, not too young, perfect timing. Is very versatile and you can use for a Gym, walking in a lazy day, casual meeting and night time where definitely shining more the breeze of night and evoke a mysterious way. Unfortunately the new reformulation has nothing to do with the oldest one that you can even use confident in Winter and keep with the aroma for almost all day but now is only a summer version and is very very weak, in just 2/3 hours is done. My recommendation is spray 10 times including your clothes, not too much and no one is going to to call 911 to report you for air contamination. For the new Generations: If you are here reading this is because you searching this gem, means you know the value of this perfume and I highly recommend you to buy for several reason: history, iconic, versatile, amazing. If you are in the wave of "blue perfumes" and you already has Bleu de Chanel, Sauvage, Dylan Blue and Polo Blue you MUST to get this one, is the origin of all of them, the father that inspire and invented the word "blue" for a perfumes. COOL WATER – MY TIME MACHINE TO THE 90s THE SCENT OF MY YOUTH RECLAIMED For me, this fragrance is so much more than just a scent. It is a portal back to the 90s - the most beautiful time of my life. It was my childhood, my youth, and a very specific milestone: Gammon Blue Water by Beiersdorf was my first ever After Shave. Back when I didn't even use perfume, that After Shave was my daily ritual for my first shaves and my first steps into manhood. I was obsessed with it. When that drugstore treasure disappeared, a piece of my history felt lost. I spent nearly twenty years searching for an adequate substitute, not realizing that the "soul" of my first After Shave was actually modeled after this very original: Davidoff Cool Water. A REVOLUTION IN FRESHNESS: THE END OF THE 80S POWERHOUSES Davidoff’s Cool Water was a true disruptor. It single-handedly kicked the heavy, animalic "powerhouses" of the 80s to the curb and cleared the air to usher in a completely new era of freshness. It wasn't just a new scent; it was a knockout blow that paved the way for the modern age of clean, aquatic fragrances. LAYERING TIPS AND SYNERGIES Through my journey, I’ve discovered some fantastic ways to play with this DNA: For Casual Days & "Feel-good" Freshness: I love combining the Cool Water After Shave with the original Cool Water EdT - it’s the logical choice, especially when you can get the 200 ml bottle for under 30 Euros. Alternatively, you can go with Aspen by Coty, which is the greener and even cheaper version at around 7 Euros (for 118 ml). At these prices, you don't have to be stingy - you can spray as much and as often as you please. For A More Refined Appearance: If I want something a bit more elegant and "polished," I pair the Cool Water After Shave with Tres Nuit by Armaf. The combination is stunning and elevates the aquatic theme to a noble, sophisticated level. CONCLUSION: THE ETERNAL ANCHOR The irony of my journey is that Davidoff Cool Water was always there, right in front of me. It was omnipresent, a global icon, yet I never connected the dots. Cool Water... Blue Water... I simply didn't see it for what it was. I spent years searching the horizon for a ghost, not realizing that the original masterpiece was waiting for me all along. I am so relieved and incredibly happy that I finally "checked" it and brought this legend back into my life. It allows me to reclaim the joy of my youth. Whether I keep it classic, combine the After Shave with Aspen or enhance it with Tres Nuit, it remains my timeless anchor. It was a masterpiece back then, and it remains the soundtrack of my life today.

Time for review number 100 and there was only one fragrance that could mark this milestone: Davidoff Cool Water, released in 1988 by Pierre Bourdon. Normally I break down notes in my reviews, but for this one, it doesn’t need it. This is a legendary, timeless fragrance that has earned its place in history. In simple terms it’s clean, masculine, sporty, and aquatic with that classic aftershave vibe. It reminds me a lot of Green Irish Tweed since they were perfumed by the same person, but Cool Water is much more affordable and widely available. The opening is fresh with mint and lavender, the heart brings in geranium, and it warms up in the dry down with old fashioned musks. Cool Water stands among the classics such as Drakkar Noir, Aspen, and many others. My father owned a bottle of it, and his father ended up owning one as well. That history alone makes it special, but beyond that, this fragrance helped me develop my preference for aquatic scents and really sparked my passion for exploring fragrances in general. You can find Cool Water almost anywhere, Walmart, Target, department stores, small fragrance shops in strip malls, fragrance discounters, or even in your uncle’s cupboard. That’s how much weight it carries. I have smelled other fragrances and even soaps that try to imitate it, but nothing comes close to the original clean, fresh smell. It could perform a little better, but for the price it hardly matters. I do regret not picking up more of the flankers when they were easier to find in the early 2000s. Even now, discovering them reminds me how influential this fragrance has been. If I smelled it for the first time today, I might not feel the same way, but its history, its place in the fragrance world, and the way it shaped my journey make it impossible not to appreciate. And it makes me happy reading other reviews to see that there is still a large number of people appreciating this fragrance almost 40 years later. Generic maybe, but it is the fragrance that set the standard for clean scents and inspired so many others. I have had Cool Water since I started exploring fragrances, and I will always keep that same bottle along with another for when I want to look back and enjoy this timeless classic just like I do today.

My eighth grade year was distinguished by several memorable events. My first girlfriend, Jurassic Park in theaters, and the great cologne wars of Edna Hill Middle School. The superpowers were the Cool Water faction and the Aspen collective. Usurpers and smaller bands of Preferred Stock, and Gravity adherents were to be found but this was truly a battle of Fougeres. Blue and green. Our homerooms were awash in the oversprayed underwashed masses of boys on the verge of adolescence with teachers and the young sunflower drenched girls as our casualties. Aspen in its mighty mint green apple opening and lavender heart was such an easy one to enjoy. Not to be outdone the marine coolness and lavender top notes of cool water smelled refreshing as a drink on a hot day. Our battlegrounds, I like to believe smelled as the Creed lab that created Green Irish Tweed would have before its perfection. I, Union aficionado that I am, wore the blue. I believed that Cool Water was simply more interesting to smell. After middle school I denied Cool Water as Peter did Jesus. I thought it cheap and outdated, unwilling to be associated with such a fragrance I denounced it roundly. 20 odd years later, while in law school, I finally came home. While cologne shopping with my girlfriend I saw the simple blue bottle and black cap at the Macy's counter and thought for old times sake I would give it a sniff. And there I stood transplanted to the heart of the nineties remembering why I enjoyed fragrances to begin with. Because it is the piece of clothing that when it fits, is the most proper of all. I smelled summer time and I smelled refreshment. I love Cool Water because of the memories, I love it because of it's simple message, most of all I love it because it smells nice. p.s. being cheap doesn't hurt either. p.p.s. كول وتر من دافيدوف هو عطر تاريخي و أرى تجربته ضرورة لأي عاشق للعطور في نهاية الثمانينات كانت العطور الرائجة هي الفوجير و العطور الحيوانية المسكية القوية: كورس و أنتايوس و لابيدوس مع بدأ عصر جاز و فهرنهايت، فجأة تغير كل شيء و ظهر عطر تسبب في توجه جديد تماما قضى على هذه الديناصورات و أرسلها للمتحف، هذا العطر كان كول وتر من نفس عطار كورس، المبدع بيير بوردون، ظهر تحفة كريد جرين ايرش تويد، عطر هادئ واثق يهمس بالثقة و لا يصرخ بها، عطر يمثل الرجولة الكلاسيكية البريطانية تماما مثل بدلة من صوف تويد الايرلندي كما يوحي الاسم في حين كان اصدار كريد متحفظا و بطابع فوجير عشبي أرضي في الافتتاح زهري خشبي مسكي في القاعدة، و يستهدف فئة محدودة فكريد وقتها كانت لفئات معينة جدا و لا يوجد تسويق الكتروني كما اليوم، ذهب بيير بوردون لعمل نسخة معدلة من تحفته السابقة: هذه النسخة المعدلة كانت كول وتر هذه المرة استعمل افتتاحية مائية منعشة و إن كانت لا تخلو من الفوجير، هذا الانتعاش يستمر طوال العطر و لكن بمجرد أن تمضي الربع ساعة الأولى سيظهر عليك جليا التشابه مع جرين ايريش تويد، قلب زهري خشبي مع ارتكاز واضح على خشب الصندل و المسك في القاعدة التجربة كلها أكثر انتعاش و عصرية من كلاسيكية جرين ايريش تويد، و لكن الجانب الكلاسيكي و الفوجير موجود و أمر مفهوم تماما لعطر أصدر في قمة شعبية هذه الفئة من العطور: اللافندر و اكليل الجبل و الجيرانيوم و الكسبرة هي نوتات فوجير كلاسيكية هذا المزج بين الفوجير و النوتات البحرية و الكولونيا مع القلب و القاعدة الزهرية الخشبية يجعل كول وتر عطرا ثوريا و تجربة غيرت سوق العطور للأبد، لا اعتقد أن هناك عطر آخر نجح باطلاق عصر كامل من العطور المحاكية و قضى على سابقيه مثل كول وتر الا أوو سوفاج و كريد أفنتوس بالنسبة لي استمتع بالافتتاحية أكثر من باقي تركيبة العطر، و لكنه عطر مرن و يصلح لمعظم الأوقات و المناسبات في الأجواء المعتدلة و الحارة و يبدع خصوصا في نهار الصيف الأداء للنسخة التي عندي جيد جدا بثبات يصل ل 8 ساعات و فوحان في أول ساعتين مقارنة بالسعر هذا عطر يجب أن يقتنيه أو يجربه أي شخص محب للعطور التقييم 4.4/5 نظرا لقيمته التاريخية
