I Am Darkness

This one is gorgeous. A beautiful fresh fragrance with a masculine bitter green citrus chypre edge. Easily to my personal tastes as I like things like vintage Rochas Moustache EDTC in the "Column" bottle. I Am Darkness is full bodied with many complex tropical nuances from juicy and refreshing grapefruit, bergamot and tropical flowers and a dark weightiness from high quality Cambodian oud, woody, balsam fir, with a thick, bitter and piney frankincense. If you've already tried it, one can smell the Nutt's own newest release Kham ข่าม or "Unbeatable" in Northern Thai Dialect lurking in the foundation of I Am Darkness providing a very pungent, bitter and wild element to the fragrance that harmonizes with the tropical and damp, sour, decayed fruit sensation given by the Cambodian oud. A brilliant duality with a fresh juicy tropical heart that is maintained gracefully throughout the wearing and is properly decorated with a masculine and bitter edginess. It is sentimental to me because its earthen qualities remind me of my vacation in Phuket Thailand a long time ago. The natural smells of walking through the humid rain forests. Then within I Am Darkness there are also metropolitan smells of the Thai stores selling leather goods, silk, varnished wood carvings made of teak wood and the dampened asphalt roads baking in the temperate tropical heat. A quality fresh oud that can easily compete with established western brands that charge 4 times this and middle eastern houses that produces quality mukhallats like Rasasi in which it slightly reminds me of "Asrar Indonesia" with a more potent skank of high-quality oud and dimension. No real relation and much different than it after smelling them side by side. Asrar Indonesia uses Indonesian oud, grapefruit and ginger. I believe here the grapefruit, blackpepper and closely related Cambodian oud profile produces a fleetingly similar realistic juicy tropical nuance with a bitter edge. It wears quite refreshing, atmospheric, balanced with intensely bright and effervescent elements and intensely dark elements. The Cambodian oud, slightly warm frankincense with citrus, pine and vanilla nuances and oakmoss in I Am Darkness produce a textbook chypre backbone that smells rich and is allowed to growl! The first one I wore out and to work when my sample set arrived and at first it was perplexing and challenging because of how bitter it was. But now I enjoy it thoroughly and it is due to be had for this upcoming spring season. It is exciting to experience how this fragrance grows and displays such beautiful and complex tropical nuances in the air. One wearing is completely different from another. There are true naturals at work here. A masterfully blended, refreshing, masculine Oud with an Ancient Southeast Asian feel. Masculine and a decent performer. How fitting, I will be dining at a Thai Restaurant tonight! I will wear it again and update this review. Test first... 🍋🍌🌲 10/10

In my mind, I Am Darkness was made using some sort of ancient mysticism– a ritual that created a potion that transports the wearer into that dark and quiet spiritual plane where profound truths whisper when all else is silence. It is one of a few fragrances that speak to me on a much deeper level. I can’t say anyone else will connect with it the same way, but this is how I experience the stunning incense-centric masterpiece that is I Am Darkness.

Opening very fruity and bright. I feel pearl, jasmine, sweet flowers. Well blended. Easy to wear. With the drydown gets woody with a little incense. Complex one. Perfect unisex for grownup people.

Well what a mysterious fragrance At initial spray it’s very shrap might be too much for some especially people that gravitate towards a more calm approach It’s the incense mixed mostly with citrus The strongest notes I got are the incense maybe a little oud It’s a heavy one indeed The florals didn’t annoy me much since they are not very prominent Longevity was very good projection could’ve been better What I got from testing it is that it’s something you plan to wear it’s not easy to just pick it out of the blue and wear it

A bright almost cheery incense based floral chypre (the name is a real head scratcher) that recalls the smell of temple incense sticks. The perfume opens with the central incense surrounded by citrus, fir, pepper and dried fruit notes. The brief heart is mostly floral but also has slight oud. The perfume settles on a powdery rather flat base of labdanum, oakmoss and amyris. The unisex scent has moderate to strong projection and good longevity. All in all interesting and worth sampling for incense aficionados. Enjoy!

This one is quite likeable and has a great opening (first 15mins). Those who enjoy vintage style (slightly animalic) will like this. The dry down is mildly aromatic with incense. Masculine and fit for special occasions. Longevity is good with modest performance. Shukran Habibi!

#1199 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is a scent that if you try it at the fragrance counter, you should shop for an hour and smell it on your skin before buying it. If you buy it right away because of the beautiful opening I think you'll regret it. This puts me in mind of Les Liquides Imaginaires "Sancti", also fruity and heavy on the incense in the opening, but as with this scent from Azman, interesting opening, disappointingly mundane dry down, projection of six inches in a half hour unless you really bathe in this stuff and spray your clothing. A fragrance that this quickly is a mostly fir skin scent, albeit an all day one, is not worth a $200 price tag to me.

This fragrance reminds me of the smell of a gothic church that has incense burning inside with no ventilation. Despite the fruit and floral notes, the smell of incense overpowers them all and the black pepper adds a slight burning sensation to your nose. If you dislike generic incense, this fragrance might make you nauseous, as it did for me.

Total no from me. 100% no. Scrubber. Smells like floor cleanser.

Can't you see that you're smothering me Holding too tightly, afraid to lose control? While driving through busy lanes, light drizzle, listening to chester's angelic voice, i put on few sprays of I'm Darkness in cabin. I thought to myself, why "darkness", for a such a bright perfume? 'Cause everything that you thought I would be Has fallen apart right in front of you. As poetry flowed and perfume unveiled its color, it dawned on me that this is not a perfume put an expression of a feeling, of our inner darkness, our wish to become someone we are not. But it does have a silver lining towards the end of long tunnel if and only if, we accept and respect who we are. Only then, it becomes scent of peace, of mother earth, of green jungle, of a lone temple on the mountain, of a smiling monk. I'm Darkness is built on a foundation of Fruity Chypre with emphasis on the bitter citruses and forest greens. But it is the incense that uplifts the whole blend, making it soothing and slightly balmy in nature. The "Oud" element is not very apparent in this scent which might be due to the fact that Combodian Oud is itself very medicinal and smokey in general. Overall tonality of the fragrance is very warm and it displays yellowish green color in the spectrum. Let me be clear right away, I love Majnoon. It is a phenomenal perfume and right up my alley. So is Killer Vavoom and Two Minutes. But I'm Darkness is stroke of genius by Mr. Nutt Wesshasartar, a masterpiece by every definition of the word.

I am darkness by Azman is a very well blended and high quality perfume, that opens up with a resinous incense that is backed by a blast of bright green citrus, then as the scent develops hints of florals start to come out as well as a faint oud that remains in the background of the scent while incense remains the main focus for the perfume. Overall this is a very pleasant and uplifting scent that does not match the name at all, it personally brings a wave of nostalgia and reminds me of spending my summers in Romania standing out in the church yard with my grandma which might be why I enjoy this as much as I do. On my skin I am disappointed with the overall longevity of the scent especially compared to other scents from azman but this is different for everyone and I would recommend trying it for yourself.

Mmmm I kinda don't agree with most of the reviews below. I am Darkness smells like a Vintage Chypre so if you like these types of fragrances you will enjoy this one too.
