Azzaro Couture

There are very few rose scents I can abide. I am not sure why as I adore the flower itself, but perhaps because I like the sharper or fresh green facet of the rose such as in Sirene by Vicky Tiel. My love for Tresor, a warm rose scent, is due to the fact that there is only one Grojsman scent I cannot stand, Spellbound, but I have worn and loved all other creations by her. We must have something close in our genetic makeup. So... I was a bit reluctant to try Azzaro Couture but thanks to the positive reviews here I did. I absolutely love it, it is fresh and green, thanks to galbanum and mimosa. I cannot tell you how enjoyable this scent is, plus it lasts for about 6 to 7 hours and much longer on hair or clothing. And apparently it makes me feel about 20 years younger. :-) It is also very reasonably priced and my only regret is that I did not discover this gem earlier. It is now among my favorites. Edit, Dec 27, 2019: I forgot the lovely powdery iris. For the past week or so this scent has become my favorite,I love every facet of it and am quite amazed how relatively uncomplicated but still greatly harmonious this scent seems to be.

To my nose, this is a hidden gem of well-blended floral notes on a bed of grassy, musky and slightly fruity accords. Yes, it is a cool fragrance, but not in a dark or aloof way. It's bright, as it has a clean and refreshing vibe about it, making me feel like I'm stepping out on a clear, crisp morning, the green of the foliage and the cool wind playing in my hair and over my face. It feels almost balsamic and as soft as a silk scarf, and I think it's well suited for any kind of weather. Also, it's office-safe and inoffensive. Even though it's not listed here, I believe there's patchouli in this fragrance, the kind I like - clean and with an elegant twist. In my view, Azzaro Couture is worthy of its name; it's beautiful, luminous, unique, and it should not have been discontinued.

Azzaro Couture is truly exceptional. Powdery mimosa, iris, ambrette seed and galbanum give this fragrance a luminous quality. It is an example of perfect balance and proportion in perfume composition. This lovely bouquet opens with a fresh green sharpness, but the florals take center stage throughout the development. Azzaro Couture is the embodiment of elegance and refined taste...the bejeweled bottle, not so much. Sillage is moderate and longevity is excellent--over 12 hours on my skin.! Wearable for any occasion, but especially for romantic evenings out. This one is at the top of my perfume rotation!

I get a giant wallop of a gorgeous, woody Iris. The galbanum gives it a nice slightly bitter, green musky note. All this combines nicely with the Mimosa, so the overall smell is woody, sweet, and slightly green and herbaceous. Classy. It's a little cool this morning, here in South Carolina, and this is perfect for this weather. I plan to rock this extensively in the fall.

Couture acts on my skin like a light green chypre and a very nice one, for day and night, not too serious and old fashioned, feminine bright and moderately sweet albeit not very original. Sillage and longevity moderate. It reminds "Diane" and it's the same nose but the ingredients seem better.easy to wear, Nice!!

This is very well made fragrance. You can smell the quality of five absolutes. Not very sweet, silage and longevity is only moderate on me. One of very few scents that I can bath in, it fits me perfectly.

Up top I get a salty grapefruit that seems like it belongs to one of JC Ellena's Hermes scents....The heart is a very non-Hermes-like crumbly sweet orris.... And the heart ends fairly quickly in a light powdery thing (mimosa is plausible, but a very airy version), with a hint, once again, of that salty grapefruit. Maybe my salty grapefruit is their ambrette...? Nice, but a bit brief.

Wild flowers and rose, in a gorgeous high fashion editorial. Sweet powdery mimosa at the opening, roses from top to bottom, and ending with a breath of organic green musk. Lasts minutes on skin and hours on clothes. I really like it, but it might be too posh for me.

The opening is hard to describe it's fruity with metallic nuances. I'm not crazy about the bottle design it's homely in it's appearance i think what's making that metallic smell is probably the Amberette seedlings and the Mimosa notes is making it metallic those two just dominate the other notes you barely smell the rose and iris in it these are one of those perfumes that are hard the review.

Upon reading the reviews below I decided to purchase a bottle, confident that I would like - if not adore - this fragrance. When the postman rang the doorbell, I ran to open the door in excitement. But. From 6 feet away - I have a gate at that distance from the main entrance door - I could smell the perfume. I knew immediately that the bottle inside the package he was delivering got broken in transport. I could even see the stains caused by the liquid which had soacked it through. It was then that my realisation had me happy of what had happened. SOAP. A sharp, distinctive scent reminding of those mini soap bars given in luxury hotel in the 80s - for anyone who is old enough to have been a traveller at that time. I then received the package and went outside in the backyard - yes, this scent was so strong that I had to open the box away from any room. Its intensity was suffocating - this is a clingy fragrance, really heavy so beware! Sadly, it smells like liquid soap - beastly strong, so absolutely not office safe. I cannot detect anything else, just a soapish note, and cannot understand where from people in the below reviews could find iris, or mimosa - much, much warmer than this coldish concoction - or even grapefruit (... really?!) There's not a single hint of them which one could recognise, so either some around here are used to random cacophonies of notes, or they are completely anosmic. And I don't care if my review gets voted down, as I am being honest, to help others out there. Galbanum is the only note which can be perceived, overbearingly so. Thus, though I can agree about the quality of ingredients, I cannot agree with anything which has been said before. This, ladies, smells of soap, plain and main. Forget the notes you can see listed here, and buy a tester if you can, to avoid huge disappointment. Big no from me.

I love love Azzaro for Men... Chrome is amazing, I thought I would like the female versions of his perfumes. I got to say this smells like a rancid old lady. Very bad scent. I couldn't take it and had to return it. I was so disappointed it was nothing like the note it's supposed to have. And nothing like sophisticated, instead smells cheap but super strong.

A further advance on Chandler Burr's complimentary review on the new Couture would be redundant and a little arrogant, it really hits the mark. Yes, I often bemoan the dearth of elegant perfume releases in a plethora of saccharine concoctions. Saccharine is artificial sugar, a chemical aping of cane sugar just as the sweet monstrosities of the perfume world dull and dumb us down with the olfactory equivalent of high blood sugar. When I heard that Prada had produced 'Candy' there was a sharp intake of breath and a very long measured sigh. Small voices say 'Learn to accept the things you can't change and be grateful for small mercies,' then came Nicky Minage. Candy, all is forgiven. I had never heard of Couture, not even the older version but the new one caught my eye at a ridiculous price on a daily special. Mentally I was rockin' Austin Powers as I spied the bottle. I really liked it, in the way I liked Thunderbirds (FAB) and the suspended polycarbonate white sound shell chair of the sixties. I found a few references, Chandler's being one of them and gave it a go. I'm so pleased I did. I can believe that this perfume contains four absolutes, which is to say, I want to believe it because I like it, If you took to 'Enjoy, Bill Blass (new) Fleur de Cristal, Flora Nymphaea, First, Y (YSL) Belle en Rykiel etc then that's the general direction but they're not as good. Obviously regulations have taken their toll on these and Couture has been built from the ground up. It's a happy spring scent. a feminine scent (sorry guys, I can't see it on a man) It's compote sweet, not jammy sweet.(compote only has enough sugar to keep for a few days) and there is a sort of guava or feijoa blossom tang. The bottle has tiny crystals on the top, Austin Powers' fembots are grooving the scene. "Hey DaddyO, do I make you smell nice, baby? Oh Austin, behave....and retrieve my bottle of Couture from the fembots, I'm sure there's state secrets embedded in those little Swarovski crystals. Yes, I can see Liz Hurley as Vanessa wearing this, a top model with a comedic side, classy but fun.

This is an interesting floral/fruity chypre. It is largely linear, not a common trait for a chypre, and while it is sweet, the sweetness lies in the floral notes and not the fruity notes. The rose is candied, but the fruit note, somewhere between melon and pear, is tart and sharp. There are many notes listed (rose, bergamot, mimosa, ambrette seed, galbanum, patchouli.) Somehow they create a nose-gestalt that reads as a light chypre, a floral/fruity and a spicy musk. The spiciness reads as a nicely placed pepper note reminiscent of the one in Caron’s Parfum Sacré. It lines up beautifully with the rose and the fruit. It cuts the rose’s sweetness, gives the fruit its green edge and lasts from start to finish. The linearity tells me that Azzaro Couture might not so much be an ‘actual’ chypre (ie. with oakmoss) as an implied or suggested chypre. Bergamot and the pepperiness give a hint of that rough bitterness that I associate with chypre. The great thing about linearity here is that it stops the clock at an accord that reminds me of the heartnotes of Diorella---almost turned fruit balanced with a dark raspiness. AC doesn’t have great projection and it lasts better on the strip than on my skin. Although linear for the most part, AC’s constituent elements (flower, fruit, musky spice) remain distinct, and even into the drydown there is no blurring of the lines.

I have a miniature of the vintage version, I would be curious if someone has or had both versions to do a comparison. I can't feel any rose, nor amberette. On my skin this is a soapy cypre. I don't dislike it, but I can't say I really like it either.

I love this stuff! Bright green fruity flowery & performs decently when I squirt on like twenty squirts! 😹😹😹 I think it's an exaggeration to characterize any of this as particular notes, and is an abstract composition of aromachemicals.
